I might have to play a solo at my school concert in front of like 200 people. I get stage fright really REALLY bad. I mean, so bad I feel sick. Does anyone have suggestions for dealing with stage fright?

Tell your director about it. Depending on where the concert is being held ask him if it's possible for you to get a tour of backstage while no one else is really there and there is no hustle or bustle. Walk around behind stage so you feel more comfortable with it, and then walk around on stage. If you know the place you're likely to be more comfortable playing there. You don't even have to bring your violin with you. Just walk out on stage while there are no people there and see the audience from that view. Give a good look around. Some advice that my director gave me before I played my first solo was to make eye contact with one or two people before going on stage. Not people you know, though, because that can make you more nervous. Look them in the eye, smile, and act like you're playing for them and only them. That way it seems like the crowd you are playing for is much, much smaller. Take a couple deep breaths right before you play. If you watch proffesional ice skaters (like Sasha Cohen or Michelle Kwan) they always take a deep breath right before they begin moving. Also, eat a banana or two about an hour before you go on. That can help calm nerves. If you don't like eating plain bananas make a banana milkshake, but try to hold the sugar.

TarienQuest's banana suggestion is very good.. the potassium in banana's give you energy and i guess you could say confidence... 3nodding
i suggest not listening to the person/people that are ahead of you in the schedual... it only makes you not focus as well on your piece cuz you might be paying too much attention to the other peoples... um... uh... practice earlier in the day and a few minutes before you go on... <--that is of course if you can find a spot where no one will hear you while the rest of the performance is going on... and... take a big breath and try to have some fun with it 3nodding good lucks heart

I wonder if the potassium in bananas help control adrenaline.
