Alice 19th by YĆ» Watase Genre: Magical Girl/Shojo Rating: Older Teens Intro: The main character of this book is Alice Seno, she's very timid and shy, with a seemingly perfect older sister, Mayura. But one day alice rescuses a strange rabbit from the center of a busy intersection, which she soon learns is a magical rabbit girl named Nyozeka, who was sent to find the lotis masters. Nyozeka helps her find the courage within her, and the hidden strength she has.
Mayura's boyfriend kyo is the object of Alice's affections, and when she gets in a fight with Mayura over him, she unleashes the power of darkness in her words, casting Mayura away, where she becomes under control of Darva, dark mistress of he Maram Words. Mayura is vunerable to being devoured by Darva, unless they can stop the jealousy and hatred inside her. When Mayura and Darva start hurting Alice and Kyo, and who they hold close to them, they must rescue each other from the pain and suffering in thier own hearts.
The Upside: I think the artwork in these books is beautiful, one of the reasons I really enjoyed reading them. There are also many really emotional parts in this book, which make you really get into the story and relate to the characters. They also have characters from different places, so they're all not japanese, which gives the book a little diversity.
The Downside: Well, some parts of the book are kinda overdone, like the whole, say a word and use your magical powers thing. By saying the lotus words, they kinda have magic powers, and that kinda seems a little cheesy to me sweatdrop

It kind of sounds like a spin off of Alice in Wonderland to me... but I guess I'll have to wait until I read it to be sure.

Thanks for writing the review. ^_^
I have tried reading Alice 19th and well... ^^;; not for me. I'm not usually a fan of Yuu Watase's major works. Too much of an emotional rollercoaster for me (e.g. Fushigi Yuugi / Ayashi no Ceres).
