Know any good German books? Talk about 'em here!
Note: It can be translated or not, as many of us here (most, innit?) don't speak fluent German.

i bought a book yesterday at the flea market called 'Die Frau nach der man sich sehnt'...the font is very scrolly and kind of hard to read, and besides that fact that it's in German doesn't make it any easier either, but i decided 'what the heck, it'll improve my German reading skills!'

That's awesome! I have to admit, I'm pretty bad for that too... buying books I can't fully read yet. Is it that very German font? Ach, I can't believe I can't remember what it's called!
That reminds me! I was volunteering one day at a thrift shop, and they'd gotten in a donation of a buncha German books! They wanted someone to go through them to make sure there wasn't any propaganda (exact words, I swear it), so I got to spend two hours flipping through. No, I'm not fluent, but I was able to pick out a bunch of communist stuff in a few of them. Methinks they were expecting something from the opposite end of the political spectrum, though. rolleyes

Well, I know of one poem that we've all probably at least heard a version of; it's called Der Erlönig, and it's by Goethe.
Most here'll know this already, but I'm gonna go into it bit more anyhow for those who haven't. I'm assuming you've all heard Dalai Lama? It's based off this poem.
+Linkie+
The poem is a little down the page. I've heard it done by two other groups: Kash and Dracul. Both versions are awesome, but I absolutely adore Kash's. x3
So, discuss!

The only German language book I have right now is Flug 2039, the translation of Chuck Palahniuk's English language book Survivor.

@ Count_Milly: WOW! that's awesome, even if you're not fluent! you can learn and then read it! and even just to have it is great!
as for german literature i like, i really do love Grimm's Fairy Tales. they are very different from the Disney adaptations that i personally am used to, much darker. i've only read them translated, i'm sure they're even better untranslated.
i loooove Bambi, the novel, by Felix Salten. the english is a little funny and i feel like some of it is lost in translation, but it is a WONDERFUL read for ALL ages. it's much darker and more impersonal than the Disney adaptation (none of that twitterpated s**t lmao), but it resounds like nothing else. i devoured it in a day and cried at the end. i highly recommend it.
and i heard that The Neverending Story was originally a german storybook! haven't gotten my hands on that one yet, but i'm sure it's wicked. i love the movie.
as you can see, i have a thing for children's literature / films. sweatdrop
