Interes"Burry" Intersting (Read proverbs 4:14-27)
"Mom, I'm Home!" shouted SAndie as she came in the kitchen door. Then she noticed the note mom had left. It said, "Gone to the store. Will be right back."
"Hey, SAndie!" called a voice at the back door. It was Kelly, a neighborhood girl. "Coem on out and play tag with us." "Well...,"Sandie hesitated. She knew her mother didn't like her to spend time with her because she used bad language. But her mother always told her to be friendly, didn't she? And she would be very careful not to repeat anything Kelly said. She decided to go.
The game of tag was nearby a feild of tall grass. The girls were running and screaming as they chased one anoither. When SAndie saw her mother come around the corner and pull into their driveway, she told the girls good-bye and headed home. "Hi, Mom," she said as she went into the house. "I was playing tag with some of the girls."
"Hi, honey," greeted Mother, glancing at Sandie. She gasped. "Look at you!" she exclaimed. You didn't even change out of your school clothes before goin gto play. You're going to have a terrible time pivking off thowse burrs."
SAndi elooked down. She was surrised to see tha ther pants were covered with burrs. Without a thought, Sandie swore. Quickly she put her hand over her mouth-she was sooo embarassed!
She had promised herself that she would never repeat the words she had heard some of the girls using, but they had just slipped right out. She wished the floor would swallow her up.
"I see you picked up more than a few burrs while you were playing," Mom said. "Who were you playing with,?" When she heard who Sandie's friends were, she nodded. "It's easy to pick up habits without even knowing it," she said. And bad habits, like burrs, are hard to remove."
"I see what you mean," groaned SAndie as she began pulling the sticky burrs from her jeans. "I think I better watch where i play and who i play with! D.E.M
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do your friends have bad habits?
Do they curse or smoke?
Do they gossip or tell lies?
Altough you should be kind and friendly toward everyone, don't choose as close friends those habits you know are wrong.
Don't give bad habits a chance to get "stuck" on you.
They are hard to shake!
