Not sure if everyone's heard it or not, but recently (two or three days ago) Pluto lost it's planetory status and was demoted to a dwarf planet. Now there's a few other dwarf planets, and I'm wondering how this whole change is going to affect astrology and the like. I mean, is Pluto going to be booted out and just stick with the 8 remaining planets, or are the other dwarf ones going to be incorporated? In my opinion at least, something's gotta give. Anyways, if you hadn't heard about it, google Pluto in the news bit. There was quite a lot going on about it when I looked the other day.

Yeah, I hear about that. It first started a few years ago. Took them this long to decide what they wanted, huh? I think that's a bit messes up. How long has Pluto been a planet? Then they change it?! And just think of how many school have to buy NEW science books now. eek
If I remember right though, at first they wanted to demote it to a moon. So a dwarf planet isn't TOO bad. It's just lableing it as a SMALL planet.

True, but imagine if you were Pluto. You'd be sitting there thinking "Yay! I'm a planet!" and then "Stuff you too! You used to think I was good enough to be a planet!". Poor Pluto..... cry

Well, I don't think astrology should be changed. Just because some scientists change the status of Pluto, doesn't change what it is, just what we call it.

Yeah, but I don't think astrologist care what we think. xp Astrologists have not cared what the astronomers thought for a very long time, actually. Anyways, onto my opinion. To me, the science community can claim whatever they wish for the status of the planets. I don't personnaly think it should change anything religious, The planet's are there as 'representations' of the gods. So, why should whether the scientists claim what status it has effect that?

In my opinion it was quite logical to change its status to Dwarf Planet. If it's was a planet, many other ice and rock objects in space, would be planets aswell. Look at Ceres! As far as I remember it's larger than Pluto, and it's not a moon, so why didn't it get a pretty label, saying: planet? D:

Ceres, Pluto, its moon, and Xena were all "planets" by the new deffinition but now they have all been downgraded to 'dwarf planets'.

If I were a Scorpio, I would have cried and cried. I love Scorpios, and the "loss" of a totem planet makes me really sad.

My astronomy teacher still considers it a regular planet, which I like. :] I mean, it rotates.. it goes around the sun like all the other regular planets.. why shouldn't it count?
