So post away your recommendations and I'll put them in this thread. biggrin

Just For Fun Movies
Dame tu cuerpo -- a funny mexican love-comedy movie about a man who is about to get married, but his best friend and his wife can't take each other, so one night on a party he makes a wish that they could understand one another and this wish becomes true by them changing bodies, and the movies goes on from there with a lot of hilarious situations. Guaranteed to be 100% fun.

Shallow Grave -- a comedy/horror flick about three flat mates, looking for a fourth person to split the rent with on their place. But the person they choose ends up causing an enormous amount of trouble and discomfort when the three flat mates find him dead just after moving in. For people looking for a recognizable face, Ewan Mcgregor is in this movie (one of his firsts I believe).

Shaun of the Dead -- Everyone loves a good zombie movie, right? A man decides to turn his moribund life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, reconciling his relationship with his mother, and dealing with an entire community that has returned from the dead to eat the living. Read more Here.

Hot Fuzz -- Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner. On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events. Read more Here.

Tsotsi -- This is a movie from Africa. Set in present time, a young thug struggles through life in the slums. Dealing with social problems, survival, and decency this movie is one that will leave you thinking at the end.

A Scanner Darkly -- About our future and our government and how bad things are going to become, but it's almost satirical, not outright depressing.

Waking Life -- Mostly about existentialism. The animation style is the same as in A Scanner Darkly.Waking Life

The Matrix -- Using an action and a comic book feel, this movie explores fate, reality and knowledge.

Derrida -- Here's a clip from the documentary of the father of Deconstruction talking about love and being:

Svankmajer's Faust is a nondescript man who, after being lured by a strange map into a sinister puppet theatre, finds himself immersed in an indescribably weird version of the play, blending live actors, clay model animation and giant puppets.

What The Bleep Do We Know!?!? -- "WHAT THE #$*! DO WE KNOW?!" is a radical departure from convention. It demands a freedom of view and greatness of thought so far unknown, indeed, not even dreamed of since Copernicus. Read more Here. (Assuming that's the right movie?)

I will recommend "Dame tu cuerpo"(give me your body perhaps), it's a funny mexican love-comedy movie about a man who is about to get married, but his best friend and his wife can't take each other, so one night on a party he makes a wish that they could understand one another and this wish becomes true by them changing bodies, and the movies goes on from there with a lot of hilarious situations. Have you guys seen 'A Scanner Darkly' or 'Waking Life'? Both are pretty good movies that offer plenty to talk about after you've seen it with friends. A Scanner Darkly being more about our future and our government and how bad things are going to become, but it's almost satirical, not outright depressing.

Waking Life... i can't say i know how to describe it very well, it's mostly about existentialism. Either way, the animation style is the same as in Scanner Darkly. I recommend both of them if you don't have anything better to do, and of course, if possible just download them or check them out online to see if it's really your cup of tea first razz

i'm not sure where you live, but around here, you can pick it up in just about any large music and video store for about 10 dollars, american. rather inexpensive since it's not a movie that sells very often or appeals to everyone.

as an added note, i found a link for it on amazon.com so you can check it out and read the description and reviews that are on there. they do a much better job of explaining the movie than i did. >.<

I'd like to recommend these movies:

Waking Life -- I agree with you folks and think it's a good film.

The Matrix -- Using an action and a comic book feel, this movie explores fate, reality and knowledge.

Derrida -- Here's a clip from the documentary of the father of Deconstruction talking about love and being: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMR52v_Kq9Q

First post outside the introduction, I thought I'd throw in my hat here:

K-PAX is a must-watch, as is American Beauty and Fight Club.

Pay It Forward is excellent too...

Yeah, I do like Kevin Spacey. Great actor, and alot of things he's in are really great think-movies.

The Almighty Bobbu
K-PAX is a must-watch, as is American Beauty and Fight Club.

I liked all of those movies, and American Beauty and Fight Club are my #1 and #2 favorite movies, respectively.

I would also add Dark City, Ghost World, and Faust.

Faust is a little-known art film by Czech director Jan Svankmeyer. Svankmeyer has a totally unique way of combining live action and stop-motion animation to create really creepy, disturbing visions. His work is all very allegorical. Faust is the story of Dr. Faust, who sells his soul to Satan. The movie has so many levels of interpretation, it's really subtle, and a feast for people who like to study things deeply. Another great movie by Svankmeyer is his retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It's called Alice.

Commenting on both Faust and What the bleep do you know. Both are excellent movies that I couldn't recomend more. I really enjoyed the depth and creativiy behind Faust. I've read the original writings in german and english and this is the best screen/stage adaptation I have ever seen.

What the Bleep do You Know was really hard to follow the first watch through cause it has so many ideas in it that I had to rewatch it several time to process everything. It moved from my netflix list to my owned list so I can fully appriciate it.

I'd like to add "Donnie Darko" as well.

It's kind of hard to explain what it's about.. I'd just say time travel, but you'd have really watch to the movie to understand.

Everyone I've talked to who has seen the movie has said they had the same experiance as me: After watching it we went and sat in a quiet place in a daze for 20 minutes trying to figure out what it was we just saw. It's one of those where you know you've just witnessed something important, but you can't really pin it down.
