In this thread you may post about your path, as well as when and why you converted from whatever path you used to follow [if you converted].
Please do not create threads for this purpose anymore. Thanks.
(We used to have many a thread created for this purpose, hence this one's creation.)

I am an eclectic pagan, I have been for about eight or so years, but I am really behind in my practices due to "ADDness" and not knowing how to get over that. And of course boyfriends. But I am back to my old ways and starting up again, with inspiration from this and one other guild. I was never really a religious person so taking on a new religion was easy for me, it was a matter of being attracted to a random book on a shelf in my local Barnes and Nobles. And that was that.

Well, I haven't posted here in a while x.x
Anyway, it's been a good year since I became Wiccan. I have incorparated many sects of Wicca to tune it to my beliefs. I didn't know about Wicca and paganism at first. I just knew that Catholicism wasn't for me any more. It didn't appeal to me. I did some searching on other religions, and landed on paganism. I branched farther and found Wicca. I then branched into the sects, and picked and chose from those. But I also accepted beliefs of some other religions, and I also incorparated those into my beleifs.

-Fatal Desires- But I also accepted beliefs of some other religions, and I also incorparated those into my beleifs. May I point out that you are not, then, Wiccan? Wicca is a set faith. Its kinda the catholicism of christianity, if you'll pardon the comparison. You can't decide while catholic that you dont believe the eucharist is the body of christ. Then you're no longer catholic. What you are, my friend, is an ecelectic. Ecelectic Pagan to be percise.

New to the guild here, hello all smile
I suppose the best description for my beliefs and life-choices would be hedgewitch, although 'witch' seems to me to imply a lot more use of magic than I actually do. It sure helps that I live in a very rural community, and I have many places to go that are basically wilderness. On the other hand, there are many, many, many chances for conflict between nature and humans, where I live. I find I tend to end up doing a lot of education of people regarding what they read in a book or heard, and the reality of wild animals (and even domestic animals).

I was a first christen "sighs" just like everyone else in America at about eight I was sent to bible camp didn't really care I was half atheist then after a month a full atheist..... Three years later I got onto the discussion of religion with my brother and three friends well playing a very old SNES, and he mentioned he was Wiccan. This was a curiosity because I never heard about it he mentioned the goddess and the god so I decided to check it out later. I later found out his girlfriend was Wiccan too I thought cool
and then I researched it.... I first typed in Wicca and checked out some of the sites then witchcraft and their sites than eventually to druidisms then voodoo then the Greek pantheon (of all four I worship) and now I am eclectic fairly new in contrast but knowledgeable anyway I hold my religions as sacred and wish that the fundamentalists in my school would find out what a witch shaman or whatever you will call it on the qoutes in the other forum I found this was good Its your hell you burn in it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its actually interesting how much catholicism is so much like paganism. And actually, a lot of traditional pagans (at least in the times where being pagan was not widely accepted) used the catholic church as their source of worship. Why? Because think about it. Mother, Father, Son. Their Saints are almost directly descended from the gods (like Brid, and Morrigan). What a great place to hide? Right in the heart of the church.

I'm eclectic pagan and I was given religious freedom as a child. I studied my path at the age of 12 and have been following it ever since. 10 nearly 11 years now.

I, too, started out Christian, but I was Baptist. So I wasn't technically Christian because I was never baptized. Go figure. In any case, I walked away from it when I was 8 or 9. I just couldn't take the bull that they were forcing down my throat.
"You have to do such and such for such and such and such reason."
It was ideologically unsound given that supposedly God's gift to humans was free will. If that's true, then Christianity was effectively taking that freedom away via brainwashing. Plus I always had a love for nature and I was already learning that the dogma of Christianity didn't fit with reality. From then until I reached high school, I learned and reflected from nature.
It was in high school that I found the Wiccan book and started researching from there. There were several years that I went back and forth. My entire family is Baptist and I struggled over calling myself Wiccan. The rules and rituals felt too much like the dogma I had walked away from. After more research, I found books that were closer to what I already believed as far as magic was concerned. Religion wise, I have none. I follow the sabbats simply because they correspond with my area's agricultural cycle. And my family on both sides is agriculturally based, though everyone's urbanized now.
But I call myself an eclectic witch because I've pulled a lot of beliefs from eastern religions (long before I researched Wicca).
Long post, but it was long process, too.

It has been two years exactly since I first spoke of my path, I am here to make an update or two. I am still eclectic, however my special brand of eclectic that I have developed over the years of reading and watching humans and nature has changed over these past two years of great influence. I believe in the energy of the earth, not the will of a god or bundle of gods. I believe in my influence on energy and the influence of energy on me. I believe in the mind and its strength and ability to accomplish amazing things. I believe that you are the only one responsible for your own happiness, if you are unhappy, do something about it. I believe that we as humans in any society are affected by false idols, information, and wills. By wills I mean other people's will, the selfish expectations put upon us by others with only their own needs guiding their actions and words. Only you can free yourself from these negative energies, and its the best thing you could do for yourself as a living growing individual of free will.
My explanation sounds negative, but my religion is actually quite a positive experience. My religion is freedom of the mind and I call it Wenkeism

I'm definitely an eclectic pagan.
Originally, I was raised in a Christian household, but everyone in my immediate family is Christian in the loosest sense of the term. When I made it known I was a practicing pagan, I'm very fortunate and lucky to claim that my family accepted it with open minds and hearts. Relatives outside of my immediate family don't know, but that's mostly because I feel it's none of their business.
When I hit middle-school, I started to question my spirituality. While I have nothing against Christians, the religion just didn't fit well with me. One of my friends, studying Wicca at the time, introduced me to it. For many years I practiced that until I hit college. When I hit college, I began to realize that my belief structure was more pagan than wiccan, so I've been calling myself an eclectic pagan ever since, as it seems to fit me best if I had to categorize my belief system. I studied under a priestess for a short time during college. Unfortunately, when I graduated and moved back up to New York State, I lost all contact with her and haven't been able to get in touch with her since. sad
I'm currently studying religion practices and magic practices of Ancient Egypt. It's fascinating, but a very slow process, as the belief system is unlike any I've encountered before. There is no set pantheon and there are different stories for different gods and goddesses based on whichever god or goddess you consider the "head god/goddess" eek Of course, that doesn't really matter anyway, considering all the gods/goddesses are considered the head depending on whichever one is being focused on at the time. sweatdrop
