Arc sez: Hey guys, I decided to turn this into the side-chatter and organization thread of the RP, just to make it easier and more on-topic. Anyone who wants to join in the RP, post here and/or PM me.

Okay, like everyone else here, I'm a huge Gargoyles fan. I watched the series when I was little and have occasionally watched a few episodes recently. I've always wanted to be a part of a Gargoyles RPG, but I never had the time. Since I'll probably be moving to a place where I'll have little, if any, access to a computer in about six months, I decided that I better get on the ball and try a little harder to get into one. That's when I found this guild. I've been looking for a place like this since I started on Gaia. Anyway, I would really like to begin an RPG, but I would like to work with a few people on determining the rules and stipulations. I play some role-playing games, such as Star Trek, D&D, ShadowRun, and a few of the Vampire variations, so I know how the process works. I also know that online RPGs work a little differently.

Here are a few of the things that I've already considered for the RP.
*Made-up characters as well as those from the show are welcome.
*A thread needs to be made for people to post their character bios ( I still need to figure out all of the info that should be put into the bios. Anyone who'd like to help is more thatn welcome.)
*No god-modding
*You must adhere to the rules. If not then the moderaters will deal with you.

That's about all I can think of for now. Anyway, if you guys want to help me with this then that's great. If not, then I'll drop the idea. For now just plain and simple input would be great. I'll probably be on again on Sunday or Monday, if I'm not on later tonight.

Curses. I lost my post. Take 2.

The big problem I have with fan RPGs is that no one can roleplay characters perfectly. To me, that does no justice to that which we're fans of. I mean, look how the 3rd season came out.

Now, if we would introduce something totally new and irrelevant to Gargoyles to tinker with, I'd be fine. Like going back 1000 years to a different castle altogether than Wyvern.

I think that would be kinda fun. I've DMed before, and prefer Mutants and Masterminds as my system of choice. Because you can be anything you want. Even a Gargoyle.

I agree, I don't think anyone could do the character's justice. I put that in the post because I wasn't sure if anyone else shared my opinion. I also wanted to show that I was open to different things. I was hoping that we could all create our own characters and stay away from those already made. From there we could set up our own scenes and surroundings accordingly. Maybe we should have different areas, like past, present, and future, and play in the time that we feel most comfortable, or just play our characters at different times in their lives. I was kind of wanting to go a little futuristic, but I think I'll just wait and see how everything turns out. Since you've been a DM before, I would much appreciate your help in setting the RP up. I know we need to come up with some rules and decide what should be in the character description. If you want, we can work on a good bit of this over PM. Dunno though...if we post it then that keeps everyone else involved, but at the same time it might be easier over PM. Either way is fine with me.

I plan on beign pretty bored today, so I think I'm going to work on some of the things that should be in character description.

i agree wit hyou that is why i don't take other characters that were already made, we could have this in the future or in the past, before or after goliath's clan and make up our own gargoyles, how we want them, that way there would be no complaints as to how anyone is rping their characters, i have done this before it was a sucess till the board went kaput *growls at digital* some ....freak took it over and banned everyone sad

Sure, I'll help set things up - but I have to admit I have little patience for god modders and the like. I have some questions, though, as to just how we want to run the RPG. I have really yet to see a forum RP truly take hold and be fun for everyone, so I'm hesitant on just how powerful the player-authors are in terms of storyline management.

I've been itching to get an MnM game going, so the closer the RPG is to pen and paper, the happier I'll be. I'll be rather busy today until I get back to State later tonight, but I think this could be quite fun when done right.

Honestly, I think the best way to deal with god modders is the same way that this one guy I game with does. He'll warn the person a few times and then he'll bust out one of his invincible characters, or god himself, and kill that person's character, in which instance he rolls one di and then says the infamous words "Create a new character". After a few characters go down the drain for stupidity, the person either learns the lesson or quits playing. I also feel that the characters should be PMed to one of us, or both of us preferably, so that it can be checked over, you know, stop the maddness before it begins. Then the character bios can be posted in the thread that will be made for them.

The first thing we need to decide, is who will be in charge of the RP. For now, I think it should be myself and Arcadian since we've been doing most of the scheming. Though everyone else is more than welcome to give us your input.
The next thing we need to think about is the type of RP this should be. I think a free-for-all setting would probably be best. All races, all careers, all technology. I know that seems to be a bit much, but that's just my input because I'm a bit clueless on this part. I also say that because my character is a little on the unique side as far as her exact race is concerned. In fact, I'll probably PM you her bio later on so that you can see what I plan on doing.
I think the next thing we think about should the RP rules themselves. First and foremost, NO GOD MODDING. Second, you must listen to those in charge of the RP or...you will be kicked out or ignored or something (I could use some help with this part).
Okay, I'm cheating a little. I just checked out some of the rules that other RP's have and I'm stealing some of theirs. I'll put more detail into these later.
*Do not post other characters reactions
*No spam
*Out of Character, or OOC must be written in ((parenthesis))
*Do not use one-line posts. Occasionally it will be tolerated, but if it is consistant then you will be worned to stop.
*Put your posts in sentence and paragraph form, using correct spelling and punctuation and best you can. Use proper grammer as well. NO internet slang.
*Create a character bio, giving all the information required. PM it to Arcadian and I and we'll discuss it and let you know if your character is accepted.
*NO cybering
*Cussing is allowed, just don't go overboard.
*RP in third person.
That's about all I could put together.

