I've been wondering: should we have specified strengths and weaknesses for each element? I've developed a list, and I'd like some feedback on a) why we should have it at all, and b) if so, should some changes be made to the list?
Please, don't make changes to the actual list, but offer any suggestions and we'll (as a whole) discuss it.
Anyway, here's the setup:
Element
Strong against: (Here is the list of elements whos' attacks are weakened by attacking this element.)
Weak against: (And here's the list of attacks that cause more damage when they hit this element)
Fire
Strong against: Ice, Forest, (Swamp?)
Weak against: Water, Earth (People do use dirt to put small fires out)
Water
Strong: Fire, Volcano. (Light? It refracts it and such.)
Weak: Thunder, Forest, (Ice?)
Forest
Strong: Earth, Water, (Wind?)
Weak: Fire, Volcano
Earth
Strong: Wind, Thunder, (Volcano? Volcanos do make islands, so maybe it should be the other way around.)
Weak: Water, Ice
Wind
Strong: (Water? Wind influences waves and such,) (Phantom? I can't think of anything, and since wind is calming, and Phantom is supposed to be conflict, I thought, "Maybe...",) Earth (Since it can just pass over it.)
Weak: Fire(Since wind is really just heat rising, it could influence the wind,) Ice(Same as fire,) Volcano (same as the last two.)
Thunder
Strong: Water, Ice, Swamp(Nothing is really strong against swamp, so I thought I could fit this in, and since swamps have a lot of water...)
Weak: Earth, Volcano(Heated earth,) (Dark? Since Thunder (well, lightning) makes light, so there.)
Dark
Strong: ...OK, you guys are going to help me with this one.
Weak: Um... Phantom is all I can think of.
Light
Strong: Earth, Wind (Since Light is sort of ethereal, physical attacks SHOULD do close to nothing, besides disturbing it some.)
Weak: Phantom (again, I can't think of anything.)
Phantom
OK, I DEFINATLY need help with this one. Moving on...
Volcano
Strong: Earth(Since it'd melt it and take it into itself,) Wind (what could wind possibly do to slow moving magma,)
Weak: Water,
Ice
Strong: Water (It'd just freeze it,) Forest (Too cold for plants to live.)
Weak: Fire, Thunder (Just bear with me.)
Swamp
This is another one I need help with.

water is not strong against light or weak against ice for ice is water. also...i believe earth in the form of rock is weak to water because water erodes it away! ^_^ thanx!

and with ice, again it is not stronger then water. in same hot water melts ice. so tey are nuetral to each other. also i think ice is wak against earth because if you were to throw an ice cube and a rock at each other, the rock would blast the cude right? well thats all for tonight

Hmm... ok, lemme go over that...
Fire- You pretty much got everything there... swamp, I would presume so, since there are a lot of flammable materials in swamps... toxic gases, and such.
Water-Light? No... Oh, and you should add Earth.. 1. in pokemon it was a weakness, 2. water causes a lot of erosion. As for Ice, yes, I think it should be a weakness as well... also, Swamp.
Forest- Wind? Nah.. it should also be strong against Light.. because, you know, plants absorb light.. Also, Ice should be a weakness of plant as well.. also darkness, since plants need light to survive.
Earth- Wind? Nah.. I don't see how that'd work.. Also, you forgot to add fire. as for volcano.. I'm wishy washy about that too... Also, earth is weak against Plant, as well. and, Swamp is automatically joined in, since it is part plant.
Wind- I'm.. not quite sure what wind is truly strong against. O.o Maybe plant? wind whips and tears at it... idk... But seriously, I have no clue.. As for weaknesses, Thunder. Fire and ice wouldn't be a weakness.. they'd actually serve as a catalyst, ya know, creating deadly combos.. also with water, for the combo-thingy. As for earth, wind would just pass over.. its not a real weakness, just.. a nullifying thing. o.o
Thunder- Swamp? Nah... swamp.. thick.. icky... definately slows down electricity... Also, Thunder is strong against Wind. As for the dark/light thing, it wouldn't affect it, really.
Dark- Dark's strong against Light, and is also weak against it. Plain and simple.
Light- Light's strong against Dark, and is also weak against it. Plain and simple. xd
Phantom- Phantom... O.o I don't think it has any weaknesses, or strengths.. its a very mysterious concept...
Volcano- It would also be strong against Ice, and Plant/Swamp. As for the wind, like I said with the Earth, it would just pass over it; it'd be null and void. UNLESS the gust is strong enough. It'd be like blowing on a thick pudding. 3nodding Also, it'd be strong against Thunder, since it also has Earth in it, and Fire/Volcano masters can make a Heat Lance, which heats up things so high that electricity is actually null and void.
Ice- It would also be strong against Swamp; swamp is, for the most part, in the same boat as forest. Ice would also be weak against volcano....
Swamp- Well, as you can see from all my other comments, it'd fall mostly into the same boat as forest. All the weaknesses, strengths, and such. EXCEPT, swamp would be strong against Plant, as well.

