It's DDR. Marionated. *NOT a pun on "marionette'd"*
Okay. You spend $70 on a big box that has Mario breakdancing under spotlights with the title of the game slapped on the top. You take it home and open it.
And squeal with joy.
Until you gouge your eyes and ears out from the horrible storyline.
Why put a storyline into a Mario DDR game?...nevermind I asked. The story is completely useless, mundane, stupid, and pointless. BUT, it's a linear way to unlock songs (aside from the EX storyline which has a few different songs plus secret ones you buy), and the idea is simple: you beat the level, you get the song. Problem is, it's not an extensive selection (I estimate twenty to around thirty, haven't played in a while) and experts and newbies both will get used to "the feel" quite quickly (though the more challenging modes aren't available at first, which is a turn-off for veterans) I won't go in-depth into the techniques and styles of DDR as I wouldn't know, but I do know this: compared to the DDRs on Xbox and PS2, this is a bit watered down. (what can you expect from the predecessor of DISNEY DDR?) One Xbox DDR I played at school had Freeze arrows (I think that's what they are, where you hold your foot on the arrow) meanwhile Mario DDR didn't. I'm guessing the other titles have more to offer then.
Song selection is...well...okay. The classic theme, called Here We Go! (I hope I remember right XD;; ) remixed is really catchy, and I mean really. There are many remixes, some better, some worse, and some odd ones such as one from a game on the Super Famicom system. Boo Boogie on Super Hard: I challenge you. >D
Did I mention there were minigames, including jumping the flagpole? Well, find those out for yourself. XD
In stores now!
Comes with one pad and a game. NOTE: Two pads or two controllers, it's all the same. They BOTH can be used in vs. mode. Dunno about mixed, though. XD
Graphics: 4/5 (It's Mario in 3D.)
Songs/Music: 3.5/5 (It's okay, but if you get bored of it that's the end.)
Gameplay: 3/5 (Straightforward, it's DDR, but playing the storyline will really piss you off at points. Gets fun at parts, but mostly you're just waiting for the next song. Free mode is great.)
