Monster Assessment: The Parasite

It was dusk, a navy ship had pulled into the harbour of Diamont, a newly built mining town, named after the newly discovered element, offshore from America. There were three crewmen on the ship, unloading high-tech mining machinery for the nearby Diamont mine. The Naval team had been sent with the additional objective of retrieving technology from a transport ship that had been sunk one month ago and for some reason had returned to the surface. The team had stopped at Diamont to deliver their cargo before setting of back home to America.

It was a vicious winters evening the wind, howled as it flew past my ears. Me and my Naval team had finished delivering our cargo: Max a ‘gung ho’ man whom let no one stop him in his path
; Colin a young cadet whom had yet to learn the ropes to become a sea man, very quiet and shy; Finally there was me Alex, I can’t describe myself very well except that I was always relaxed. The only time I can remember when I lost my cool was a while ago when we found the lost Navy ship, we found something there. we refer to it as “It”. HQ had given us the order to send it back with us for “experimentation”, the reason being It had been discovered it was on dry desert land it now had a small tail.

“This is great we could get medals for this” exclaimed Colin. “I wouldn’t count your Chickens before they hatch Colin we have to keep that thing under close supervision other wise it’ll escape” Max replied. I emerged from the boat. “Colin it’s your turn to keep watch now okay” I asked. Colin immediately responded “yes sir”. I had been out a minute when a girl of medium sized height, attractive features, strawberry blonde hair and pale white skin approached me.
“Are you part of this ship team?” she asked inquisitively. “Yes I am” I answered. “Then I would like to thank you on behalf of my Father the man who runs the mines here for bringing the machinery here. My name is Anna and you will be staying with me tonight”. She replied. The conversation was soon interrupted as a large deep hiss disturbed us all quickly headed of by a scream from Colin. Colin came running out with “It” on his arm. It had a fish tail, but also five long legs, a sucker type mouth dangling from him and it had many eyes spread around his scaly body, its eyes were pale white. Colin with “It” biting him quickly pulled him of and threw him down. “It” ran away and fell in the ocean. Despite the insects tail it was unable to swim and just pathetically just floated there. All Colin had to do was pick the feeble beast up.

That night I went to bed at Anna’s house. I was worried we had put the creature back inside an Insect observatory. I was worried if it could break out once it could do it again. I still did not know whether it was dangerous or not. It is possible that whatever it was could have caused the ship accident. There was no trace of the crew left all of the ship that remained was the equipment and the ship. I was unable to sleep that night my thoughts plagued me, what is it, how did it survive it cant swim. I was unable to find a answer for all these questions. Everything contradicted itself in some way or another. The longer and longer the night went on it realised how insecure the ship was how the town might pay for our foolishness. What was the thing capable of? What would it do to us? I looked at how I could be held responsible for this disaster. The shame I would bring to myself. The pain that could happen.
All because of me. I was awoken by a loud shout.
“That thing attacked Colin we have to go and look for it now” roared Max. “What’s the big deal we can look in the morning” I sleepily replied despite what I thought. “That thing is now four times as big as it was earlier.”

After that we began a drastic search for the arachnid beast Anna followed. It was two hours I searched until I heard a blood curdling scream from an undertaker’s house. I entered scanned the room only to find corpses waiting to be buried. I heard a noise coming from outside. I stepped out worryingly to find the undertaker with a huge hole in his arm. I was afraid I felt numb I had goose pimples and my knees were shaking. There was an empty grave. I heard a heaving noise. I lost all but a once of my courage. I mustered my strength. I looked in the grave to find a corpse with a large hole in its chest. I could see Its eyes in the hole, there was another hole lager than the other in its eye socket with Its leg sticking out. Its body heaving, groaning. I stumbled backwards. Before I could even stand up I saw a purple hand rise above the ground. The thing hoisted itself up onto the ground. It then limped towards me. Its skin was rotting and from when it got up changed from green to purple and then clumped together like old bark on a tree. A few seconds later the air was filled with a putrefying, rancid smell. The thing fell the corpses muscles fell off. The thing started to heave again. I backed away. It reared up again it held its claw up high ready for the final blow. ‘I was doomed….. My life flashed before my eyes.
