I'm raising the question of "How easily tricked is the mind?" based on what I read here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=3996783Here's an initial exploration of the question and not at all an answer. Well, is the mind a substance or a term of convenience for a variety of functions that we don't know about yet. Let's say it is the latter. Which functions would be involved in being tricked?

scientifically, the mind is a place where all the input from your various senses are collected and processed and made into perceptions (rough late night explanation). and as such, it can be easily fooled with anything from an optical illusion to something as silly as a misinterpretation of what someone said.
on top of that, have you ever been scared of the dark? seen creepy things in shadows? or even shapes in clouds?
and before i forget, the mind has ways of tricking itself. using powers of suggestion, the mind can fabricate super realistic and detailed memories of things you may have never actually experienced. (for a fun experiment, try asking a couple who's been married many years how they met each other, but ask them out of earshot of each other and see what they say).

And all of it lies around perception (good 'ole Rorschach). Whether because someone else is manipulating your perception or you are, the mind can be easily tricked.

It also depends on personality, whether or not you want to belive the deception, and the sense your trying to deceve. for instance, your sight is rather easily decived whereas your sense of smell is less so.

It's really easy if you know what buttons to push.
