Introduce yourself here.

Quote:
I'm Pandora (Guild Goddess) I created this guild. (Duh.) Pandora is a woman from a Greek myth known as, Pandora's Box. It's my favorite myth which is why I chose her. It always facinated me that one woman could be the cause of all the evils in the world.

But then again take a look at the myth of Adam and Eve. It's very similar, no?

I am Athena or Pallas Athena or Atheneia depending on what you prefer...My object or symbol is the Aegis, the shield of Athena which wields the head of the gorgon Medusa.

My brief little intro to the Greek Goddess Athena:

Athena was born of the titaness Metis and Zeus, god of the heavens. Zeus swallowed Metis after she morphed herself into a fly. Zeus, sometime later, experienced awful head pains which led him to Hephastus, god of the forge, to split open his head; It was then that Athena emerged fully grown and later took her place as Goddess of Wisdom and Justice on Mt. Olympus. She is Zeus' favorite daughter and is allowed to wield her father's lighting bolts and shield as such. Athens is named after her and her animal is the Owl. Athena is known for having conflicts with her half brother Ares. She is a Virgin Goddess....

xd Wow, that was longer than what I thought...

I'm Mazikeen.

A Mazikeen is a sort of fairy (though I don't have any wings) and often I get mistaken for angels. My character is far from angelic, I'm sort of a party-fairy and I love to steal food... I also trick people to teach them a lesson.

What might this lesson be?

A wise man does not know and a fool does not understand it.

*happy posting everybody and congrats with this supercool forum!*

Tad of a correction... Athens isn't named after her. The Greek view was that towns were based around the family system, and Athena's point of rule, was the spot of Athens. Just as some modern towns have patron saints, the Greeks had deities watch over them the same way.

I am Thor, from the nothern lands of the Njords/Nords/Norts. I am the most "human" among the Asgards, my group of godlies. I weird Mjolnir, the Hammer of Thunder. It is so heavy, I have to use a special belt and set of gloves that make me 100 times stronger than normal. I am made fun of by my near-brother, Loki, a shapeshifter and very close to the Christian version of Mazi there. I serve justice to mortal men sometimes, and am looked at not as a perfection, but as a goal.

Greetings, all! Guess I can do my introduction now, eh? Yup, yup. Here we go:

I am Cerberus, Hound of Hades. I was born of the monsters Typhon (a hundred-headed monster who was as tall as the stars and liked to throw mountains at the Titans) and Echidna (she has the head of the lovliest nymph, but the body of a snake). I, myself, possess three heads which are ever watchful. You've gotta keep an eye on those dead people, I swear! And some live ones, too. For instance, Orpheus once charmed me to sleep with his lovely lyre playing. That was a nuisance. And then Heracles brought me up to the king Eurystheus as one of his Twelve Labors. How annoying, right?

Well, it's what one goes through, being a hell-hound and all. But it's not so bad. I get to snack on yummy souls all day long, and my dental plan is outta sight.

Well let’s see in the old guild I was the dragon but I don’t want that I would like to be death angel and the item be the scythe. If that’s ok. I asked slayer if I could use that he said he left Gaia so I could. And poorly I don’t know the history about it.

here you go...

I pulled up some old info on the view of Death wielding a Scythe.... and here's the oldest German-based myth I can find on it:

Cain (a farmer) was the first source of human death and was so "marked" and sent away to Nod (a reputed state of dreams/sleep, as interpretted by a majority of the old German scholars --- death = eternal sleep), so that none finding him would kill him. Within the realm of sleep/death, Cain would reach out and so take every human life afterward and lead guide them with him to their place. Being a farmer, he bears the scythe and his body lives eternally, since he cannot be his own death. Original representations of this figure were as an aged and whithered man, as in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales' "The Pardoner's Tale." However, as time and words changed, the view of an old man became a skeleton figure, and then was seen as impossible, replaced yet again by an angel doing the bidding of the One God.

