Vulcan sighed heavily as he leaned on the window sill of the throne room. How long had Izuma been gone? He personally had lost track of the time. However long it was, he wished his lord would return soon. For, upon returning, Izuma would be in charge of the fire nation again, not himself. The reconstruction of the nation had begun and was progressing rather quickly. Vulcan was impressed with how willing the villagers were to rebuild their homeland. Even the temple was slowly getting closer to completion, which made him pleased. Still, Vulcan wished it was Izuma supervising it all and not him.

As he continued to stare out the window, he could not help but think about one of his premonitions. Actually, a reoccuring premonition to be more exact, one that has been coming to him every night at midnight since the ball. The premonition has hard to make out, as everything is blurred and moves too fast. The voices are muffled, making it impossible to decipher anything being said. The only things that stand out are a drum beat, a flowing black dress, and a vibrant bright light ending the premonition. What on earth could this mean... he thought to himself, what should I do? He sighed again, letting the wind from the open window blow gently on his face. What does it mean...

Ana hid behind the throne for no apparent reason. She really didn't care about what was and was not allowed. It was quite impossible for her to get into much trouble. She poked her head out at Vulcan. "Is everything going all right? I'm worried that we haven't found the daggers. It is a matter of stolen goods and murder..."

Vulcan slowly straightened, but continued to gaze out the window, "Define 'all right'. If you mean the reconstruction, we are going above and beyond what I thought. As for everything else...I don't know. The mystery of the knives still lingers. No one has any information on them and I can't seem to get a premonition about them. We've sent out spies to try and discover what's going on. Lord Izuma went with them, as you already know." He turned and faced Ana, exhaustion clear on his face. "I only pray they return safely with our answer soon."

Ana touched his shoulder softly. "Let us hope we find the answers...it really isn't knives that concerns me..." She looked out the window. "I don't get it...why would anyone not want even a minute of peace...I knew the peace would be shaky, but...it shattered before it began..." She looked him in the eyes. "You work too hard. Get some rest...the nation won't begrudge you sleep."

"Hatred is a stubborn flame. Easy to start, but long and tedious to extinguish. As for rest..." he gazed back out the window again, "I guess you can say there's lack there of. Ever since the ball, I've been having strange reoccuring dreams. Then, every night at midnight, I receive the same premonition. At first, it was impossible to make any of it out, but as time progresses, the premonitions and dreams become more and more clear."

Ana downcasted her eyes. "I'm sorry...I forgot that you were prone to visions..." She looked at him. "Anything crystal clear yet?"

Vulcan shook his head, "Nothing cystal clea--" His words were interrupted by a young soldier who had suddenly burst into the room.

"Lord Vulcan!" he panted, "Lord Vulcan! Terrible news! One of the villagers was found dead on the outskirts of the city!"

Vulcan raised an eyebrow, "A murder? Murders happen all the time."

The soldier shook his head vigerously, "Not like this, m'lord. It is impossible to identify the body. It almost looks like something feasted on it. Not like an animal. It almost looks...tribal."

All exhausted melted from Vulcan's face and was replaced by his usual stone cold expression. "Take me to the body." The soldier bowed and scurried out the door with Vulcan taking long strides behind him, "Ana, whether you come or not is your choice. We both know that if I told you to stay, you would follow anyway." With that, Vulcan and the soldier left the room.

Ana smiled at him. "Looks like you are getting to know me..." She strolled out behind them. She looked at the soilder with concern. "Any guesses on the age?" She was worried about Niccea's "son."

"We're not too sure," the soldier answered, "We think early 20's."

After a while, the group arrived at the location of the body. A small group of people had gathered, wondering what had happened. Vulcan pushed past the crowd and knelt next to the body. The soldier was right, it almost looked like cannibalism was the victim's fate. A knife was sticking out of the victim's chest. "Is that one of yours, Ana?" Vulcan motioned to the knife.

Ana sighed with relief. It wasn't Imerius. She bent down low to examine the body herself. She tore of the sleeve of her shirt and gently tugged the knife loose and examined it. Sure enough there was the tree with an "M" inscribed in it. It was Niccea's mark. "The knife is one of the lost ones..."

Vulcan remained silent, deep in thought. "Lord Vulcan?" the soldier asked, snapped Vulcan out of his thoughts.

Vulcan stood up, "Just as I thought. I'm positive that's not the last we've seen of those knives." He faced the soldiers, "Prepare the body for a proper burial. And, let it be known that no one is to be out of their houses after dark until we know what's going on." The soldiers nodded their heads with a unison "sir!". "Any word from Lord Izuma?" he asked. The soldiers shook their heads, "Nothing, sir." Vulcan cursed under his breath. Izuma was much better at handling such situatitons than he was...

Ana tugged at Vulcan's sleeve. "Of course even in the day people should not travel alone." She drew her hand to her chin in deep thought. "It would also be a good percation to make sure people lock their doors..." She wrapped the knife in the sleeve and handed it to him. "I suppose you'd want this to show Izuma?" She never alloted anyone titles no matter the circumstance or company. "Either way you should keep it. It is a good weapon." She trotted off to the Niccea's smithy to inform her of the news.

"Perhaps you should be in command and not I," Vulcan said with a hint of humor as he tucked the knife into his robes. Once Ana had left, Vulcan turned to the soldiers, "You heard her. The nation is now under immediate lock-down. Should another murder occur, inform the higher ranks immediately."

"Should we inform the other nations, sir?"

Vulcan shook his head, "Not at this exact moment. I don't want any more blood staining our soil. We shall wait." With a flap from his robes, Vulcan turned and headed back to the fortess to mediate on the situation. I pray Izuma hasn't run into the same problem as us...

((Wow. Talk about brain blockage. And fortess?? Meh. Whatever.))

((fortress))

Ana rushed into the small shop with the lodging above. The original smithy had burned down in the war supposedly...but the shop was actually bigger than before. The shop was already closed. Niccea was abled to gather word from the street easily and sent all her extra help home.

Arriving at the fortress, Vulcan was greeted by several soldiers. "Lord Vulcan! Lord Izuma has returned!"

A slight wave of relief crossed Vulcan's stone face, "Excellent. Let us hope his journey was successful and everyone is alright. And perhaps he knows something connected to the murder."
