Vampire Fair is a story about a Vampire and a Fairy that fall in love. The setting is an ancient Irish manor house set on a beautiful secluded inlet surrounded by deep forest. This is how they met, fell in love and then dealt with such a star crossed romance.

Iyana of the Azure Inlet has been the magical protector of the McSeamus family for centuries.
When the first Laird McSeamus settled and built his home on the rocky shore of the inlet he soon encountered the lovely maiden of the waves.
An agreement was struck and a binding oath was made.
As long as the inlet remained pure, Iyana would watch and protect the family.
As a reminder of the oath and promises, and as the final seal of the pact a mermaid would be added to the McSeamus coat of arms. Centuries passed, the oath became history, history became legend. Then legend became myth. No one believed in the mermaid. No one except one boy.

Damien Shino was born to the the last heir of the McSeamus title. Born to Lady McSeamus and her husband. The young heiress had met a handsome young foreigner as she had travelled the continent, the wandering younger son of a Japanese Noble. At first intrigued by each other they began traveling together as they toured Europe they had fallen in love, she brought him home and soon they were married, eventually having one child, a boy they named Damien.

At the age of five young Damien eluded his nanny and clambered down to the rocky shoreline on a late summer afternoon. He was determined to catch some of the crabs that scuttled around the rock, but as he reached for one he fell into the purling surf and was pulled out by the undertow.

Iyana had been watching from the depths, ever faithful to her sworn oath. Quickly she rescued the small boy and returned him to the land.
Smiling into his wide eyes reassuringly as she smoothed his fair locks, "You must be more careful little one."
Then she had turned to leave but was stopped when little boy asked in wonderment. "Who are you?"
"I am Iyana, the mermaid of the crest, I protect."
His nanny's voice called frantically in the distance. "DAMIEN!!!! DAMIEN!!!!"
"I will watch over you.., Damien. Remember our oathbond, as long as the inlet remains pure." Then Iyana kissed his forehead turned and dove in to the inlet her pink violet tail vanished just beofre the nanny found him.
When Damien tried to tell her what happened the nanny didn't believe him. Putting it down as a mere child's fantasy. No one beleived him but he knew it was real and never forgot the lovely mermaid and her soft kiss.

For good or ill Iyana had captivated Damien. As he grew older he began to study the family history, lore and legends. He would spend summer days watching the inlet or sailing on it, always searching for another glimpse of her. Sometimes he thought he saw her, but could never get close enough before she vanished into the depths.
His obsession grew and changed, he began studying all the ancient tales and myths.
Then he was sent ot boarding school and later attended Oxford. While at school he tried vainly to convince himself that the rescue had been a dream. But deep in his heart he still saw her lovely face and felt her soft lips.
Eventually he graduated with degrees in history, literature and mythological cultural studies.
He returned home to find changes in the Azure inlet. the water had lost its clarity. The old boat dock where the sailboat and fishing dingy had always been moored had been replaced by a larger one where a coal burning yacht was now docked . A faint film of coal dust coverd the once crystaline waves. Damien was unsettled by the sight, the water was no longer pure. He knew it was wrong but he couldn't remember why.

During the next couple years Damien came and went using the manor as a central base as he explored the myths and legends of Ireland. Collecting Irish lore and folktales as a basis for a book he wanted to write. Actually tracing the roots of old legends to the point of hunting down the fabled locations where they supposedly occured. This often had him poking around in old castles and/or their ruins.
This finally led to his downfall, as Damien was pursuing the tale of a infamous blood sucking corrigan, the celtic version of a vampire.
This child of Macha was rumored to have inhabited a castle within a short day's drive of his home. As Damien explored the castle ruins where it had been said to have resided he stumbled across hidden crypt.
With work and detemination the strong young scholar had managed to open and enter it.
This one impulsive act sealed his fate.
The corrigan was no fantasy it was real. Attacking Damien ravenously it's first meal in centuries. Dooming the 25 year old to a life of the living dead.
When Damien recovered he knew what had happened and did the only thing he could do to protect his family, he fled Ireland without explanation and begin to drift from place to place.
Years then decades passed until the heart wrenching the news came that his parents had finally passed away leaving him the new Lord of McSeamus manor.
Damien could finally return to his longed for home.

Iyana was swimming in the Azure Inlet.
Mourning it's changes, the blackdust that came from the new ship was choking the sea life. The inlet was her source of magic and when it was weakened so was her power.
Because of the damage she had been unable to protect the boy from the corrigan. A pearl of sorrow fell from her eye.
Damien.
She still recalled the day she had saved him. The first McSeamus family member she spoken to in over 5 centuries. But then the wide eyed child of such odd beauty and bravery had appeared.
She had blessed him with a kiss of fairy magic.
Hoping he would be the solution to the rift of disbelief that had come between her and her charges.
Iyana knew since then, he had tireless sought reencounter her over the years and sometimes she had let him glimpse her. In a playful game of hide and seek. She had planned eventually to re appear and renew the oathpledge with him when he became the Laird.
But now he was a creature of darkness.

~Standing right behind him however with a knowing smirk in place and long hair flowing in the wind around him was Damien. He had just returned from feeding and had glimpsed the shodowy figure stalking about the woods and followed him. he leaned against a tree and waved a greeting to the newcomer~

"Lo there! Might I be askin' what yer doin here lad? Kinda odd place ta be sight seein."

Iyana sensed the presence of Damien. Her head rose from the water watching his encounter with the stranger. Creature of darkness or not, her course was clear. If he was attacked she was sworn to defend.

~Damien looked over at her and nodded~

"Aye that lass be Iyana. She's the sworn protectoer of these lands. Not o soul gets past er an lives. Now I'd like ta help ya with yer borther but I'm sorry ti say he's passed on. He was me father an I miss im dearly. But as fer as vampires go I be the only one aroun. "
