Alright! Well..I know there are like a MILLION Naruto Characters but I'm only going to post the ones who are really basically NEEDED in this RP guild. This is so if you haven't roleplayed any of these characters you can read this and get a feel for it and try a character you haven't tried before. Hope you enjoy this thread! He would play pranks all around the village in an attempt to be recognized by its inhabitants. This included, but was not limited to, painting graffiti on the monument depicting the first four Hokages. He would also tell everyone who doubted him on a near-constant basis that he would one day become Hokage. As he tells Iruka, he wishes to become Hokage in order to be recognized by those around him. Even after graduating, Naruto is still determined to be recognized, and becomes the "Number One Loudest, Unpredictable, Hyperactive Knuckleheaded Ninja" of Konoha, as described by Kakashi Hatake.
Naruto's exuberant personality and fiery desire for self-improvement strongly impacts the lives of those around him.
As the host of the demon fox, both Naruto's body and mind (occasionally) are influenced by it. Physically, Naruto has some of the demon fox's characteristics, such as whisker-like marks on his cheeks and larger than normal canines. His eyes are also somewhat slitted like a fox. He also has increased stamina and healing ability, which allows him to recover from major injuries within a day and minor injuries within a few seconds. Mentally, Naruto remains largely unaffected, save for a few animalistic traits that slip through, such as his tendency to leap between trees on all fours. Since the demon fox was sealed inside Naruto at birth, it is unclear just what parts of his personality it has had an effect on; however, it could explain Naruto's devilish side for pulling pranks to gain attention, as well as his stubbornness to never back down from a challenge. These traits become more pronounced as he draws upon the demon fox's chakra.
In the second part of the story, after a two-and-a-half year time skip, Naruto shows physical growth, sports a new outfit, and appears to not only have increased in strength, speed, and techniques, but intelligence as well. Kakashi even said that Naruto has become more cunning. However, according to Tsunade, Naruto is also slowly adopting some of Jiraiya's perverted traits. During his apprenticeship under Jiraiya, Naruto was able to read the latest of the "Icha Icha" series written by Jiraiya, although when he presents a copy to Kakashi, he says he thought it was boring.
It seems Naruto's feelings for Sakura have matured. He does not seem to have a child-like crush anymore. They have a very easy time communicating with each other, despite the nearly three-year separation. They are capable of having a casual conversation together, and they seem to like spending time together. Naruto is now noticeably taller than Sakura and some of his other friends. (In Part I, he is made fun of for being shorter than her.)
It is when Team 7 was on the way to Sunagakure that Naruto revealed to Sakura and Temari that the demon fox was sealed inside him. She sympathizes with him, as does Temari, who is very grateful to Naruto for the change in her little brother, Gaara.
Naruto has displayed a few new abilities since the start of Part II. Sometime during his training with Jiraiya, Naruto transformed into a four-tailed form of the demon fox without his remembering. Jiraiya claims that this is one of the only two times in his life when he nearly died – the first was an incident with Tsunade in which she beat him within an inch of his life for being a pervert. During Naruto's battle with Orochimaru, he gets angry to the point of accessing his four-tailed form again. Orochimaru states that this form is powerful enough to actually kill him.
Naruto has greatly improved his ninjutsu and taijutsu post-timeskip, as well as becoming a much better tactician. He managed to catch Kakashi by surprise during his second bell test, and even used Kakashi's obsession to Icha Icha Paradise to his advantage.

Sakura's main strengths are her intelligence and her great chakra control. She was able to climb trees using her chakra on her first try while it took several days of constant training for Sasuke and Naruto to manage it. Initially, Sakura's stamina and overall talent were quite below average, having had only used a few skills over the course of the series, the most advanced of which is dispelling genjutsu.
Inner Sakura.Inside Sakura resides the "Inner Sakura", which ridiculously seems to be much more ill-tempered than Naruto's demon fox. Inner Sakura seems to represent an assertive part of her personality and mostly serves as comic relief. Sakura's typical gentle responses are juxtaposed with the Inner Sakura's constant "Shannaro" (しゃーんなろー). The phrase has no literal meaning, but is usually translated as "Hell yeah", "Hell no", or "Damn it", depending on the situation (in English, it's translated as an angry and forceful "Cha!").
