Is that why in the second Broly movie Goten asks what a Kakkrot is and thinks it's a vegetable.

First of all it's spelled Katkaroth but it's pronounced Kakarot. It's is Goku's birth name you can kinda call it his maiden name. Kakarot is japaneese for carrot but that's not his name and if you watch Bardock the Father of Goku Master Roshi is the one who finds him at the end of the movie. And yes that's exactly why goten asks what a karot is.

I've never seen it written as Katkaroth. The only two ways I've seen it done are Kakarotto and Kakarot. And I've never seen all of the Bardock movie, but if it has Master Roshi finding Goku then I'm sure that it's non-canon. Are you sure it was Roshi and not Grandpa Gohan, who looks alot like Roshi in his Jackie Chun disguise, that found Goku?

What about Nappa and Turles?

Let me break it down.

Kakarrot/Kakarotto - KAROTTO - Carrot
Vegeta/Bejiita - VEGETABURU -Vegetable
Radditz/Raditsu - RADISHI - Radish
Nappa/Nappa - NAPA - Napa (Chinese cabbage)
Tullece ("Turles")/Taresu - RETASU - Lettuce
Brolli/Burorii - BUROKORII - Broccoli
Paragus/Paragasu - ASUPARAGASU - Asparagus
Bardock/Baadakku - BAADAKKU - Burdock (a root vegetable)

And I don't know the dub names for Bardock's crewmates I just remember they ruined them HORRIBLY and got rid of the entire vegetable name scheme, but,

Panbukin/Panbukin - PANPUKIN - Pumpkin
Tohma/Tohma - TOMATO - Tomato
Selypa/Seriipa - PASERII - Parsley
Totepo/Totepo - POTEETO - Potato

And if anyone has seen Toriyama-Sensei's self-parody Manga Neko Majin Z,

Onio/Onio - ONION - Onion

The three Saiyajin in my DBZ sequel fic, Dragonball IGNO, follow the vegetable pun as well -

Kanba (or "Cumba") = cucumber
Nizuki (or "Nizucchi") = zucchini
N'yan = onion

Get it?

Basically you take the Japanese format for the actual word in English (Carrot - KAROTTO) and then ******** with it somehow to produce a random pun, either by inserting a letter, adding gratorical marks to a letter (a process in Japanese that allows syllable change; ex, Panbukin is PANPUKIN/Pumpkin because if you take the Japanese letter 'fu' and add two little lines to it, it becomes 'bu', but if you add a tiny circle to it, it becomes 'pu'), or rearrange the letters (TA-RE-SU - RE-TA-SU - RETASU - Lettuce), etc, it creates a pun. Every single Saiyajin's name is a pun on a vegetable. All names throughout DBZ follow various pun formats (Bulma's family = undergarments, Freeza's henchmen = fruits, Ginyu Force = dairy products, Buu Saga villains = Cinderella words (Bibidi, Babidi, Buu) etc).

That's another thing that I always hated about GT, in that Bebi was meant to be a Tsufurujin ("Tuffle") but he A) looked nothing like the Tsufurujin that were shown in the flashback in DBZ and B) his name should logically be a pun on a fruit (Saiya - Yasai (meaning vegetable in Japanese), Tsufuru - FURUTSU (fruits in katakana)) but it's not. -_-

Hope that helps.

I have no intention of offending, but how can anyone be a Dragonball Z fan and not know that Kakarot is Goku's birth name? I mean, Goku's the main character and Vegeta is constantly calling him that. He NEVER calls him Goku because it's not his real name; it was the name Grandfather Gohan gave to him when Goku was found as a baby.