Hmm, Intro huh?

Ick sorry for that last introduction, but it's very hard to study a creature when all you have is old horribly translated stories, so here goes. Kitsunes are a big topic so I'll only make a few key points. Kitsune in Japan are tied very close to Inari, the Shinto Fortune of Foxes and Rice. The association of Inari and the kitsune have made kitsunes very pervasive, since the Inari shrine is one of the most famous, and most numerous of any shrine in Japan. The symbol of Inari is the red torii (religious gateway), with the image of two white foxes. The white fox was the messenger of Inari, and shrines to Inari were found in almost every town, village, private manor, garden, and geisha house. From a book "'Kitsune is an animal supposed to be mysterious, fascinating, and mischevious. And he is believed to be very grateful for the kindness done to him, as seen in many tales, and is also affectionate as revealed in some dramas. He is enshrined as a god because of his supernatural power. He is endowed with the subtle art of metamorphosis, and he is able to bewitch men in the guise of a charming girl. An exceedingly interesting and entertaining beast Kitsune is.' (preface, page vii)" And they are very vampiric in nature, to manifest a Kitsune (A very rare event) requires lots of prayer and offerings too, to keep them happy, but even happy they need to survive which will cause many plagues including blight, sickness etc.. since manifesting a kitsune disrupts the balance. A kitsune normally lives in it's own element to feed on and stay healthy. Kitsunes can take the form of anything! (Trees, rocks, people, etc..) and can possess mortals and seduce mortals and have sex with them (Which enables them to steal your life energies which will make you very sick and eventually die.) Kitsunes only do this when they are mad/unhappy, and usually cannot hurt mortals unless mortals are hurting them. Kitsunes have said to have a life expectansy of 900-1000 years, then they finally rest eternaly after gaining the proper whisdom to join the celestial court. Kitsunes that are 900-1000 years are said to have the form of a golden fox with 9 tails, which makes me wonder if they gain/lose powers with age. Kitsune, in their current manifestation, were introduced to Japan from China and Korea. The Japanese liked the kitsune so much, that it was adapted to the Japanese culture, and went through an amazing metamorphosis. The kitsune were first found, though, in India. According to the stories and such. The word kitsune comes from two sounds in the Japanese language, kitsu, which is the sound of a fox yelp, and ne, a word signifying affectionate feeling. In ancient times, kitsu meant 'fox'.
That's it. (And yes those are key points, if I wanted to I could spam but I'm not mean.)

Hmm, intro huh..?

Very well, I’m Phoenix, the mystical fiery bird. The Phoenix is a bird, composed of fire (Brain working there...). The Phoenix has many names, some of which : Feng-Haung, Ho-oo, Firebird, Benu and Yel. The origins of the names stated before, are based off the: Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Egyptian, and Native American counterparts. The Phoenix is a large Eagle with red or gold feathers. (Though in the Chinese legend, it has five colors instead of two) The phoenix does not require water, nor fruit, but yet frankincense. The bird lives 500 years, then gathers materials and makes a nest with oak wood, on a palm tree. The frankincense, cinnamon and spikenard and then dies. With all these materials collected, it will arise three days later. In most legends, the Phoenix is said to rise again, thus becoming identified with the resurrection of the Catholic lord, Jesus, a symbol of life after death, and a sense of immortality.

I'd like to say congrats on the multi-source explanation. You might also want to add in the Greek belief in (partly adopted from the Eqyptions), and the Sumerian myth that the phoenix was a guardian of the living soul (Sumerians had no belief of an afterlife).

Tiny corrections to add... Jesus is the Christian lord, not just the Catholic (He's also considered a prophet, not the Messiah, by the Muslims) and only in the past 300 years, after the so-called "Medival Age" and the earlier "Dark Age" when Christians weren't quite strong in any sense, did the idea that Jesus and the phoenix are linked. Cute concept, though.
