I just had a huge argument in another guild about ALT.com...im assuming you all know what it is, but just in case...It is "the worlds biggest online BDSM community". The person I was arguing with, was upset when a sub PM'd him with requests on BDSM and bondage stuff, saying he wasnt into the "Power exchange rubish".... Why be on alt.com if you don't like B/D, s/m? then someone said Usoda Question: Why are you on alt.com if you aren't SEEKING for that type of people? and it killed the thread xD. Something like this ever happen to someone?

Well, one has to understand that alt.com caters to a multitude of alternate lifestyles, not simply BDSM or D/s. Have you asked this friend if there's another kink represented that he takes interest in? Also, bear in mind that BDSM and D/s are not the same thing, and it could be that what the sub was asking for was more D/s, when your friend is simply into BDSM. A lot of people think that BDSM and D/s are synonymous but that's far from true. It's actually one of my pet peeves to hear someone that calls themselves a "switch" refer to themselves as equal parts Dominant and submissive, when there is no such thing. "Switch" is a BDSM term (like Top and bottom) that refers to a person's willingness to be both the giver and receiver of BDSM-type play. There are no switches in D/s, because a person can't be both Dominant and submissive. Most people that label themselves that way are actually into BDSM, not D/s, and misunderstand the purpose of the titles. Being sadistic does not make you a Master, and being masochistic does not make you a slave. On a side note, most of the people in the guild that I've seen call themselves a switch in that fashion are young and inexperienced, to it's understandable.

I've always considered a switch to be a nilla that doesn't know who or what they are. i am slave, owned collared and happy to be so, though there are down sides to it all. and sub/slaves do have a level of dominance in them or they wouldn't be able to live thier everyday lives.

IntegralEinAN Why be on alt.com if you don't like B/D, s/m? I had a Gold membership on ALT for a couple of years. There are a lot of people there who aren't into power exchange. fioce

*frowns* There are people who truly do like Domming and being submissive and really are switches. However, I agree to some extent, because I think that a lot of people first becoming interested in the Lifestyle might tend to act switchish, mostly just to experiment. I was originally a switch. I just had to realize how much I adore being a sub. I'm not much of a Domme. At all. I haven't Dommed in months and months.

I think that's a very harsh and close minded opinion. That's like saying people who are bi-sexual are just indecisive. Switches rise above the power exchange in that they are freely able to preform both rolls, sometimes even in the same scene. It opens up the play to so many more options that could not be explored with a strict sub-dom/me relationship. In fact I've spoken to many many dom/mes who would rather have a switch over a sub because of those exact reasons, they get bored with subs eventually.
and in reply to Messenger: I think that yes, many people to originally enter the community as switches and branch off from there, however it is an unfair generalization to have been made that all switches are just on the fence. I've been a switch for years happily. Being a switch is often times an exploratory phase, which is absolutely encouraged, but not strictly that.
