Scads of pirates have eyepatches. Ever wonder how they lose them? Well, I've got a theory, and it has to do with parrots.
That's right, parrots. Evil, wrath-ridden creatres that get jealous as a spurned lover if you don't give them enough attention. Most pirates go with the standard medium sized green parrot. These are called Amazon Parrots, and they're the nastiest of the lot. When they get in a tiff, they'll bite at everything they see. Trust me on this one. I used to own one of the little blighters, and she spent half her time growling. I say pirates lose their eyes because their parrots pick them out!
But of course there's more than one way to lose an eye. Knife fights... muskets... nasty run-ins with the undead... which do you think is most common?

My mate lost 'is when he triped on t'e lantern.
It spilled t'e greek fire in 'is eye and it burned it out.
So not only did he be losin' t'e eye,
but got 'im a nifty scar along wit' it.

Lass, I hate to inform ye, but most pirates (like myself) lose 'em in blockade. It was months ago, in the defense of Admiral Isle in the Sage seas . . .
. . . oh, come on, don't YOU play Puzzle Pirates? xp

I say that Pirates mostly lose their eyes in battle and then they like to show off their scars!...
But then everytime they have their parrot on their shoulder, he would peck at the stiches!!!
So that is why Pirates wear patches...Most likely...Maybe....Possibly....
