ok so you put you "action" or what your doing in little star thingys(*)and like in them you type what your doing to respond to the person who posted before you or you could just make a random action but that annoys people sometimes!any ?s

person two
{magic markers only works on magic paper dumbunny}*takes the purple matalic pen out of her pocket and goes over the name of person one*signs herself up and walks away not relizeing that when she turned the sign up sheet feel to the ground*

k guys, this is what kelseys older brother told me when i asked, i hope it helps others too... *claps for david*
Grammar and proper punctuation are a good start.
Treat it like you are writing a story, but everyone has their own little part. First off, your character that you RP with is not your avatar, they are their own character.
Don't use astericks like many people use. Just use normal text like this, or italics.
Detail in description of what your character is wearing, carrying, what it looks like, what sounds it makes, et cetera, makes your RP turn out better. Level Four, shown below, is usually considered to be a good RP, and the best tend to have level five. A non-mentioned level six is attainable, but that is just added extra thought, lengthening the post out with more detail and bigger words.
I'll try to find an example of RPing levels that one of my friends came up with:
Level One: 8I's sd shotz ju!!!!!221~! Naws ju r died!.Fjjskaf HAR AHR!fn*
Level Two: *I shot you, and you died. I WINZ!*
Level Three: *I jumped, and shot at the people shooting at me, wanting to kill them.*
Level Four: Leon jumped the container, as he fired off three rounds at the advancing armored gunmen.
Level Five: ...continuing to take cover, Leon took his Walther P99, lightly shinning in the light, as he attempted to take aim in the hail of fire, and pressured the triger. The weapon released two rounds at the trio of gunmen, as he attempted to make clean fatal shots, but had little time to take aim...

(()), [] or {} means that your talking as yourself, not your rp character. Otherwise, you just use normal text.
The asterick thing seems right, but only when you have to.
I've rp'd quite a bit in my younger days. I prefer not to now.
Example:
Elizabeth walked quickly to the tall, intimidating door. She took a shaky breathe to relax her nerves and opened it with a shaky hand.
Actually, now that I think about it, there's no need to use astericks.

It is truly much easier if you role play like you are writing a story. When there are asterisks or parenthesis, it makes it look unprofessional, and difficult to decipher.
Here are some simple guidelines-
-When posting, attempt to use multiple sentences. One liners do not help a plot carry on.
- It is helpful to have a colour that you role play in, so it is easier for people to know where you are posting.
Quote: A quick example of a good role play style-
The woman surveyed the ring of stones jutting up from the craggy ground.
“Tsenta, do you have any idea where we are?” She whispered to her companion, yet her voice seemed to echo off of the stones and amplify. She sucked in her breath and placed a hand over the towering stones. They seemed to suck in her warmth, and she pulled away quickly, suddenly afraid.

With your early role plays don't be over creative, keep the story line to a minimum, set the time period and setting of the story and let the Role Players take it from there.
Ex:
Time: Dark ages
Setting: Centeral England.
You'll find that more people will know what their character will be if you tell them those two things.
You might even set a few important roles that you will want people to fill later, such as a monarch, hero or villan.

Eh this is how i learned from my sister who has done many rps
When you are trying to speak as yourself not your character you would do this : ((Hey i have to go, ill be back later))
You could also use [[]]
When you are talking as your character and carrying out actions as your character you would do this : She walked down the hallways of the abandoned hospital with her friend and quietly whispered "This is kinda scary..."
Thats it i think.
