Okay the point of this topic is simple: Give in depth details about cultures/governments in your stories. Maybe include how they make their law or elect their leaders, etc, etc. Also telling how the country is in the opinion of other countries compred to the country's own opinions about itself. I'll post mine after I type it up on Word.

I've actually never thought too much about this type of thing. I don't know if I've ever gotten far enough or was old enough to think too much about it.
However, with my new idea, I'm planning on going a bit deeper into it. It's still in the early stages, but once I get it all together, I'll post.

Well, mostly I dont mess with the government. They are jsut some omnipresent thing that oversees and doesnt really interfere. In one, however, my government is utterly obsessed with technological advancements, even at the cost of environment and people. They try ot make this better by replacign nature with better, more technologically advanced things. There is still a congress, a presidancy...they jsut have much more power over their people and resourses. A little bit more monarchy-like, very elitist.
The other government I have is very similar, except they want to advance mankind, like some sort of new model of airplane or navy vessle. We're a weapon to be used and exploited to the fullest, and absolutely something to be proud of. If that means the weaker ones have to die, then so be it. If there must be war, so be it, a better way to remove those who are to weak to be part of the human race. In this one, there is a president as well, basically a puppet for congress. He has zero power, and just puts an attractive face on a decision. People questiont he government all the time, but because everything seems to function, no one bothers to speak up.

Maybe you could better develope them even if they aren't actual mentioned in depth in your story and see if the affect your story in any indirect way.

...I dont want them to have an effect on my story unless they are directly involved in the plot. There is no real point in developing and writing about somethignt hat has litterally no bearing on my characters and their existance.

Okay, everybody get comfy now, yeah? *deep breath* Okay. This would be easier if I had a chart. But oh well. I don't wanna do that right now. Or my math homework. But shhh... In my happy little fantasy world, most of the inhabitants are former human beings that are now spirits that can change into various animals (i.e., the king's right hand men are both dragons, one of the queen's ladies in waiting is a wolf, etc.). So. Basically, this is a sovreigncy in this world. The king is Jonathan, and he can't morph into any animal, but he tried to fight nature by making himself perfect and was condemned to live his life as, quite literally, a walking zombie (anyone who wants details on that PM me, okay?). So, King Jonathan was sent to this world when he finally died. This world was in the midst of a horrible war, and he rose up to become a hero and so he took the throne from the previous king. An colony of beings called Night Things saw his strength and feared it, so they married him off to their eldest daughter, Narcissa, in exchange for peace between them. Narcissa had a daughter, Alican, from a previous marriage, but her husband was killed in the fighting so Alican became the princess of this world. So. The king has two right hand men (Shawn and Ren, the dragons). They handle all public affairs and stuff 'cause the king isn't exactly a people person OR all that great to look at, and generally keep the king safe. The queen's ladies in waiting are Alecks (the wolf) and Melissa (a giant lizard thing). The ladies in waiting help the queen with her dresses and stuff and protect her from anything that might harm her. And the princess has two body guards, Meth and Grid (both tigers) and a maid/nanny type person, Sandrinne (a turtle). So, basically, there' s a bunch of floating islands that are all close together and that's what the king rules over. Then there are a few rouge islands that pirates and banished people live on that are outside of the king's jurisdiction. And. ... Uh, there's a lot more. But I haven't mapped it all out yet and I haven't really thought it through to the point of no return. So...yeah... sweatdrop

Okay, here are two of my governments (they are pretty much the same). The law makers, the major judical cases, and every major thing is decided by twelve or forty people (twelve for Yoan, forty for Grutian). The result is usually chaotic, but they came up with clever ways of helping that (not that it worked Yoan). For one, for the lesser forms of everything, they hired people to decide for them. Grutian also made a huge trading system. Yoan did trade, but only with Grutian. Both have law enforcement and military (Grutian Choli (Space Force) is one of the best). The reason why they are so similar (to a degree) is because Yoan use to be a sort of state for criminals. The entire state was a prision (like Austria). In my opinion it is as bad as prision still. All in all, Grutian is the better one. Grutian is two planets with three moon while Yoan is seven planets (sheesh) with all nine of their moons military installations. Any questions?

The names throw me a bit. It's hard to keep them straight because I have no idea what these places look like. Other than that, it seems ok. I think corruption would run rampant in each system.
