The smug man stared incredulously at the simple orb. What was he going to do with such a useless thing? Flipping it about in his palms, the old man lifted a brow and scowled at the item. He had discovered the curious sphere in the middle of park. In fact, it was never an intended discovery at all. He had been walking along in his peaceful pace, admiring the silence and cursing all who walked by. He was never really social and he didn't like going near people. So he strayed from his usual pathway and ended up tripping over this...thing.

"Stupid," He hissed, getting ready to throw the appraently useless item over his shoulder and out of his life. But then, a thought snapped into his mind. He pulled the orb back in front of his face and inspected it once more. Wasn't...Weren't these those magical balls that those Magi people brought to life? Hmm...Thoughts flittered through the older man's mind and he grinned maliciously. The sphere seemed so innocent, so pure. Perhaps he could sell this being off or something...

Well, to be able to sell the being, he'd have to bring it to the Magi council. And that's precisely what he was going to do.

Stepping into Ergo's presence, the old raggedy looking man scratched his unshaven chin and asked carelessly, "I found this in the park. What'd I do to get this thing breathing? What is it anyway?"

The man had journeyed up to the place of the Magi cousel and simply went to the man he saw first. And that young magi happened to be Ergo. He'll get this being, alright.

The man might get his creature made, but it would not be by Ergo. Walking into the grand main hall, Claus glanced at the commotion. One look at Ergo and it was easy to see the younger mage was at his wits end. Too many were calling on him simply because they knew of his name.

"You have too many as it is," Claus said, walking up to the shorter boy, putting a hand on his shoulder. Pushing Ergo towards the door, Claus waited till the other mage was out of the room before even acknowledging the old man.

"You said you want this orb to have breath," he started opening his hand, the pink orb now sitting on his palm, "Yet you don't know what it is." Watching the old man with a level stare, Claus smirked. "Your wish can be granted, however your life may be the payment." Pausing for a moment, to glance into the orbs swirling sands, Claus smirked again, "Are you willing to accept that fate?"

He never liked mages, he concluded.

The old man scoffed and flung a hand up to show his disgust, "Hell no!" He was, after all, a simple thieving old vagabond without a job, home, or family, searching for a way to get more money. His life? For that thing's life? He didn't even know what the hell it was! It was a shiney smooth ball. And that's all it was to the old man. "Ye think I'd give up mah life fer that thing? You're mah stupid than I thought! You can have it for a price. It's either you take that damned useless thing off meh hands or I throw it off a building. And cer'inly, I ain't no giving meh life fer some stupid ball, y'hear? It could just die fer all I care!"

The swirling orb remained still and innocent in the magi's hands, unaware, and winking in the light.

Tilting his head, Claus watched the man as he spouted off about how important his life was. If only he knew, then prehaps he'd think differently about the whole affair.

"If you feel that way about it," Claus started turning, his jacket flaring around him as he walked away. "Then I won't be giving this back. These are as rare as black gold, and you believe your own pathetic life is more important. What a fool."

The old man snapped out his hand like a striking cobra and grasped Claus's shoulder, spinning him around in a frenzy. Rolling the man's cuff into a balled fist, the old vagabond dragged the magi close to his face and stared him down with angry peasant eyes. That thing as rare as black gold?! Certainly he could pawn it off to some store for a fortune! No way was he going to let that magi steal his orb! Cocking his head to the side and spitting upon the tiled floor, the old man pierced his gaze into Claus, "I ain't no fool, ye hear?" He growled in a low menacing voice, breathing into the other man's face, "I ain't dying to give that thing life. And you ain't walking away with what's mine. Gimme meh stupid ball."

The orb was still and motionless in Claus's protective hands as if it froze in utter terror of what was happening. But that sphere didn't know what was going on? Right?

Violently jerking Claus's collar again, the man placed his palm out and waited expectantly for it to either be filled or balled up into a fist so that he could punch the lights out of the magi who had 'stolen' his orb. This man had nothing left besides that orb, who knows what lengths he was willing to go to get that innocent orb from the magi's hands and sell it!

Out of all the Magi, Claus was the worst to do such a thing to. He had very little patience, even before he was an immortal. "You will let go of me," Claus started, giving the old peddler a moment to come to reason. He couldn't harm the other without at least giving him a warning.

When it was apparent the other would never let him go willingly, Claus lifted his free hand. With a wave of the Magi's hand the old man was thrown from him, though buffered by unseen hands that kept him from slamming into the marble walls.

"Your orb?" Claus started, glaring at the man with grey eyes that looked vivid, magic rolling through them as his temper grew. "You lost your chance to have a part in this ones life, old fool. Touch me again and your life is forfeit." While Claus was not a large man, he didn't have much muscle that could be seen, though if you were lucky enough to get through his magic, he could take care of himself.

What power! The vagabond thought as he was thrown from the magi known as Claus. What strength! If only he were young again, perhaps this old coot could have a chance at the magi. However, those days were long gone and he was nothing but a rusty irritated ancient husk. Slamming on the ground, he thanked the fact that his brittle bones did not break from impact. However, what did break, was the man's pride. The old man carefully picked himself up from the floor, his angry eyes burning with a newfound hatred for this magi as he slowly straightened his back, moving like an old rusted machine. Spitting again on the floor as he wiped at his mouth with the dirty sleeve of his torn jacket, the old man shook his grey hair from his narrowed eyes and hammered his fist furiously into the air, "I will have meh revenge, ya pompus book worm! I'll be back, an' I'll take back what's mine! Ya haven't seen the last of meh!"

And with those threatening words, the old man retreated back the way he had came, shoving his hands into his pockets and cursing all the meanwhile. He'll get that stone back...Even if it took his life. But right now, he couldn't fight this enemy whom he knew nothing about. This old geezer wasn't an veteran war soldier for nothing! That orb will be his and that magi will pay...He knew it. And then the man left, brief and destructive like the tornado, leaving a mystery as to his return.

The innocent orb lay still in the magi's hands, still seeming as if petrified with fear. But when the old man left, the orb gently started its swirls again, but in a more hesitating feaful manner.

Watching the man leave with careful eyes, the magi waited till the doors had shut before turning to the boy that had remained hidden in the corner. "Thaius were you going to watch that man punch me?" he asked with an amused voice.

Walking forward Thaius laughed, "He'd not have landed the punch." Stopping just in front of the taller magi, Thaius looked up at Claus. "He will return," the boy said, his swirling teal eyes glinting with a hint of humor.

"Aye and he will see the true might of our guards when he does," Claus countered before looking at the orb in his hand. "No traits given, shall we see what you'd like to be?"

Smiling gently, Thaius took Claus' sleeve tugging him forward. The old man had been a fool to take on a magi. Immortal and blessed by the gods, they were not mere magicians with doves and cards. "You'll be late for meeting," he said which had Claus moving to the door. Even as they left the room, Claus thought of the orb that was now safely nestled in his room. He'd research it later, after the god awful meeting.
