An out of body experience, or Astral projection, is a difficult thing to master, although some find it easer than others. A projection of your astral body, or your soul (however you want to look at it) can be dangerous. I have to stress that it can be if you aren't careful, or you try to move to fast and don't give yourself time to adjust. (by move too fast, I don't mean physically or moving your Astral self, but trying to hard to get it and not letting it naturally come to you, if you are ready then it will work, although as with everything it does take practice. )
At first especially it is a good idea (I highly recommend it) to start in a circle or sacred space. (Candles are not recommended, for if you leave your body then they could become a danger. ) You will need to meditate and relax, make sure you have plenty of room, because your body will be where you leave it, and it may shift as your muscles relax and gravity pulls it downward. (I find it is best to lie on my back where I can't really move anywhere without moving...)
It is best to have your chakras cleaned out, or some like to start by cleaning them right before. (This will be covered in another lesson) It is best to be comfortable, not to hot, and not to cold, and in a comfortable position that can be held for a long time. Using controlled breathing, slowly let your body and your astral body separate. This is most commonly done by visualizing your astral body pealing away and shrinking inward into your body, and slowly gathering in your head, as it peels away from your feet, and works its way up, until the whole thing is in your head.
Once your astral body is in your head, open your Ajna Chakra (more commonly known as the Third Eye Chakra) and let your astral body slowly move out and into the air above you.
Once you are out of your body, let your astral body unfold and regain shape. Be careful not to freak out when you sit up and turn around and see your body lying on the ground, looking for all purposes dead. (Really it's not, if you look carefully you will see slow steady breathing. ) Many people get to this stage and panic and get instantly pulled back into their body, all the work for nothing. (I did my first time, I had no warning that I would be able to see what looked like me on the floor dead... I wonder what that is like when you die...?)
You will notice that your body doesn’t just float, it walks and does everything a normal body does, even though it has no need to walk on the ground, and you will catch your astral body miming breathing and such things that it doesn’t really need to do, habits are hard to break.
You will probably notice a thin thread attached to your body and your astral body, most of the time it is a white or silver thread, although it can very in color and thickness. This is your link to your body, your emergency break if you will, and it is Very important. (Some say if it breaks you won't be able (or that it is near impossible) to get back into your body. (some speculate that when someone goes into a coma and is gone for 20 years or so, they spend all that time following the thread back to their body’s, and that's why the just seem to suddenly wake up for no reason. Some also think that when people are in a coma and don't wake up it's because that line broke and they can't follow it back and can't find their body’s. We are not totally sure, but it's NOT worth tampering with.)
When you get overly excited or scared while astral projected, it is what pulls you suddenly and rather harshly back to your body. (I have noticed that if you travel far like, out of state and such, that it DOES take longer for that cord to whip you back to your body than it does if your in the same room.)
It is a good Idea to not go further than the room (or outside the circle if it's not totally covering the room for that matter. I've broken the circle once, it wasn't happy, because your union of body and soul created the circle. If you step outside the circle, it confuses things, and either the circle breaks up, for not knowing who to protect, the sprit or the body, or it will keep you out (which will be bad... trust me, luckily I had a friend that came and broke the circle so I could get back in my body, although she freaked out pretty bad when I showed up at her house, with no body.) So it is best to stay in the circle.)
When you gain confidence moving about with just your astral body, you can try flying and moving through things and trying to make your astral body touch real things (much harder then they all seem, really. Flying is hard because we are used to having our feet on the ground, it's easiest for me to just pick my feet up and sit cross-legged on the air. moving through things kind of tingles, as if your feet have gone numb.(or whatever you put through an object.) Making your astral body touch things is very hard, you have to focus your energy to one point on your body, and push very hard with your mind to make it even have a texture to keep from going through. (I can push a feather across a smooth table, but only a few inches, it's hard.) )
When you wish to go back into your body, you focus your self on your Third Eye Chakra and slowly let yourself melt back into it. (some people would rather lie on their body and go through it until it's back where it's supposed to be, but I find this uncomfortable and then my body doesn’t quite feel like it fits right lol.) Then put all your parts back where they go.
I find it's easiest to come out of the meditation slowly, and open my eyes, still not moving my body, and I often feel like I can't move my body. Sometimes I have to tell myself "Wake Up" and then I can move again.
The best advice is to stay calm through the whole process (and I admit that the first few times it's very hard when it starts working because you go "yes!" and get excited and that will snap you back to your body and make you start over. ) and don't get overly stressed if it doesn’t work the first few times, it takes lots of practice and work to get it all right.

