Amidst the rolling hills within Radernok Plains is the compound of the Mercenary League. The Delfos Empire is the primary sponsor of the mercenarys, and makes such extesive use of their services that half the Imperial Army consists of paid mercenaries recruited from the wilderness regions and less traveled areas of Beyon.
The main building in the center of the Mercenary League Compound is a raised concrete bunker with silvery fin extending from the top. This fin is twice as long as the building itself, and serves as a radio tower for the entire base. In order to get inside the bunker itself you must pass the main security checkpoint at the outer perimeter, and then another at the bunker itself. The basement of this building is a communications relay from where radio, satelite, internet & phone communications are recieved and distributed throughout the base. The top floor is a wide open lobby with the Mercenary League insignia spread across the floor. The decor is done in Red & Black, the colors of the League. At the end of the lobbby there is a reception desk where the secretary, Joe Stetler, of the Mercenary League main office is stationed. ((NPC, shared by crew)).
There is one final security check before one enters the offices of the League Officers. First there are the offices of Brig. Generals and to the very back is the offices of the Generals themselves. To the right and left are the offices of the higher ranking generals. In the center is the office of MDG herself. Each of these offices is spacious, contains a window, and is paneled in the tastes of the occupant to disguise the fact that this is indeed a huge bunker. The offices of the of the Brig. Generals are only slightly smaller, but each is around the edge of the building, affording them a window. In the center of this arrangement is a conference room with dark wood paneling and overhead lighting, all the equipment needed for adequate meetings is contained therein, including projector, overhead screen, wall mounted High Definition Television screen, etc.
The second basement serves as a near impregnable bomb shelter fitted with the best NBC decontamination filter money can buy. The walls of the bunker itself are several inches thick, and are actually three feet thick around the bomb shelter. This is not pure concrete, but layers of armor are inside, one of hardened steel, and the other of adamantite. Communications can be diverted to run from the bomb shelter in the event of an all out bombardment of the league compound.
________ Security_________
Perimeter security is tight, the entire area is fenced off, ten thousand bolts constantly running through the fence to keep intruders at bay. Secret moitering stations are kept at ground level, detecting visual, infrared, heat, anomolies. Each station has an automatic laser and projectile turret and alarm system to stall off any threat until those in authority can deal with it. In some places the perimeter is mined to prevent unauthorized intrusion via sappers. Only league members know where to look for these mine feilds. There are manned gun towers at every corner and every 100 meters, each with an NPC guard trained to fire a high calibre machine gun and rain grenades on the first sign of unauthorized intrusion. These guards are all capable soldiers.
Once inside, there is aditional security for the main compound. Automated turrets with advanced aiming protocals protect the lobby, and will not fire upon anyone who has access to the league. There is also a manned security checkpoint at the door, and another behind the lobby desk.
__________Proving Grounds__________
The proving grounds is a thirty square kilometer area outside the perimeter fence for the testing of weapons used by the league. It is a flat plain surrounded by many short hills, a small brook runs through it from northeast to south west. There a few trees near the center, and a small clump of woodland about a kilometer in area at the northeastern edge. The remains of a few burnt out battle tanks and other machines clutter the area. Drills are held here daily, and there are obstacle courses for basic training all around the compound.
_________Barracks______________
Inside the compound, along the western fence and extending over to half the compound, are the cement buildings that are nothing more than sleeping quarters for the vast number of lower ranking members of the league. These buildings are four stories high, each floor containing nothing more than row upon row of triple bunk beds, each labeled and numbered accordingly. Towards the north, there are barracks commisioned officers that are slightly more cozy, the bunks are only two high and the lockers are more spacious.
________Officers Quarters_________
Each of the officers ranking above Lieutenant are housed in the officers building. This building is laid out like a cement hotel, each officer receiving their own private bed, office, and bath. The first floor is for the higher ranking officers, with the exception of the Supreme Commander, who sleeps in the main compound.
__________R&D__________
A small building to the southeast is the League R&D, a lab is attached to the building, though most of the research is done on the proving grounds. There is also a small tool shop in this building for the modification of machines.
Chairperson: Dracorian as (Colonel Drake..........) _______Inteligence________
Next to the Main compound and attached via enclosed walkway is the inteligence office. This is where the league's agents are coordinated, and all pertinent information received in the main compound will make it here on approval of the higher ups, while anything this department learns must be sent to the main office for scrutiny by the general staff. So far, the main purpose of this office has been keeping track of the world situation and hunting for sources of work outside the empire.
Vacant post
_______Imperial Offices________
The empire mantains a diplomatic office, it is a small building between the main office and the R & D labs. The building has its own self-contained imperial staff to attend to the diplomat, and the leaugue is always anxious to see that this overseer is kept happy and misinformed.
Vacant Post.
_______Empty ground___________
There is considerable space in the north-east portion of the perimeter for expansion and new construction should it be needed.

