Another plot bunny has gnawed away at my brain. And I like this one better than the last. So here's it in a nutshell:

Several people have recieved a formal invitation from an eccentric friend they had lost contact with several years ago. He claims he's found an invention which could change the world. Curiousity overtakes these people, and they arrive at his mansion on the designated date to find out what he's talking about.

Turns out, he's invented a time machine. With just one catch.

It's never been tested.

But its about to be.

Next thing they know, those people find themselves sitting in the middle of the Ice Age, where cavemen exsist. However, their journey doesn't end there.

The machine's only flaw is its inability to retrieve things its sent into time. Its creator does his best to reverse the process, but only ends up sending the group through even more time periods.

However, they begin to notice something strange. There is something wrong with these time periods. for instance, the Greek gods from the myths actually exsisting. And, the most troubling of all, the fact that dragons rule the Dark Ages.

It seems this machine doesn't just deal with time.

After all, that would be too simple, right?

Anyways, if anyone is aware of this plot already being used, i would like it if you told me. I would hate to begin writing this only to find I was copying someone else unintentionally.

And, of course, comments and suggestions are loved. If you can think of anything, that is. It is a little hard to critique an idea, after all. XP

It reminds me of The Time Machine, the movie; the old one. Because the first place is about cave men, it's supposed to be a time machine, ect. =P

I like it... dragons. XD

*has never seen that movie* I probably should, though. XD Pah, maybe I'll stick 'em with the giant spiders and centipedes of the Carboniferous period. >:3 I betcha that hasn't been done before. *is going to be proved wrong*

Yes, I happen to like studying things like evolution. It interests me.

...
G-giant spiders? *Hides under blankets*

It probably has, with all those old fashioned monster movies. Example, the giant Ant. I forget the name, but I know its been done before. Anyway... Hmm. Still like it. XD

Seems okay...just make it so that it isn't random places, but every time they transport or whatever the character conflict/resolution evloves according to a degree to the surroundings. That helps a lot to make it more interesting.

Sounds like it could be cool smile Again with the characters, just try to make them seem like real people; stuff that real people would actually do. Anything too inhuman just won't work well.

And I'm not sure (if it's been done just like that). You can never be exactly like another story, anyways, but I've heard the "people stuck in time" plot before. But if you make it interesting (like the Back to the Future movies; I think they pulled it off well smile ), it could be really cool ^^

I've got a few character ideas. 3nodding Most of them seem pretty good. To me, at least. Most of them also have a field of expertise which is useful with the settings. For instance, one has a good knowledge of palentology, another is well learned in general history, and another in literature and mythology.

And then two are absolutely useless. >:3 But there's a reason for that, too.

The settings would be planned to move along the plot. Its not like I'd throw a dice to see where they'd go next. XP That's just silly.

Bah. I started writing this idea just to humor myself. I would usually outline it first...

But I'm debating on the characer personalities and such. And I also think I'm missing a character... I don't know why, but I feel like I'm one short. o__O

Currently I got six. One's a palentologist, One's a history major, that guy's girlfriend is a literature/mythology major, and one has minor experience in medicine and stuff. And then, like I said, two are useless.

I think I'm lacking a main character. >.< Or a leader at the very least.

Anywho, I'll post what I got when I actually finish a scene or something.

Sounds like a good idea.

But remember to put a lot of detail into the places the time machine takes them. It's not like people can see it for themselves, so you really have to put an explicit mental image in their brain :3

Seconded. Also, try not to be trite in explaing future and past. Make it original, and make it have flair. You want your audience to be fascinated and awestruck.
