I've been looking into getting the word "stronger" or something to that effect (as in possibly another language that would make it smaller) on my inner lower lip. Just wondering what sort of costs (please specify USD CD ect.) are involved, pain levels, and how long they last. I know the ink normally wears off a fair bit faster because of where it is. Anyone have any themselves?

I don't personally have this done yet, but I have been wanting to for awhile. When I asked my tattoo artist what he would charge for it he said he would do it for me for $40, but that might vary on the tattooist you go to, what you want, etc. The pain levels, I've heard, are bearable, but you're going to want to say away from doing too much with your mouth (This question actually popped up because the day I was going to go and get it done was actually a couple of days away from a dentist appointment. He, my tattooist, told me to stay away from the dentist for at least 2-3 weeks after this tattoo. And also mentioned something about how his stopped bleeding after a month .__. but he didn't say much on that..). As for the longevity, well, it varies. I've seen people get them, have the lines become slightly finer after the first few days, but remain beautiful for a long time afterwards. On the flip side I saw another one that was in ruins after a week. I think it really depends on going to someone who knows what they're doing. 3nodding

If the artist goes too light (because of the delicate tissue of the lip), then it'll fade. there are acids and liquids in your mouth constantly. When you get tattooed, you're told not to swim or submerge your tattoo at all, any kind of liquid just sucks ink right out.

So its gotta be in there pretty deep. And you'll more than likely have to go a couple times to get it touched up.

But its worth it!

yeah i agree with brynn, my best friend got one on his lip, lasted three months before it all went to hell, he had it tocuhed up every 6 weeks to keep it lookin good, but it got too costly so he gave it up, but it is funny how it looks now, he had hello tatted in his lip, now it just says hell...which if you knew him like i do, youd know his mouth is hell lmao!

I've never done a lip tattoo myself, but i've seen many done.

Depending on where you go is the cost. it should never be more than a hundred. Some people might charge more (Handeling fee....)
As for the pain, I'm told that it's alot less intense than most other tattoos. There are less nerves in your lower lip, and the skin is sofe enough that it'll only take one shot to do.
They do fade faster though, that's the downside. I had a client get "Freq" done on her lip, and it's been a little less than a year and she's getting it touched up. But the nice thing about that is, any artist worth his salt will touch any of Their OWN artwork free of charge, as long as you don't screw it up intentionally. (EX getting punched in a fight and majorly difiguring it... true story)

All in all, if you're determined enough to ask, I say Go for it!

Personally I would never have this done. Something about needles inside my mouth....Sorry...

I've been lucky though. The artist I went to for my first tat has touched it up several times. (I was 17. I didn't listen. Now I need to get it touched up so the color stays even.) Most of the artists I know will do touch ups on their work free. Last artist who said he wouldn't never got any of my family to let him do their work. Which sucks cause we are all ink junkies. Well...only about 20 of us are but still... Thats alot.
