Dragons were already the subject of several polls, so I'll skip most of what I have and only do a couple things I found entertaining. smile

Fire-Breathing
The dragon's mysterious ability to produce bursts of flame is one of the most potent weapons in its arsenal. Dragon observers claim to have recorded emissions up to 200 m long, attaining temperatures of over 1000°C, and many people have sought to explain how this remarkable feat is achieved.

Professor Heinz Diebtrich, of the Götlingen Institute for Cryptozoology in Germany, has proposed that dragons ingest phospher-laden rocks which break down in the acidic conditions of the digestive system, possibly in a special stomach (termed the phosphorocatabolic stomach by Professor Diebtrich), to release a volatile gas, which is flammable on contact with the air. Attempts to investigate the phenomenon--and to reproduce it in the laboratory--have proved difficult, and frequently fatal.

1. Dragon uses powerful jaws to break of phosphatic rocks.
2. Stomach acids react with rocks to create inflammable gas.
3. Stomach expands as gas accumulates.
4. Expelled gas combines with oxygen in air and ignites.

i wonder whether they just spit caustic poison the way the Kimodo Dragon of the Galopagos does, and it is scary and feels like fire so it gets recorded as fire?

That's extremely interesting theory that Prof. Deibtrich has. I used to say that Dragons simply have, what I deemed anyway, a "fire stomach" which was directly linked to the dragons mouth in order to spit forth the fire that was stored there. The fire got in the stomach as a natural part of the dragons life. The stomach, get larger and more heat resistant as the dragon gets older (This would explain how young dragons were never able to hurt anyone, as they couldn't throw as much as their older counterparts)
That was just my theory though.
I also used to have a book that explained how the leathery wings of the dragon made it able to fly. I forgot most, if not all, of what it said though.

EDIT- Also, Dragons were known for hoarding treasure, which is why they were generally found in the caverns and such. I heard that dragons, without young, would rather die than share their treasure, not sure about that though. (Not sure if you knew that)

They had something about dragons on the discovery channel. There is one area where the mountains look like a sleeping dragon and that where some of legend came about. They also had something about the fire breathing part. They gave the idea of the possiblity of the dragons chewing on some kind of rock and having some kind of chemical in their stomach, therefore causing them to breath fire. I just got that from the previews xd
