Youkoso! (Welcome!)

As a present for my dear PB Fans, I'l presenting you with Weekly/Daily courses on Learning Japanese!
They may be weekly, or Daily
Y'know what? Scratch that. I'll update whenever I have the time, haha.

To help me, help you, help me, (did anyone get that?), I'll be taking references out of the book from Living Langauge called "Japanese Course Book" and "Japanese Learners Dictionary".

Without further ado, let's get started!

Lesson one:

There are several things you should know to make your understanding of Japanese easier:
o1. Japanese syllables can be classified into five kinds. (I know I only have 4, but does anyone know what a 'half-vowel' is?)

a. a vowel by itself
b. a consonent by itself
c. a consonent + a vowel
d. a consonent +
y + a vowel

o2. Punctuation is used in Japanese, as it is in english! Though the use of punctuation in Japan is fairly new. (:

o3. In Japanese, the verb comes at the end of the sentence. Much different from the order of subject and preceding object in English.

o4. Japanese has a complex system of 'honorifics'. (As you probably already know), they can can be used to talk to the person you're speaking to without sounding too casual or too formal.

Japanese has all the letters of the English alphabet in Romaji (Roman letters) except for "L", "Q", and "X". Note, however, that "C" only appears with "H" as "CH", and are always treated as ONE LETTER. (:

The Accent:

The accent depends on the length of the word. When a word is accented, there is a drop in the pitch of the syllable that directly follows the accented syllable. (Did that make sense to you? If not, tell me.)
If un-accented, the pitch is always slightly lower on the first syllable and remains at an even level.
Note that the best way to understand the accents of Japanese is to listen to the native language or through a seasoned person who knows Japanese.

The alphabet; sounds.
Do your best to repeat the following Japanese first names. Try to notice the familiar pronounciation between English and Japanese.

Akira Aiko Atsuko Chieko Emiko

Eijiroo Fusao Gantaroo Giichi Haruo

Hideko Isoo Itoko Jun Kiyoshi

Kuniko Makoto Mariko Noboru Osamu

Rentaroo Ryuuichi Shinzoo Susumu Takashi

Teruko Umeko

Now read these and pronounce them again.

o1. Each sound is pronounced clearly and crisply. No sounds are pronounced slurred, like they often are in english.
o2. Each syllable is spoken evenly for almost an equal length of time.
o3. Some names have accented syllables, as where others don't.

End of lesson one!
I hope you learned something. xD Just writing it all down, I was amazed with how much I missed while reading. Keep in mind that I re-worded the facts to avoid plagurism. That's just me speaking in Smart Brenna Mode! ^__^ I also didn't add everything. Just what sounded most useful!
