Mk so, Ive seen on Miami Ink, that tattoo artists do indeed tattoo over scars, and sometimes around, but what if the area is riddled with scars? Will they still tattoo it? Or not?

I asked my tattoo artist this same question the last time I was in, and I'll relate to the best of my memory what I was told...
Though it is possible to tattoo over scars, unless the scar is more than a year old, it will be difficult for it to hold the ink and may have a less-than-vibrant appearance or even bleed the colour out completely. Hard or deep scar tissue, like burns or old cuts, is easier to tattoo than soft scar tissue, like stretch marks. If you're going to be tattooing over a scar, your best bet is to wait until it has changed from the reddish or purple phase to the pale or white phase, which is an indication that it is fully healed internally as well as externally. Interesting fact about tattooing scars... the actual scar will have little or no nerve feeling, but nerves regrow in bunches around the scar, so it might feel very odd to tattoo over one.
I have a fair number of old (3-4 years ago) scars on my biceps and ankles, and my tattoo artist said that it would be perfectly feasible to do a coverup if I so desired. I'm latticed with them, to tell the truth. I also have a large scar on my upper thigh, about the width of my pinky, and as long as my thumb... and he said that it would also be possible to tattoo over that as well. I thought that I would NEVER be able to cover that one.
Personally, I would ask your tattoo artist. My artist, Ron McManus of Abstract Art Tattoo, has several decades of experience and does an absolutely fabulous job, but a less-experienced tattoo artist might have qualms about doing it. I was also told by a "professional" prior to asking Ron that scars would never take ink, so you may want to ask around. 3nodding

Very nice Mesic! Thank you very much!
Side note: I saw on maimi ink that Omi wouldn't tattoo a keloid scar (which is a differen't type of scar) and tattooed around it. I'm not a fan of Omi's work though.

He shows a lack of security in his work and he handles the clients poorly, always changing what they want. His touch looked really unsteady too, but that's hard to judge on the tv. Chris though, he's got real skill, real talent.

It all depends on your artist. Myself personally, I wouldn't have a problem going over scars. I thik the biggest worry about tattooing over scars is the fact that it Hurts alot more than with regular skin, but the ink should sink in and set just the same.
Oh and... Miami Ink sucks... Royally

Ok. Like I've said before. Miami Ink isn't the best show and it shows alot of drama. Why? Because thats what makes for good ratings.
You can't argue though that they do give alot of good advice. Talk to your artist. Make sure the design is what you want. (It cost alot more to have one taken off then put on.) Make sure the shop is clean and well lit.
True that whole crew can be stupid. But I'm pretty sure they aren't showing all that tats they do or how they are all the time. They just edit it to show the times when everyone is yelling or being stupid or tattooing friends.
They use the drama and barbie doll girls to sell the show but at least they aren't showing a bunch of idiots who don't have a clue what they are doing and who actually give valid advice about getting ink.

I watch Miami ink every week XD And Garver has been able to successfully tattoo over bad scarring. Just make sure the tissue is white or clear, meaning it's healed. Pink and puckered tissue won;t ink well at all. You have to have a pretty damn good artist to do it though, so shop around and look at portfolio's and speak to all of the tat artists in your area. ALL OF THEM. I made the mistake of gong to three out of the six places in the area and pciking someone mediocre when I could have gone to a shop down the street and gotten an amazing artist for a lower price. When my tat heals, I'll be going to them for a fix-up. And this is especially important if you want an aesthetically pleasing scar cover-up.
