Just in case there are people who are not really informed on how The Clash began or who they really are, here is a mini-biography of this wonderful and amazing band. Obviously this information didn't come from the top of my head, it was all taken from the booklet on Super Black Market Clash.
On May 31, 1976 Joe Strummer joined Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Keith Levine and Terry Chimes to form a band known as The Clash. They played their first show on July 4 along with the Sex Pistols in Sheffield, England. They made their official lived debut at their Camden Town base "Rehearsal Rehearsal" on August 13, 1976. By April of 1977, the band consisted of just Joe Stummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and the drummer that replaced Terry Chimes, Topper Headon. On March 18, 1977 The Clash released a first record, a single, in the UK but it wasn't until November 1978 that "Give em enough rope", their second album, became a US debut. Between March 1977 and June 1982, The Clash released over eighteen 7" singles, five albums including a double and triple, four 12" singles and two 7" EPs. The music of The Clash is a mixture of Rock & Roll with reggae, dub, and rockabilly. They copped heavily from the classic outlaw imagery, postioning themselves as rebels with a cause.
That is just some of the very basic info a good Clash fan should now. 3nodding

Well...if you really wanna get deep into The Clash facts...check out "Passion Is A Fashion" by Pat Gilbert. I highly recommend it. The best book there is on any bio of a band. It even tells about the time Paul went to jail for shotting at Pidgeons and...everything from the early days of Woody Mellor. It's awesome. mrgreen
