Hey guys- my favorite verse is Romans 6:23,

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of god through eternal life in
Christ Jesus our LORD."

Now, I would like to now how the wages of sin is death- I mean, you could do one little sin, like all of us human beings do everyday. We all sin, but I am guessing that they meant associating with Satan, which is a sin, but then you would not have the gift of god through eternal life (going to heaven)!! Please help meh questions.

Sin seperates us from God. Separation from God is death. This is how I understand it. Yeah, it's confused me before, too. When we sin, we rebell against God. We need atonement for every sin we commit. That's why the Israelites in the OT had to sacrifice animals so much. Now, we have Jesus Christ, who was the perfect sacrifice - we don't need to spill anymore blood (read Leviticus 17... it explains why blood saves). When we accept Jesus we're saved from death (in the spiritual sense) and now have eternal life in Heaven.

Does this make sense?

a wage is something that you earn. Like if you have a job then your wage is how much money you make for doing your job. so "the wages of sin is death" means, that we all deserve death, because the bible says "for all have sinned" but its not talking about dying here on earth, the word "death" means "to be separated" so by sinning we are separated from God. But "the gift of God" means that God gave us another chance, and if we accept God's gift then we can have eternal life!

hope that helped!

It's not a difficult verse at all if you step back from analyzing it to it's roots. It has the answer to your question right there. But I'll explain it to how I have understood it:

All sins are equal, and we should be bound for Hell because of the sins that we commit, but because of God's love by sending Christ down to save us from our sins, we have eternal life and we are no longer bound for Hell.

It's just saying that without Jesus Christ--God's proof of his gracious love--we would be bound for eternal death.

biggrin God bless!

I avoid sinning because it means I'm breaking God's rules. I don't often have to understand why it's bad, just that it makes God angry or sad, and I don't do it. But even if I sin, I'm already forgiven. And because I'm loved and forgiven, I repent. And thus I'm saved.

Moses sinned by killing. Peter sinned by denying Jesus. But they didn't 'die', they received life through God's grace.

I believe that's how things are done in heaven.
