Anybody ever run into problems with group cosplays?
Like the group being unorganized, not finishing costumes, people dropping out last minute, or just any other mishaps?

One of the disorganized things that happened to my group was when we cosplayed DBZ. We had people drop out, our piccolo lost half of his costume, Our Vegeta had the wrong color scheme (Doesn't really work with purple...), and our Krillin, Yamcha, and Bulma dropped out last second (after we had our con passes purchased).

Yeah, that happened with my Saiyuki group. We had everything ready, costumes, props, a rusted green 1986 Jeep with no roof... everything
That ended up falling through due to money issues though, and now I just found out that our Hakkai and Sanzo don't want to do it for the next con...
Kinda upset me a little, but it happens.

I've tried to do groups but it's never worked. T.T Either they don't get their costume done or I don't... and I hardly ever want to cosplay from the same series at the same time as anybody else >.< It's so hard damn it!!

rolleyes Oh sweet baby jesus, this happens pretty much every goddamn year to me.

I always cosplay with the same group. We are very small and tight-knit. The members consist of myself, my friend Segue, and his little brother Justin. (Both of whom are very much like brothers to me, as Segue and I have been aquainted for the past 9-11 years or so.)

I generally get my costume done on time, or at the very least have something made entirely out of scrap and safety pins which is completely servicable. (Actually the first year we were a group this happened, and I looked phenomenal. Yay FFII summoners!) But unfortunately for me, Segue and Justin tend to be entirely too lazy for their own good.

This year I am cosplaying a geisha, and haven't got too much time to make the costume myself (save the obi, which is half-finished, save the needle-point or painting I'm going to do to inish it off; iI haven't decided which method to use just yet.) so I am paying a very good friend of mine $70.00 to get measurements done and sew the thing tup before I go to California (I'm moving to the bay area, for those of you who didn't know.).

Nevertheless, I will have it done, and we never actually do the costume contest, so we aren't eligible for awards anyway. (We always do the cosplay skits, so I fail to feel bad about outsourcing work when I can.)

Segue is going to cosplay Gogo, he mime from FFV (he's a super-secret character that you can only get be being eaten by a sand worm thing, apparently,). It's looking pretty good for him as he already has his fabric and we have started on some of the more annoying bits of the costume already.

Jusin is another matter, howeveer, as he is flip-flopping on what he wants to cosplay. Thankfully for Segue and I, he is not going to be wearing this costume for our skit as it is going to be //different// this year.

Anyway though, yeah. I'm anticipating issues. And as always I will look spectacular, and they will look like FOOLS. rolleyes

I mean, I love them. But they drive me nuts.

LOL

What else are friends for right? xd
My Jedi group cosplay, I was the only jedi..My friend Holly had a jedi outfit, but dressed as a Senator instead...though she still had a lightsber...
and the rest of my group didn't bother dressing like they said they would.
Still was a lot of fun though.

Not for cons, but for Renne-Faires... I always have about a week to make costumes. My sister is the pickiest person ever.

This one time I made her dress and when we were buying fabric, it was like half a yard short of what we needed, but she really wanted that fabric. So I told her that that would mean that the dress would be on the short side. She insisted on having that fabric... and then flipped out when the dress was 3" shorter than she expected. Uuuuuugh.

Also, she changes her hair all the time on impulse, so it's impossible to come up with costumes for her for cons. Because I'm not paying for a wig for her, she won't go unless her hair is accurate, she doesn't like wigs, et cetera. It's just a hassle.

ahhh. Ren Faires....
Many dilema's my group has solved by simply doing the old 13 yards of flannel wrapped around your body...simple rugged Scottish Highland garb of the middle ages...so simple (Once you get your clan's pattern). Not the traditional ceremonial Kilt, but the "I don't have time and I have work to do" Kilt. Must've had about 8 Scotsmen (and women) last time...

A note on the gogo costume, is your friend cosplaying FFV Gogo (only recently brought to the states) where "he" is a boss, or FFVI (originally brought to the states as III) where he is a character? I believe their designs are moderately different.

As far as group mishaps, when I first decided to do actual competitive cosplay, two years ago at A-kon (before that I had done a brief walk on with my sister, at Ushicon where the masquaerade is non competitive) I got together with 4 other random people I met at the con, and we were going to do a cute little Kingdom Hearts skit. We signed up and all, and then the time for lineup came and... nooobody showed. I ended up going up there solo and telling a joke... and I didn't do masques again, until the next A-kon rolled around, where I teamed up with Cherry whom I had met previously at the CandyHearts cosplay Picnincs. Annnd after that, we decided we enjoyed each other's company and craft so much, that we'd team up. And it's been going really well since that. We're thinking of doing some kind of one year Limit Break aniversarry party thing at A-kon this year. Should be a lor of fun. : D

It's the FFV Gogo, as I understand. And he's insisting that the general design of the costume be taken directly from the Amano design. Gods help him, is all I can say. He has all the fabric, but he can't sew a lick, and I'm in California now, and therefore beyond his help.

At present I'm not even certain that I am attending nan Desu Kan, as I don't know wether or not

1) my kimono will be finished,

and

2) I will be able to afford the trip in general (what with airfare and hotel and whatnot)

I have the same problem as Seraph. It starts off like this:

My friend Chi: "We need to cosplay. As sexy people."
Me: "Duuuude, we should do a (insert series here) cosplay!"
Chi: "Yeah! You look just like (insert character here)! And (insert friend here) could be (insert character here)!"
Me: "THIS IS GOING TO ROCK!"

(A few weeks later)

Me: "Hey, weren't we planning to do a ____ group?"
Chi: "Everyone else dropped out."
Me: "I guess it's just you and me then."

(A few weeks later)

Me: "Um, how about that group cosplay thing?"
Chi: "Oh yeahhhh... that... well, I'll be getting a job soon, and I just don't have the time to make a costume... so..."
Me: "Oh, that's all right. I'll just do it on my own, then."

(At the con)

Me: "Hey, nice costume."
Chi: "Yours is nice too."
Me: "I thought you didn't have time to make a costume."
Chi: "Yeah, well, that was then and this is now. Besides, I never liked (insert series/character here)."

sad

I have the problem of I have to grow my hair out for an audition, so I can't keep it short, but I've always had short hair. So I never even really thought about cosplaying people with long hair. So I'm making costumes that may not work in the long run without me chopping my hair off (though any cons I attend will be after the audition/show if I get in).

Yeah. I don't know.

crying I feel your pain crying

That is the situation every year with my "group". We can never decide, and when we do it falls apart.
