Yes, that's right, I JUST ORDERED THE GOSPEL OF JUDAS FROM THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STORE!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT GETS HERE!!! OMG!!! I'm going to squeal like a little kid at Christmas (er... wait... sweatdrop ) when it gets here!!!!! And I post it here because this is probably the only guild on Gaia that would even give a damn about the Bible or the Gospel of Judas. http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/product/783/3051/114.htmlSo, the Bible. What do you think of it? Want to hunt down every last person responsible for nix-ing so many gospels that must have been full of interesting information about the time period?

I think of the Bible as a great inspiring document of history. I don't take it literally, and I don't think people should; a lot of stuff has changed since back then. I also really hate when people say they're Christian/Muslim/etc. and then completely disregard the Commandments (suicide bombers, Crusaders, I'M LOOKIN' AT YOU!!).
The Gospel of Judas sounds really cool, tell me how it is. :3 And yeah! All the gospels should have stayed in, to keep it fair, you know. It's really lame how popes and such people sort of edited the Bible for their own use.

Please forgive me if this sounds at all nasty or otherwise meanspirited, that is not my intent.
I think it would be wise to do some reasearch before making a statement like that Blue.

Well, I didn't mean it exactly the way you took it, I think. But I just don't really understand how the texts seem so peaceful and then people do such violent things in the name of religion. That's all I was saying, really. sweatdrop

I think I can agree with that, however I was talking about the second part of what you had said. Not that I want to start a, (I think), pointless, theological debate.

That's pretty awesome. I find it one of the most interesting religions to study, Buddhist being the first. I love learning about all the gnostic gospels, especially all the obscure ones. I was watching on the histroy channel of one about another gospel of the apocolypse. It was saying that a man was brought into heaven, and asked Jesus why all the people are stuck in hell. He didn't believe they needed to be there. So, Jesus told him that if everyone in heaven wanted god to give salvation to the people in hell, he would. So basically it was saying that people didn't stay in hell forever. So of course it wasn't cannonised! And then there was another cannon in which the diciples asked when the kingdom would come, and Jesus said it was right in front of their faces. I love that quote.

Hate to be thick, but the Gospel of Judas is NOT a part of the Bible. It was written about 1000 years after Jesus. Its unreliable and a hand-me-down story, not firsthand. Want to know where I got my information. Read Josh McDowell's book The DiVinci Code: A Quest for Answers. Very addicting, and VERY true.

I think she knows that it isn't a part of the Bible, but it was one of the gospels that was hidden to save it from being destroyed. I have a copy of it myself, and found it so incredibly fascinating. 3nodding You won't be dissapointed.

Want to know where I got my information. Read Josh McDowell's book The DiVinci Code: A Quest for Answers. Very addicting, and VERY true. Sweety, none of the gospels we've found so far (including those in the bible) are first hand accounts. Sorry to disappoint wink There's a very good reason why the Gospel of Judas wasn't included in the canon. It's extremely gnostic. It also doesn't tell us much about Jesus or Christianity except: 1) About the Gnostic groups. 2) That early Christians were confused about Judas. He was evil, he was a betrayer, but without his betrayal, Jesus would not have died and therefore we would not have been saved. The Gospel of Judas shows that early Christians were trying to understand this problem and the role Judas played. Aaanyhoos, I have a copy as well. Mine is annotated by "Book a Month" scholar Bart Ehrman.
