Death Note | by Tsugumi Ouba and Takeshi Obata
Category: Shounen / Sci-Fi. (I think)
Rating: I’d recommend it for ages 15+ due to the themes/ideas used.
Intro:
Death Note: How to use it
1) The human whose name is written is this note shall die.
2) This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person’s face
in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the
same name will not be affected.
3) If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the
Person’s name, it will happen.
4) If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a
Heart attack.
5) After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written
in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
Boredom. It seems to surround a number of the characters at the
beginning of the story. In the world of the death gods, nothing
exciting happens according to the death god, Ryuuku. In the human
world, Raito / Light is bored with his simple and uneventful life. That is
until Ryuuku decides to drop his Death Note – a book that when a
person’s name is written in it, they’ll die – on Earth. Raito picks up the
book and at first takes it as a joke… until he realises that it’s for real.
Instead of backing away from the book, Raito chooses to cleanse the
world. Using the Death Note, he murders severe criminals and earns
himself the name of ‘Kira’ worldwide. Then comes to face an opponent
– ‘L’. ‘L’ is determined to capture ‘Kira’ and bring him to justice for the
murder of several people. However, things aren’t so simple. Both L and
Kira are masterminds and are skilled with thinking up of strategies to
evade the other. Who will outsmart who?

The Upside
Okay, there is one particular word that I have for this one. Addictive. It’s
so addictive. Once you start to read it, the chapters will seem to fly by
and then you’ll realise that you’ve read through the night. Its story is
awesome and the images are good. At first I was sceptical about the story
when I was simply judging it by appearances. Next thing I knew, I was
engrossed with the story. It’s clever, brilliant and makes you wonder, how
would you react if a Death Note were to really appear on Earth.
The Downside
Hm… I guess that depending on the reader, you could really get annoyed
at one or two of the characters that come up. In my case, it was Misa
- won’t give everything away but – her rather brainless affections for Raito
ticked me off. The end. Besides that, I can’t think of anything else.

This was a very good manga till about the 70th chapter when certain events happen leading into replay of the story with diffrent twist but none the less good. I ve only read to chapter 94 i think...so beyond that i dont know if it gets better.

It's been a while since I've read it... I can't remember which chapter I'm up to... ^^;;; however, the twists gosh... twisted
Even in the later stages, I still find Misa to me annoying lol...

Wah! I adore this manga! It's my favorite!
The movie was brilliant, too! And I even heard they will release an anime on October 3rd (in Japan). So, I can't wait for that if it's true! LoL.

Captain Bloo Wah! I adore this manga! It's my favorite!
The movie was brilliant, too! And I even heard they will release an anime on October 3rd (in Japan). So, I can't wait for that if it's true! LoL.

I really enjoy reading this manga...though I do hate it when my sister rushes me to finish reading so we can leave the bookstore. I do not absorb all the details and forget some things.
I've heard that they are making an Asian drama out of it but I am not really sure

I've enjoyed the manga so far and the anime keeps pretty true to the manga so it's good as well (then again it's only on episode 3 or 4 so that's not saying much). I'm looking forward to the live action movie though. That looks awesome!

I'm addicted to the manga, but I've only read up to end of book nine. And I've only seen the first two episodes.
It really is a very good series, but I have to agree with you. I hate Misa so much, she really ticks me off.

Indeed the manga is good, though I've not managed to find many locally in this hell hole of a town. surprised The anime HAS been released, though I'm sure you already know this..lol I've watched all the way up to 25 and it's well done. Like everyone else, I agree that Misa is annoying, and she's even MORE annoying in the actual anime- so to those of you who haven't watched that far in the anime, prepare yourself for squeeky voice to make you want to shove a pencil in your ear. ^.^
