Alrighty! I think that mpst people here know how to rp decently, but I figured I ought to make this thread as a reminder. Here we go!

These are suggestions and such to improve your roleplaying "skills"

First No one liners, they become annoying, and if used too often it makes people think you lack any sort of literary skill.

Second Try to make your posts as clear as possible. For example:

i walk through the store i find some books and walk to the clerk hello i would like to buy these okay here is the price okay here is the money for the price i take my books and leave the store

Now you can understand what their saying, but it wasn't any fun to read, and made only enough sence so you could get the basics. A better way of saying this would be...

I walk through a bookstore. I hand them to the clerk.
"Hello, I would like to buy these."
"Okay., heres the price."
"Ok heres the money."
"Thank you, heres your books and change."
"Thank you"
I carry my books out of the store.

Still could be snazzyer, but it works.

Third Person Is a definate better way to portray what you want to get across, for example:

Del walked into the bookstore, the soft airconditioning hit her face and made her sigh with relif. She picked up a few books and wne to the clerk to pay for them.

"together they cost $20.54" Del winced at the cost and yanked her wallet from her jeans and payed.
"Thanks, have a nice day.."
"Yeah you too." Del called back, smiling as she walked back out into the sweltering heat.

See? Snazzy ^^. Anyhow, thats basicly all you need to worry about, if you want to add extra detail then feel free to do so, it is your choice after all.

Characters

In this post we'll discuss designing charatcers and how to keep them balanced so godmodding is avoidable. Nobody likes godmodding, it makes lots of people mad. Don't do it.

First chose the base of your Character
~What kind of weapon do they use? Do they use a weapon?
~What power/element/ability do they excel in?
~Who are they bad with?
~What are their weaknesses?
~What are their strengths?

Second Description
~Height
~Hair-Length, color, Style
~Eye -color
~Skins tone
~Age
~Anything extra

Third History
~Whats happened to them
~Why are they here
~How they got here

Thats pretty much it. More may be added later. Check back here often enough.

Here's what I use in my guild so when this refers to me getting mad, that's usually because I have to correct everyones spelling... crying :

Important note: I was the mod and cheif spelling editor in the guild so yeah, if you know that then this mostly makes sence.

Welcome to Posting Etiquite 101: whee

1. When you have finished typing out your post, make sure you use that preview command, it may take slightly longer, but it will help to ensure that your post makes sense to you and to others.

2. Make sure your characters name is in bold and/or underlined and is the first word of your post, if your post is SPECIFICALLY connected to someone elses, then quote the relevent part of it, the whole quote is un-necessary and takes up space so just use what you're refering to. Also, use a seperate color of font for your character like Red or Blue I myself now use a type of blue that isn't on the list so my character stands out and is recognised. If you do this however don't use a bright or stupid color like white or yellow... I'll slap you if you do. As a rule of thumb: If you use an unreadable color once, refrain from using it again... otherwise your posts will be deleted.

3. Check your spelling! For the love of god, check your spelling! I hate having to read a sentence 2+ times because some words are broken or mis-spelled. Please look for this especially in your posts. Broken words or words that hang into another like: {an dthe car fle waway into the ocean o ffish} are often the weirdest problems I have found and also piss me off the most, this also makes we want to delete the post entirely...

4. Grammatical errors pop up everywhere, this isn't totally bad but can sometimes throw off your post as to what it really means. Now I assume that everyone here has at least a 12 year olds ability at typing and english. Unless you have english as a second language then you should be able to type well.

5. As always correct or near correct use of punctuation can easily make your post look better and stand out, helping it make more sence. Also don't worry about being to fancy, Saiya useing Bold lettering to insinuate speach instead of " " is totally acceptable, when a character thinks, use italics and try to leave spaces between thoughts and talking just to make sure that we all know thats what it is ok.
That one little white space between comments is always good.

As always just try to follow these simple guidelines and you will get flamed less by me, also if you do this, it will make our jobs SOOO much easier.

Did I also mention there's a reward? whee

Example of a small post:

UltaMatt:

In a remote forest of Middle Earth, a strange vortex opens and a dark robed figure steps out along with a mighty black dragon. Red glowing eyes emit from an otherwise hidden face concealed by a black hood and long black robes.

"So this is Middle Earth... It looks like the over cheery utopia that they told me..."

What could have summoned me here this time...