One thing I have noticed is that, while your aura goes with you when you astral project, (for obvious reasons) if you are pregnant and you astral project, when you return you can see your baby's aura very clearly, because it's not mixed at all with yours. ^_^ It was a very intresting discovery that I made the other day when I did this.

That is a very useful site ^-^ I have gotten most of my information on astral projection from this site. Plus it has a nifty layout whee
Oh another thing I'd like to add to this is that's it's important that you relax and it also helps if you're a lucid dreamer. Lucid dreaming is when you are dreaming but are aware of the fact that you are dreaming. Some can guide their dreams once they realise they are dreaming and can change what they are dreaming. Also, others use lucid dreaming as a way of finding spirit guides and gaurdians. Others use lucid dreaming for magic. Called dream magic, they set up an their own sacred space in their dreams and perform spells or ritualswhich they have memorised while awake.
Hope that helped ^-^ Even though I sort of went of topic.

I am not, and my information comes from what works best for me, what I've tried and been sucessfull with over the years... I can do 'dream magic' although it takes a lot of focus and will power for me-although it usualy pays off for many times the magic is stonger or more effective.

Yes I image it would take alot of will-power and focus [nod nod] I still have not been able to lucid dream yet although I'm still trying and not planning on giving up ^-^ Also I supose it all just depends on the individual. Whatever works for you is best! 3nodding whee

Heh, I guided my boyfriend through an astral projection once.... He got kinda freaked out when he came back because his body was all relaxed and heavy xd (he's always very tense and I think that's the first time his whole body's been relaxed).
I'm not a lucid dreamer, mainly because I can't see when I dream. It's really weird, because I hardly use my eyes when I'm awake, and when I'm astral projecting or dreaming I can't see anything, which is why I hardly ever remember any dreams...

You don't nessesaraly have to be able to see to be able to dream, most of my dreams are more sound and sent and touch... for a long time I could not dream in pictures... That's recently fixed it's self, but it still makes for interesting combonations of senses.

Yeah, I wake up and I know that I was dreaming because I remember vague sensations, but I can't remember what the dream was about. Usually the way I remember songs or plays or someone's face is to picture it in my mind stressed

It's the thread that binds the soul (astrial body) to the body, it connects the two, and if somthing happens to either the soul or the body, then it snaps the two together (much like a bungie cord) so that the person is whole again. It is rumored that if your thread breaks then you could become paralized or die...because your soul wouldn't know how to return to your body... although there is no way to prove this one way or another. It is said that people that go into comas for years and suddenly wake up for no apparent reason have had just this happen to them, that their soul wandered and eventuley by luck found the body again, and that's why they woke up. They also speculate that if you strech your cord way out you can get lost and spend years or so following it back, but again, it's all theory with that. The thread can be various thicknesses and colors, although the most common are white or silver. 3nodding

I wanted to take a mini-vacation to my boyfriend's house just to poke at him in his sleep, but.. crap. I'm afraid to take a risk now. I was told that the string was just a connecting line, and when it was your time the string snapped. I was also told that you could return to your body just by freaking out or wanting to go back in. I've even heard people went to the moon in OBEs. I must do research. <3!

I've even heard people went to the moon in OBEs. I must do research. <3! It's not very likley that anything will happen, it's quite rare that anything will happen, and the reason you return to your body if you 'freak out' is because it's a reflex to get back to your body when your in danger, and if you 'freak out' it reads that as danger. That's why you get snapped back to your body. It's a self defence thing, but it can be diffacult to get over that at first, because you get excited that your doing it, and it makes you snap back, and you have to start over. I would say if you practiced and worked at it for a while first, you should be fine to travle ot your bf's house, as I've said it's extremly rare for anything to happen, it's like the warning on the tylonal bottle that warns of death... it's rare, but it's there... just like one in a bajillion chance lol.

most people can't see you when you astral project, most likley they will see a sleeping person or one that is stairing off into space. Usualy only thoes that are VERY good at seeing auras can see someone that has astral projected, so no worries about somebody seeing you ^_^
