So...how do you choose your characters' names and what is the backround of those names?

Priestist: I had already named his father Priestist, so I decided that it was a good name for him. After a while it evolved into a long line of Priestist', ending with the sixteenth here. His name means "Noble Warrior". Priestist XVI is the first one to live up to his name. xp

Cinel: The culture he comes from, often referred to as the Zemereens, does not name their children until they are twelve of a age. By the time he was named, he was the simplist, and moost holy person on the islands. So, I had to make the name simple, and Cinel was pretty simple and, as an extra, it ended in "el" which means "like God".

I first got Hermonie from Harry Potter and made her an English girl who hated to break rules, but broke them anyways. Then I started watching Yuu Yuu Hakusho and made her a Japanese street punk like Yuusuke as well as a reikaitantei. Then I found out about all the Japanese sounds and changed her name to herumouni. I even have kanji for it in my sig. So her whole name is urameshi herumouni. blaugh (But you already knew that, Dude. lol)

I have a book of Baby Names. I usually just choose whatever sounds good out of those. But a few more interesting name choices:

Vienna Ebling: I had just visited Vienna, found it in my baby name book, and I figured it made pretty decent name. Then I randomly thought of a kid who went to my school and stole his last name. XP

Cyril Shepard: My mom's sister had a cat named Cyril. XD

Mirelle White: This character is tough and bossy, so I decided to give her a somewhat feminine sounding name. I had a lot of choices, but I figured Mirelle was the best. Then I stole the last name from a good friend of mine.

I use a website, though several of my names I stole off of stuff I randomly saw... like my friens names. First names, though. I don't normally use last names.

Red, Black, Gray, and Green - Basic colors. They're code-names for a group of assasins in one of my rather far-fetched books, though I've used them in several other places.

Atarii - A video game system. I added another 'i' for copyright purposes, incase I was ever to get books published.

Ariana Jere - The first name is my other friends friends name. It's confusing, isn't it? Ha. The last name, well, I was just messing around with some words and came up with it.

Robyn Yumi Jere - The last one I'm posting. Yumi is obviously a japanese type thing, Jere is from the last one, and Robyn is a feminine, varient form of the name Robin.

I have not a clue where my names come from; I'll come up with them randomly, then edit them to fit the character. I usually end up chaning them until I get one that really sticks.

Faye - Just reminded me of flowers or something xd She's really happy-go-lucky and spunky, like a resilient flower pushing up through the snow. It also is like "faith" or "fate", which also relates to her character in some ways in my story, I guess.

Gyriph - No idea. Just sounded "elfy", so I kept it lol

Estrel - Perhaps from "estrella", which means star in Spanish. Mysterious, like the heavens and the universe.

Valphine - No idea, either... Also sounded like it came from a fantasy book, so I kept it.

Dryla - I hate this name; it's one that will end up changed. But, she is a dry, cold-hearted witch, so I guess that's where I got it. But I really don't like it...

eek

Indigo Stealings- Indigo is my favorite color and her father is basically the leader of a thief gang. Thus, the Stealings.

Saro Anian- Hehehe, Kingdom Heart's Sora. Switch the o and a around. And Saro sounds cool. Anian is taken from a city of Taiwan, Tainan just take the T away.

I've actually started to just put sounds together lately. Usually Japanese sounds, then I'll look up what the sounds mean. Other times it's from my own language, Teaijayazi, which you can learn in the conlangs guild that I'm in once I actually start working on it.

my character names are from either research i've done on the net of names in other languages, the names i go by on the internet, or just names that pop into my head at the last minute...lol. ^_^

Here's an idea. Set syllables to a certain number each, roll dice, and make the name according to the numbers the dice land on. For example:

1: ki (kee)

2: ti (tee)

3: o (oo)

4: ha (hah)

5: drick (drik)

6: mo

And it will be three syllables....

We have... Omodrick, Odrickmo, Mo-Odrick, Modricko, Drickomo, or Drickmo-o. All except the last one work in the language they are from. I would choose Omodrick. Just make sure the syllables can go together well.

Right now, there is Peter(no last name) and Carrol Mahooney. In the past, my favorite characters have been Jaden Sampey and Pen Christian. Yeah...no deeper meaning to those names that is obvious, only what shows up in the books.

Didn't you get it from Teen Titans? I thought you changed Slade's name a bit and put it backwords.
