~-~ Harry Potter Movie talk! ~-~This is the official thread for talking about the movies! Loved them or hated them, in here they go!
Comments on great jobs done in the movie are great, but if you want to fawn over your favourite actor/character/movies vs books/random chat, please take it to the appropriate thread!

heart I squeeled at the mascot for this thread. So Damn ADORABLE!
As for the movies, I think they cut to much out. I adored the first one, hated the third, and I'm rather netrual on the other two. I DO, however, think Dan's cry acting sounds more like an elliptical fit.

Unfortuneately, for the movies alot HAD to be cut out or else by the time they got the GoF the movie would have had to have been at least six hours long and even then there would probably be alot missing. I haven't really had a lot of problems with the editing jobs done so far. I have to say though, my least favorite movie to date is definately PoA. There was no chemistry between Gary Oldman (Sirius) and David Thewlis (Lupin). Separate they fitted the roles resonably well but together... nothing. But that's just my opinion. I'm kind of leary about how OotP is going to turn out.

I must say that even though I didn't like the 3rd movie, i've watched it at least 20 times lol. Yes, everyone would have to agree that too much is cut out of the movies.

The third movie was horrid. That SpiderMonkey that attempted to be a werewolf was the biggest dissapointment I've had in a long time. I expected them to make it UBER because it was Lupin, and lets face it, Lupin is pretty Uber. wink
Other than that, I think the Movies have been decent at giving fans a decent interpretation of the world we all love so much, as well as being a gateway for nonfans to join the fandom.

My mom really liked the 3rd one. She said it was sort of right for there to be a darker tone, a more mature theme, some angst. Harry's life is definitely far from a piece of fluff after all. She thinks the changing of directors was a good thing for the movies. She, in short, approved. Heh heh. 3nodding
As for me, well, I liked the first one! Am I odd? >>

The funny thing is that my pet peeve with the movies is the constant change of directors. Chris Columbus did a superb job with the first two movies. It's really because of him (and of course JK Rowling for the terrific books) that the movies were so popular. Alfonso Cuaran did a good job on PoA but it just didn't flow when comparing it to the first two movies. The first two were full of magic and wonder but the third seemed to downplay these two aspects. Mike Newell did a slightly better job with GoF. GoF was different enough to assert it's own personality but seemed to bring some of the magic back into the movie. Now, how will David Yates stack up with Order of the Phoenix?

I agree with you Moonfire, it's so hard to love the movies as a whole, because they're so eclectically portrayed. Every director wants to make his own 'mark' on each film, so the movies suffer from them trying to make each one different from the last. There were things I didn't like about the first 2, but at least they both looked like the same world! The 3rd looks completely different and the 4th one different again! gonk Now... the werewolf in PoA... seriously. It's atrocious >.< It's SO damn ugly. Has anyone played the Diablo 2 expansion? The druid turns into a werewolf that looks like this. Not really a good picture, but he's got a golden retriever-esque tail and when he runs he goes down onto all fours and looks a lot like a dog and less like a human. Whilst reading the book I imagined Lupin to look more like this and less like a chihuahua sweatdrop

x0kuteness0x i didnt like the 3rd movie ..actually the movies arent that gud but still i LOVED the first one heart i think it was the best hahah, the first one xd I do like it, but it always gets overshadowed by one super-lame thing... You know in the book Hagrid goes "I got him off some Greek chappie down at the pub" (or something to that effect) and it's hilarious because Cerberus (sp?) is the guardian of the Greek underworld? In the movie it is needlessly changed to an "Irish chappie" - WWHHYY?! It makes me scream in rage and go ranting on about it for the rest of the movie sweatdrop I'm so lame xd

Sometime I just don't understand filmmakers. It's not like that one little quote means much (or in this case any at all) difference to the plot so I don't know why they bothered to change it. Then again, maybe the actor just said it wrong and they didn't bother to re-shoot for the sake of one word. *side note* the next movie looks great! I can't wait to see it!!!

I think movies 1-3 are pretty good but the 4th one to me really stinks it is good movie wise if you havnt read the book but when you have the whole time your thinking of all the things the cut and changed and just wondering why they did. I think they should get a derector who is a fan of Harry Potter books. I also think they should have done extended editions for the fans like the lord of the rings did but thats just me.

Actually, my friends, who don't read the books, all found the fourth book really confusing - because it jumped so much between scenes and we had the books to fill in the blanks but they didn't. And I would DIE of happiness if they had extended versions like Lord of the Rings crying It would be soooooo good biggrin