Here's what I have for the character bios. We can eliminate some of the info if need be, but I was extremely bored when I worte all this up.
Name: Give your character's name, alias', and/or nicknames.
Age: How old your character actually is and how old they look
Gender: male or female
Species: self explanatory
Turn to stone: (if your a garg or part garg) yes or no
Origin: Where is your char. from
Occupation: what's their job
Alignment: good, evil, neutral, chaotic, etc.
Geneology: whose their parents
Appearence: This should include height, weight, hair, eyes, skin, wings, tail(if it has unique features), and clothes
Personality: How does you char. act
History: what is you character's past
Pets: self explanatory
Expertise: what is your character best at
Skills: both physican and supernatural
Enemies: any past rivals
Weapons: self explanatory
Flaws: what are your character's weaknesses, you must have at least two
Other: anything else

I do plan on rearanging things so that they are in a more practical order. Once we get the details worked out I'll open up a thread for character bios and post mine as an example. I'll also have a more organized version of the char. bio requirements that I'll post. That's all I've got for now.

domokun Argh Alignments and crazy racial hybrids! scream

One of my favorite characters I've ever roleplayed was a plain ordinary human; I am very quick to dismiss characters of needless racial qualities. No offense, Ramel.

If anyone would rather create a character sheet using a Pen and Paper system, instead of a lengthy and revealing bio on their character, I would be more than willing to help with that. Knowing all about a character takes away the fun of getting to know them.

More importantly, now, I believe we need to decide on a setting. I'll ponder it during class. Along with my own character. *begins to scribble*

Hmmm...cutting the bios would be a big relief. I do find a few problems with that idea though. First off, people may not give their characters weaknesses or flaws, thus leading to god modding. Secondly, they may also try to give their character the best of everything. Just got an idea, maybe we should do like in an actual RP. Show our characters to a DM and get them approved. We can still keep our characters in the shadows, but the DM(s) will have a copy so that no one can pull anything. Dunno though, it's just an idea.

As far as setting goes, I'm still partial to the idea of having different time periods. Thanks to having played nothing but Shadow Run for about six months, I've taken a liking to a futuristic realm. Guess it's about time though, every other game I've played has been set in ancient times. We could set up different forums for each time. From there the characters could interact as they saw fit. The forums on Gaia aren't really set up for putting different scenes in different time. I wish they were more like the forums on AvidGamers.

The other thing I was thinking about was character pictures. I'm kind of into art and usually do a sketch of my characters. I have a huge workload right now, so I won't be able to draw anyone else's characters for a few months, but I may do commissions...eventually xd Anyway, if others make sketches, I think we should consider making a place to put them. That probably won't be for a while. Seems like we're about the only ones here right now. Oh well, I'm sure more will come.

I'm one step ahead of you for the chara pic. Now all i need is everything else! xd

I think this would be great! I've been pretty busy with work lately so I'm not sure I could participate, but it'd be great to have! biggrin

domokun Domo eats Godmodders for breakfast.

As I said, I'm all for helping people out with character sheets. Later tonight I'll post the character I'll be using, and explain what each of the numbers and stuff means for people who've never played a D20 PnP roleplay before. But before then I'm going to shower.

As for multiple timelines/games, I'm only going to focus on one. Spreading out your attention across multiple characters just never sat right with me. I'm very passionate about the entities I create and I want them to flourish as best as possible.

Okay... I need another day on my own character sheet. And I think I have a good idea for a setting, but I need to do some research. Actually I need to do research on both accounts.

If anyone could answer these questions, I would be greatful.

Can Gargoyles see in the dark?
Just how sharp are their claws?
Can they get sick or poisoned?

Miscellaneous tidbits of just how strong they are and how tough they are would help too, like "the biggest thing I've seen Brooklyn throw was a motorcycle" or something. Because I haven't seen the series in so long, I don't really remember just how strong they are. Can they be cut with a knife? Agh >_<

As far as your questions, Arcadian, it is to my knowledge that gargoyles can be cut be knives. I would think that they'd be able to see fairly well at night since they are nocturnal creatures. From what I've seen their claws are very sturdy. They can make pretty decent scratches on steel and can be put through stone. Since sleeping gas affects them then I would also assume that they are vulnerable to poisons, though I'm not sure about sicknesses. Also remember that they can heal from most woulds over the course of a sleep, if they turn to stone.

I agree on focusing on one timeline. I plan on doing the same with my character...it's just that I would like to do so in a futuristic setting. This also gives a bit of leeway it someone wants to time travel or isn't happy with having only one timeline or another. I'm just trying to avoid conflicts that my pop up later on.

I wanted to ask, are you coming up with a species stats...whatever it's called(sorry, my mind isn't awake yet sweatdrop )? If you are then that'll be great. I was just thinking the other night as to what the species modifiers might be. I have my dice at my boyfriends, but I can get them by tomorrow, well, if I need to. I was wanting to play a gargoyle in an RP with some of my friends, but I know the DM will want species info. So if I had the stats then I could be lazy and just hand him a paper with everything put together. But if you're not working on that then don't worry about it.

ARCADIAN!!! You'll never guess what I found. I was really bored and was looking around and I found a detailed description of gargoyles! Here's the link Gargoyle Info. I think this should answer every question you have. It might be beneficial for everyone else to take a look at this info as well. Enjoy!

Can they get sick or poisoned?

I'm pretty sure they can be poisoned. There was one episode where goliath was hit with a dart, and i think it was poisoned. I can't exactly remember though since it was a while ago. I know they can be sedated though, if that helps.