The R&D labs were easily the most advanced buildings on the compound. Housing multiple workstations where the scientists, developers, and engineers could work on creating new technology for the benmefit of the Mercenary League. Near the back of the building was Drake's office, as well as his private lab. Never having been much of a nit-picker, his office was unoranized, to say the least, with papers, books, reports, and various failed attempts at projects. But on this particular day, he was back in the lab, ready to smash his head against the wall. He was busy trying to figure out a particalar adaptation of his newest creation, the APCA Mark I and Mark II. The APCA (All Purpose Combat Aromor) was the latest creation in infantry defense, and utilized some of the most advanced technology around. He sighed as he read over his report at the latest test, the latest failure in a long line that had been frustrating him for so long. With a weak smile from lack of sleep and nourishment, he looked up at the presentation speech he had written in preparation for when it was perfected.
"Ladies and gentelmen, I give you the APCA Mark I and the APCA Mark II.
What does it do? Well thats actually quite simple. The APCA stands for All Purpose Combat Armor. The Mark I is for regular infantry, and has three modes. The beautiful thing about this is that the armor can change on the battlefield between the three modes with the simple entry of a code. The first mode, Lightning Mode, is for all out assualt. It is a light armor bioweave, with tightly laced strands of kevlar interweaved throughout the suit. The weapon is the standard issue of combat troopers, the R10 Assualt Rifle. The second mode, Thunder Mode, is for heavy weapon assualt troopers. The armor is a thick layer of bioweave, covered in detonating ceramic plates, much like the armor on a tank. This is designed so that if the wearer is hit with an explosive round, the plates explode outwards away from the wearer. The weapons for this armor are the APE (Anti-Personel explosive) Disposable Rocket Launcher and the .50 caliber heavy assualt machine gun. The final mode is known as Angel Mode, and is for Med troopers. It has the standard light bioweave armor, but only comes with a .45 Desert Eagle for personel protection. The main feature of it is the BLR (Bio-Life-Restorative) Medcase.
The Mark II is a special armor, and is reserved for Special Ops Soldiers only. It comes with the standard three modes, but also includes a fourth mode, known as Shadow Mode. This mode is basically a stealth mode. It is black matte, with a special headset that allows for everything from infrared to nightvision. The most important feature of it however is the belt. Besides holding all the gear, it has the microgenerator that powers the stealth system. The belt has enough power to allow its wearer complete invisibility for up to five minutes. After that, the user must wait about ten for it to power back up. The weapons are a silenced 9 millimeter pistol, and a Black Matte K-Bar Combat knife.
Is it dangerous? Well, put it this way...if you dont have one, you dont want to be against someone who does.
Cost? Well, there lies the fault....each suit would measure roughly around......10 to 15 thousand.
Pic: When not being worn, the armor looks like a simple briefcase. In order to use, the soldier places it on the ground, opens it, and types in their personal code. The armor will activate, and automatically attach to the user."
This drew a soft chuckle from out of his tired body. Wow....he sounded like one of those infomercial morons lauding praise upon the newest household cleaner. But this was more than a cleaning product. This would save lives, if only he could get the N-space technology to work as he wanted it to. When in its sealed form, the matter that formed the armor was sealed in Negative-space, allowing him to store all the ammo, weapons, and armor in a very small space. The problem was in the armor stage transference. They had tried to get the armor to shift modes while on a dummy, and had to wince as the dummy's body was crushed, squashed, ripped apart, and mashed as the armor changed. They could never put that on a human, and it would be dangerous to have to take off the armor, input a new code, then wait for it to come on. So, as it stood, he was at an impass.

MDG stood up, examining the suits.
"Colonel Drake, I commend you on your efforts. However, this isn't going to work for the organization. The cost is restrictive, even if we only deployed it for the elites. The first flaw is anti-personel weapons directly on the armor itself, these could easily backfire, most likely damaging or removing an arm from a user who is not extra careful. The Mark I far to heavy for most soldeirs, I doubt I'd be able to wear it for more than five minutes before I tired out."
"What kind of application do you use to store all that equipment in briefcase anyway?" she asked.
She knew this was dangerous question, and hoped he wasn't trying something that involved negative space again. You think he'd learn how dangerous anti-matter was after the first few experiments. rolleyes

"Eh...well...about that..."
There was really no point in lying, for she would find out eventually. After all, she was the boss.
"I know the past few attempts with the Negative space energy field failed, but I know I can make it work, I know it! Even if not for this particular invention, then for so many other things that it can be useful for!"
He was getting passionate now. He had never truley failed in anything in his life, and he had no intention of starting now. He was going to figure out the mysteries of negative space, even if it took him years. Unless MDG pulled the plug, which would leave him no choice but to end operations.

