Discuss: Weird instances you have encountered anywhere
here are my top ones:
This girl in my club I can hear screaming at almost every touch all the way across the room in tournaments
This other guy (whom I just saw, dont know) was angry at the last touch even though it was clearly not his right of way. He took his mask off beat his chest and snorted at the score box
One day, every guy I fenced I hit in the crotch at least once, so speaking of which, obviously the guys at my club dont wear cups(although someone I heard from somewhere else lost one of his balls) do you?

>.<; I used to yell a lot when I fenced. Sometimes it was just anger release lol^^; Other times, I was just really into the bout. Hmm... I once saw some of the coaches (who were fencing, I might add), get in a fight on the strip. O.o It was.. interesting. Not much more than that though.

heh, an old coach i trained under taught us to scream and did drills to be louder. Yeah, it can be a d**k thing to do, but its fun to an extent. Besides, in Martial Arts, they were trained to yel 'Ciai'(i think that's the right spelling) while striking to unify the body and mind into the attack. Some coaches teach the same thing. as for me, some days i scream, others i'm silent

As has already been pointed out there is the example of the martial arts "kiai" to focus the mind, also some people just use it to psych themselves up or their opponent out, dirty pool in my opinion but it is what it is. As for me, I'm all snarls on the fencing strip, just a part of my natural aggressive streak showing though...

Am I the only guy here who actually wears the cup? xp There were too many low shanking girls in my club, so yeah, the "athletic supporter" (as the box calls it) became a self-requirement for me. biggrin As far as the scream fest goes, I know quite alot of people who do that and in my opinion it just sort of takes away from its effectiveness to overuse. I will admit, I've been known to make a war cry (a loud one at that and let's just say, in general im not a loud guy) in terms to get a reaction out of my opponent, but I only do that at most, once per tournament, if even that. I tend to stay quiet on strip and my aggressiveness varies between who i'm fencing off with (aggression only works on certain people, and full defensive-reposting tends to work well against all the others).
As far as a weird instance that i've encountered goes.. well there was this one guy I was fencing off with in foil that ended up sweating so much that whenever I hit off target on his bib and mask, the score box would set off saying I scored a point. It was really funny at the time. razz

YARR! I GOT A TOUCH!!!
i hate it when people yell. Makes you wanna shout back at 'em. You should only yell to express something like "ow that really hurt" or swearing at them in your own made up language. Or at least that's what i do. What do YOU yell at your opponents?
actually i don't yell. It's obnoxious.

one time me and my coach were watching a saberist bout at a tournament because my friend was in it, and my friend won, YAY! but lets just say the other guy wasnt so happy. he ripped his mask and threw it to the ground and then threw his saber too. the saber wizzed by my coach's face literally missing her by a hair. As for noises, no one on my fencing actually does noises, i sometimes hum to myself quietly during a bout though, which sounds wierd but if it is a load fast tune then its not actually that bad.

I will confess to shouting when I make a touch... But I can't help it, it's exhilarating.
One thing that just annoys me is when, typically foil, fencers touch and just do this...spinning thing. They just move their top half as if they were spinning. It's just something I hate for some reason.

oh god. that shouting after every point is SO annoying!! However, it does make we want to beat the loser even more ! Mwhahaha! and, yeah, I think that almost every female fencer has at some point hit their male opponent in the balls! lol!
