For those of you who get unreasonably attached to fictional characters, tell me who your favorite character from a book is. Just do it, damn you. I don't read very much fiction, so I don't have a real favorite. I really liked Boxer from Animal Farm, but that's just because I'm a crazy gal. I'll think of a better answer later. mad

O-Lan from The Good Earth. I felt so much for her.
I feel kindred to the characters in my favorite books, but I wouldn't say I'm unreasonably attached to most of them. Ironically, though I didn't feel like I could relate to O-Lan as much as I could to other characters in other books, I really felt so much towards her. I was angry at those who treated her poorly, and sorrowful for all she suffered, more so than any other character I can think of at the moment.

Florida. I got extremely attached to her.
She's from Elsewhere, by Will Shetterly. She's a little elf girl, who doesn't speak. She wears an over-sized adult T-shirt, as a tunic, and a beaded tourist belt with the word 'Florida' on it. In the belt, she keeps a knife. Which she can use. She guards Castle Pup, which is a place where a group of Runaways, Elfin, Human, and Half-elf all live together.

Hmm, can it be a charachter I made up? If so, I have to fanfics and three other stories and I made this half dog half wolf yokai (demon) named Lydia for an Inuyasha fanfic and she turned out more depressed than I had intended. She keeps appering in my other stories, always more depressed if she's not human (yes I change her specius, so far she's been human three times, half dog half woulf yokai, and half dark half ligh fairy). She sticks around and won't go away. It's sometimes annoying.
Lydia: Me? Annoying?
see what I mean?
Lydia: I do all the work around here and this is my thanks?
I have authoress powers, you know....
Lydia: grrrrrrr
Did I mention she's really sarcastic and critical in my AN's (Author's Notes)?

I have become very much attached to Raine from Ring of Five Dragons by Eric Van Lustbader. She is a very strong female character. There aren't very many strong female characters anymore. Usually the guy is the strong one and the woman is the whimp that he has to protect. But for Raine it is the other way around.

I have no idea why, but I love the character of Mayland Long, from the book Tea With the Black Dragon. The book is really not very good, in fact it kind of stinks, but I kept reading for Mayland. He appears to be about fifty years old, slender, dark and rather asian with long, lean hands. The female lead says that he should play piano, but he maintains that he does not create; he only collects. That is because he is a dragon - an imperial dragon, no less, and cannot create anything on his own. He wears well tailored suits, and lives permanently in the most expensive hotel in whatever large city the story takes place in. He eats every night at the hotel resteraunt.
His room is a suite, filled with bookshelves full of different kinds of books. They fill all four walls to the ceiling, and the only break in the books is where a statue rests, in the form of a black dragon. He is holding a teacup in one hand, the saucer in the other, and spectacles perch upon his nose; his tail is curled around in front of him, holding open a book. The statue's name is Oolong, like the tea. In fact, when the female lead, whose name I have forgotten, visits his room, she asks the name of the statue. When he tells her, she thinks he is referring to the tea that she is drinking. Suddenly, she says, with perfect clarity, that they are all one and the same. The word Oolong is for the dragon, the tea... and Mayland Long himself.
At any rate, he's the first of many nifty characters that sprang to mind.

My favourite characters of all time are Ford Prefect from The Hitchhikers series and Roberto the talking fruit bat in Island of the Sequined Love Nun.
That's right. He's a talking fruit bat.

Heh. I like Meggie. Oddly, though, I actually like Dustfinger better. For some reason I never got all that attatched to the girl.
