All right, this is for those you have seen Eikoden. Did you like it, or hate it?
My opinion: I for one did not like it. At all. I think the computer generation mixed with the drawings looked terrible. The plot line made me angry, just because the character Mayo was so evil, despite her young age? What highschool girl is crazy enough to steal a baby and use it against the teacher they are infatuated with?
I was told that Yu Watase did not even write Eikoden, and I believe it because it's so terrible.
So, what do you think?
*Addition* By the way, I forgot to click the button to add the 'It's better than sliced bread!', so I'm afraid it's not on there, please just put 'It's okay' if you liked it. I apologize to all of those who do think it's better than sliced bread and weren't allowed to poll it.

Hey! That's a biased poll >o< I really liked it, actually. Can't you have an option for that? I mean, sure Miaka wasn't the main character.. but it's used to refer to how poor Mayo is jealous.. after all, she just wants to be loved! She's not, like, evil, really.. she was manipulated and misunderstood... though I couldn't stand the horribly fast-paced timing.. it could've been a real, long story arch... the same happened with the OAV, too >< It's all fan-service, though, in the end...
And it's true that Watase-sensei didn't write it, yes. But that's just because she's a manga-ka, not an author. She helped in the planning, but the original novel was written by the same woman who wrote all of the Fushigi Yuugi gaiden, awll of which were approved by Watase-sensei, and all of which are subject to be animated any time that Studio Pierrot feels like making them, though I doubt most of them will be made *even if they're really good novels* Besides, you can't expect Watase-sensei to go crazy with the whole writing thing.. everyone needs a break, and now she's back on duty with another FUshigi Yuugi themed manga anyways, ne?

the only reason I have it is because it came as a part of the eBay auction that I got my DVD sets of Fushigi Yugi through. sweatdrop

It's not great, but it's not awful. I did like the reincarnation bit (they were all so kawaii!) and the part where Houki told her history (Houki is one of my favorite characters) but the Mayo thing came off a lot like Mary Sue-ism. Also, the actual plot (*spoiler*the false gods*/spoiler*) was kind of contrived and too easily defeated. It could have been done better, but I'm not upset or angry that it was done at all.
PS: Talon-san, I love your sig, and I know I've heard it before. What's it from?

Well, did you read the booklet that came with the DVD? That's what she's supposed to be like. Eikoden was made in response to how so many people wrote wishing they could go into the Universe of the Four Gods... and so they made some random mary Sue-ish character go, because it was supposed to focus on an ordinary person. She isn't a priestess or a seishi or anything, just a normal girl, one who wanted to have her take of the action, one who felt left out due to her ordinary-ness.. she she was so easily tricked because she wanted to be a real priestess and all.. she really wanted to be that way in a sense.. wow, I went off on a tangent ^^;;

I apologize for screwing up the poll, it was so supposed to have five choices, the fifth one being 'I love it!' I can't figure out how to fix it, so I'm really sorry about that! stressed
I really love the gaidens though, Genrouden was great, and I hope they animate it...just not with computer generation and stuff. xp

Oh, it's okay, if it was an accident.. I wasn't all that mad in the first place ^^;; In any case, you have to click "add option" or whatever, and, even though it looks like there's an extra.. erm.. yeah... it's hard to explain, but it makes sense, in a weird way...

Yeah, I did that with the other ones...but I didn't do it with the last one...and I went to edit it and fix, but I don't think you can edit polls because the little poll maker thing wasn't at the bottom of my edit page! Arg!

In my personal opinion the Eikoden storyline was seriously lacking and far too cliche, very little thought was put into its design nor into the scripting, I even agree that the computer animation combined with the anime sequences was dismal.
I know they were trying to distinguish between said battles and said deities and the differences between those however I disliked the obsessive nature of Mayo, it went TOO far for my tastes, for example...even Yui drew the line somewhere but Mayo was pathetic.
Maybe I'm just mean though.

The thing is.. I really realted to Yui-chan.. but I also related to Mayo... Though I often speak like I'm confident, I'm not so strong willed at all... I would easily have been tricked into that.. that is, if I loved Taka... but I don't.. so.. yeah ^^;; In fact, I can't stand the guy at all

i happened to like it, thank you! stare sure the animation wasn't all that good because of the CG/drawing not mingling well, but it was a good story line, and one i happen to use as a basis for my own RPG where MY personal character is Hikari, the baby that was born right after the series. *mutters* besides, Watase Yuu did OVERSEE the making of Eikoden, or so i'm told, she just didn't do the majority of the work like she usually does, but she did approve of it as it IS part of her idea of how the series was supposed to go.

On the Cute-o-Meter, it scored about a 9.9 (baby Mitsukake was so adorable!). But in every other category...
Don't get me wrong though. I did like the fact that Miaka was only in it for about five minutes, and there was tons of Chichiri/Tasuki goodness (though I wanted Chichiri to have a bigger part... heh, but don't I always? ^^; ). I've seen worse anime. It wasn't bad, and I'd watch it again. But compared to the rest of the series, it was a bit below par.
Now I'm just waiting for them to turn "Shouryuu Den," "Genrou Den," and "Sanbou Den" into some OVA series... *practically drools at the thought*
Not to mention the Genbu Manga... I assume everyone else had heard about those as well? xd

I have a link to a site where you can download the first three parts in English, if anyone's interested. Also, if anyone knows where online I can find the other novels (in Japanese, English or French), I'd love to know!
