When I was younger, I loved the old Nick shows. I still do, but now I see a lot of adult material in them. Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy have new things in there for me to catch.

So, we all know about adult themes in Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko's Modern Life. But, what about the other shows? For some reason, I swear that Doug had some adult references, but I can't remember what they were.

The only one I remember that wasn't from Rocko's Modern Life or Ren & Stimpy is one from Salute Your Shorts. Donkeylips is in a public restroom, and you hear him say, "Hey, look! This machine sells balloons!"

I would love to hear other references from other shows. Most people know about Rocko and Ren & Stimpy, so I'm looking for other shows.

There's definitely an adult theme in the "Doug's on His Own" episode - a scene mirrors one from Risky Business, the one in which Tom Cruise dances in his underwear around the house. Considering the kind of business that goes on in the movie, I'd consider the dancing a reference.

Hmm...you are right, manilow. I know that there are more adult references in Doug, but everytime I try to put my finger on one, they all disappear. confused The next best example I've got is the "Doug's Babysitter" episode - Judy sneaks out to a rendez-vous at the movies. Not extremely "adult," in my opinion.

As for the other shows...I'm gonna have to keep thinking for that one. sweatdrop Sad for sure.

Rocko didn't marry him because he was gay. he just married him because he was really desperate to stay in the country. Filburt was very feminine in that episode though.

Yeah, Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life had a ton of innuendo. That's why I've said it would be easiet to list references that weren't from those two shows. There are long lists of Rocko's Modern Life innuendo. Possibly Ren & Stimpy too, but I haven't searched.

Yeah, you're right. (Even though it isn't old-school Nick.)

Fairly Oddparents has a lot of that stuff too. (Like how Timmy's Dad acts really girly; and other stuff.)

Back in our day adult themes in cartoons were ok. We knew they weren't real, and we certainly knew that they were just cartoons. With all the things that go on in today's world people have to be very careful about what goes into a cartoon. Kids are watching too much TV and losing touch with reality.

I soo remeber watching that one xD

For others I think Ren and Stimpy
really stood out for that mainly because
the show came from MTV.

Rocko and Doug has tons also.

But shows like Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude!
and Pete and Pete are much more too have
adult content in it cause it was pointed
toward an older aud.

Thou it is really silly cause I can
not think of any at all right now.
Its soo silly too cause I use too know a bunch that
had that content too it.
Hmm I will have too think about it XD

There was that episode of Rocko where he's looking for a job after getting fired from Kind of a Lot of Comics, and he applies for an ad.

The next scene, he's talking on the phone, in a monotone, "Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby," reading off a script.

Mrs. Bighead says, "Rocko?!?" and both slam down the phone.

Heh heh...phone sex.
