I was just curious as to what sort of books that you folks read and what you liked about them. Feel free to post away and we'll discuss the trends that become obvious as we move along in this discussion.

These aren't in any particular order, but here's what I've enjoyed and come to mind easily.
1. Hitchhiker's Guide (Whole series)(Before the movie) 2. Dune (Read original Dune Chronicles and working on prequels) 3. LOTR (After seeing the first movie) 4. Area 51 (Only read one so far but really enjoyed it) 5. Prey 6. Timeline (Got a bit bored with it) 7. Martian Chronicles
That's all I can think of right now.

Uhh... I finished all of Tamora Pierce's books... The best satire ever: The Stupidest Angel - Santa gets killed by a shovel, and his murder is witnessed by a little kid... I also liked The Da Vinci Code ^.^ It's good writing, despite the controversial "facts" Um... I read a lot of Robin McKinley's stuff, along with Patricia McKillip's stuff (they're right next to each other at the library xd )

Brian Jacques' Redwall series got me at a young age; fantasy is my preference.
The War of The Flowers by Tad Williams is tres interesting to me. Takes a little while to get into it, a couple chapters. Once you're in the Faerie world though, boom. That's it, you'll love it.
And to name an old children's series classic that I could never live without: Hank The Cowdog. It was the best EVER! mrgreen

Remembered a couple more. sweatdrop
Oryx And Crake was most definitely one of the WEIRDEST books I've ever read. Yet, it makes you think about life...sort of. If you're one of those types that likes to read books-that-have-some-elusive-moral-that-you-can't-grasp-even-after-you-reread-the-damn-thing, then have at it!
Also, the original Tarzan of the Apes and Return of Tarzan (#1, #2) by Edgar Rice Burroughs is great. Or are great. *wonders* xd They're good. In a leisurely descriptive kind of way.

The Da Vinci Code was the best mystery/suspense book I've ever read. Most mystery books don't have good character development and the storyline pretty much follows the same pattern: 1. lala... everyday normal life 2. OH NO!! eek something bad happens, usually a murder. 3. Hints! 4. Suspect! 5. Wrong suspect! 6. Lawbreaker is cornered and confesses, usually some OBSCURE character that the reader knows almost zero information about. 7. Everyone rejoices. WOOHOO!! What a horrible book!! So glad it's done... ...