Indeed, Gler, it does. Some interesting ideas I've seen! ^.^ I'm so glad everyone's participating. I'm not going to adjust it just yet, I want to change it once we have more ideas, especially ones we can all agree upon, so yeah.

I dunno if wind truly is strong or weak against anything, seeing as it can be hot, cold, average, and can be really strong, or super weak... and truly strong winds can Either AID a fire, or put it out, and can tear things to shreads, pick up dust and sand, and creat sand storms and such, so I dunno what it's true weakness would be... maybe water? but then again, wind and air include oxygen and carbon dyoxide, so they can pull the oxygene out... although water WOULD slow down wind attacks.... *ponders*

I personally don't like this idea, I think we should just fight with the elements, and be on a relatively equal platform. But of course, if we take a vote and the majority agrees, I won't oppose it.
For phantom, maybe you could toss a coin before each battle and it will be strong against light and weak against darkness, or vice versa, depending upon the flip. Just an idea.
Oh, and you've got that earth and wind are both strong against each other. whee

I find myself agreeing with Aquain, because although it's a neat idea, people might start arguing over whether or not people are taking the right amount of damage from the attacks. Maybe not, but I'd rather not risk it... and anyways, I like things the way they are... not that I don't like the idea.

Most people in RP's have an idea of what they'd be naturally weak against (Like if I got hit by a fireball, it'd hurt more than if you did, etc.).
Also, some people (not pointing fingers! Just saying that this could happen!) mayt tke this a little too seriously and think a fire apprentice can beat an ice master in one hit.. -_-

Hmm... What Aquian says is right. Perhaps a disclaimer would help?: "This is not a definitive statement, having a weakness to an element does NOT mean you can pwn them. It's for people without common sense/much scientific knowledge, so they can better determine what each attacks' strength may be. MASTERS ARE STILL MORE POWERFUL THAN APPRENTICES. ELEMENTS ARE ALL EQUAL. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS WHEN AN ELEMENT ATTACKS ANOTHER ELEMENT THAT IS WEAK AGAINST THE ATTACKER. Got it?"
Well, I'll revise that later.
Anyway, Sumi, you're right, most people in out roleplays know about weaknesses. This is more for the newbs and people with disputes in roleplay fights.
And, Silent, thanks for your opinion. I'll definatly take it into consideration.

HAVE YOU NOT WATCHED THE CHEESY ANIME SHOWS?!!! Well in that case light is stronger then dark.. and i do not know about wind.... If you go with the stuid pokemon thoughts then wind is sort of flying but if going with regular then i do not know...

Aha! Phantom could be both strong against Light and Dark and weak against Light and Dark. It kinda popped up in my head when I saw that.
I think that there should be less of an amount of Strengths and Weaknessess. Just so that people only rely on this for reference when the battle seems to pop up.
Oh, and Thunder rules. XP

You think about all these exceptions..Its like pokemon. Dark and fire water and thunder types. I don't even know whats strong and whats weak anymore.

Wind scatters Earth I believe.
Stick to Pokemon. XD It's all about the elemental thing. XP' Add in stuff for light and darkness but other then that, pokemon really has it covered. XD'
Don't they even have a light/dark kind of thing? Because I know they have dark pokemon...don't know about light. XP'