"Commander M," Lieutenant Rick Stone said, walking up from behind. "I know that...previous attempts were hallmarked in failure...or disaster, depending on how you'd like to describe it. But we are close, closer than you probably realize. And once we get it to work, despite the expense, I may be able to find a way to reduce the cost. But that can't happen if you decide to shut off funding for this project. We can do this well, we just need you to let us do the job...ma'am." He became self aware and snapped to the position of attention, awaiting whatever Commander MerDefsGirl's response would be.

"No," she said, "I can't throw money down the drain on such dangerous projects. It's immpossible, any item stored in negative space would instantly and explosively be canceled out by the anti-mater existing there, and the opening of portals to and from negative space, even if it was possible, would threaten the stability of the world. I can not condone this."
Red smiled slightly.
"I'm diverting your funding for this project to New Genesis, so do you wish to help with something useful or not?"

Gear grit his teeth, his eyes angry, but invisible behind his visor. That had been a lot of work, and they really were close. But that's what happens when higher-ups get involved; they have no idea what's going on, don't take the time to find out, and when the numbers don't look good to them, they base their decisions upon those alone. He didn't fault her for that; nearly every person in authority on this planet had a detachment syndrome when it came to science and R&D projects. No one seemed to get it. He bit his tongue, though, and waited to see what Colonel Drake would say.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
At present the young man was unaware of tensions seething in the small building, his focus mainly on the tiny dot approximately 300 yards away. Recently before arriving at the League compound he had botched a coloring of his hair, turning it a strange gray color, and he just needed to take out general frustration on the targets situated around the proving grounds.
A single eye sighted along the pins on the autorevolver while he carefully took note of subtle gusts of wind that could have blown the bullet astray. Having little patience for aiming, he took one last notation before firmly squeezing the trigger and sending a lead slug towards the target..
..about three centimeters left from the bullseye. His sharp eyes could see the large hole even from where he was standing. It was as clear as the blue sky.
"Damn it."

He felt his anger roiling deep inside his core, but, like any good professional soldier, he buried it deep. He would find a way to release it later on, but for now, he knew that to argue would only cause more problems than it would solve. Despite his resolve though, the temperature in the room momentarily spiked in response to his roiling emotions.
"Yes ma'am. As you command. I'll handle the shut down and disposal of the equipment immediately. Will there be anything else?"
His voice was calm and even, showing none of the tension and frustration he felt. This wasnt the first time something important to him had been cancelled, and it wouldnt be the last. He just had to grit his teeth and bear it until he could find an outlet later.

Quote: Will there be anything else?" She focused on the Colonel intently, then on the Lieutenant. "Well, I did expect more curiosity about the New Genesis project, but since you seem to disdian anything that won't potentially shatter the structure of the universe, I'll give the project exclusively to intelligence for now. That is, unless you are interested in actually doing some research. I want us to be the first to unlock its secrets, so we can prevent it from being used to cause destruction."

At this, any anger or frustration he had been feeling evaporated, and was instead replaced by a new motivation. If anything was going to be unlocked, discovered, or invented, it was going to be by his department. His back straightened noticeably, and this time, when he spoke, his voice was honest and sincere, filled with a new drive.
"Ma'am, with all due respect, their more likely to destroy half the planet than we are. Please, leave this project, whatever it is, to us. Now...are there any relevent details we should know about concerning this project? Goals, restrictions, general information, previous research, clues....any information you have on this would be helpful toward figuring out the final solution."
He felt a slight amount of shame creeping into the back of his head. Shame over his lost temper, shame at his almost insubordination. It wouldnt happen again, that he would make damn sure of.

Gear was far too stubborn to let go of his anger towards the Armeekorps Five-Star, but still kept it hidden. It only made him more agitated when she took the sarcastic tone and mentioned that she'd give the project to Intelligence. He almost scoffed at those oxymorons. But he kept silent as Colonel Drake began to ask questions about this new project. He barely took any notice of anything that was being said. He'd catch up later. He fell into a daydreaming silence, going over every last detail of the armor, what they'd done wrong, and anything else.

"The Final Solution? Am I in the wrong place?"
The recently promoted retired master gunnery sergeant stood in the doorway with her hair tucked away hidden beneath a black unmarked ball cap, ponytail pulled through the gap in the back. With steel toed black leather boots, black canvas cargo pants, and her custom Kevlar mock-turtleneck sleeveless vest, she looked more like she was ready to start construction on something highly volatile than research. Regardless of her question, she set down a small black backpack just to the right of the door frame and picked up a white lab coat, moving further into the lab and removing her cover.
Inside and uncovered, she stood at attention before the league commander and the head of her new department, slightly inclining her head in deference. With her shoulders rolled back and her head held high, she allowed her chapped and chewed lips a professional smile. The Parris Island song of her voice rang out with confidance but not overt loudness.
"We will do New Genesis our piece of justice, ma'am."