In her early school years, Sakura was timid and was occasionally made fun of and bullied because of her large forehead, until the popular Ino Yamanaka approached and befriended her, giving her a ribbon and telling her not to hide behind her bangs. Sakura looked up to Ino for her looks and ability, but while she appreciated Ino's friendship, she couldn't help the feelings of inferiority she induced in her. At one point, during a flower arrangement lesson, Sakura wonders whether Ino was like a fully bloomed flower, and if so, then what was she? Ino cheered her up, telling her that even a bud eventually becomes a flower, and there's no point to a flower unless it blooms. Their friendship continued until it became clear that both of them were infatuated with Sasuke Uchiha; Sakura felt that she could never equal Ino, let alone surpass her at anything, while she was trapping herself as Ino's mere sidekick in her mind. She handed Ino her ribbon back and proclaimed that they were rivals from that point on. Their friendship slowly deteriorated into a spiteful rivalry; by the start of the series, there is no indication that they were once best friends, and the story of their friendship is only elaborated on later.
In a sharp contrast to most other characters, Sakura lacks any childhood tragedy and, initially, defining themes (Kishimoto Masashi said that he made her initially unlikable by design). When she, Naruto, and Sasuke are assigned to form Team 7, she is ridiculously fixated on Sasuke and downright cannot stand Naruto - hardly knowing either of them. Shortly after their team's formation, she tells Sasuke that she believes the reason that Naruto behaves mischievously is due to the fact that he doesn't have any parents to tell him what's right and wrong; though Naruto isn't there to be outraged at this, Sasuke knows from personal experience that nothing could be further than the truth, and harshly berates her frivolous attitude. This is the first hint that Sakura isn't as shallow as she's been presented, and she concludes that Sasuke was probably right and she should treat Naruto better (though even this may be partly due to her infatuation - Kakashi later notes that she always agrees with Sasuke without question).
After the timeskip, Sakura's personality has taken on a much more mature and even tone. Like most people when they come of age, she seems to be much more comfortable in her own skin than when she was younger, frequently displaying the more ferocious aspects of her personality formerly personified in the Inner Sakura segments, instead of just responding within her timid restraint. Jiraiya comments that she is becoming another Tsunade upon first seeing her.
Sakura has developed some quirks about how others view her appearance. When reunited with Naruto, she asks him if she looked more like a woman in a flirting way. A clueless Naruto remarks that she looked no different, annoying her. On two separate occasions, Sakura has beaten up her new teammate Sai over the issue, once for calling her 'Hag', and a second time when Sai 'complimented' Ino by calling her 'Miss Lovely' (Sakura had expected Sai to insult Ino).
Sakura's first impression of the new Naruto was that of a more mature person; she was sorely disappointed to discover he was still somewhat lacking in that department. Despite this, she does see that he has mostly changed for the better, and they are very close. They are able to work together much better than before, passing their second bell test due to their excellent, if somewhat unorthodox, teamwork. She still insults him, but in a much more playful manner than before. When Naruto defines one of their outings as a date, Sakura, still furious over the previous letdown, replies "Fine. As long as you're paying." She is more concerned for his well-being, especially since he's a target of Akatsuki and under constant danger of death.
After two and a half years of intense training under Tsunade, Sakura has become an excellent medical ninja, and her abilities as a ninja have improved substantially in the form of medical jutsu and the use of chakra to create immense physical strength, also due to Tsunade's tutelage. During the Wave Country arc in Part I, it had already been mentioned that she had top-notch chakra control, which is essential for medics, and she does exhibit some enhanced strength in the filler arcs even before being trained. An example of her enhanced strength is seen when she slams her fist into the ground to force Kakashi, who had hidden underground, to reveal himself during the bell test; her superhuman strength easily splits the ground apart. Naruto and Kakashi, both shocked by the display, commented on her technique in reaction to this, calling it her "insane strength".

He is known as Copy Ninja Kakashi (コピー忍者のカカシ, Kopī Ninja no Kakashi?) or Sharingan Kakashi (写輪眼のカカシ, Sharingan no Kakashi?), referring to the Sharingan in his left eye and his use of it in battle, which has allowed him to copy more than a thousand jutsu. Kakashi's Sharingan eye is not his own; it originally belonged to his former teammate, Obito Uchiha.
Though he reportedly has many hobbies, the one pastime seen most in the series is his reading of "Icha Icha Paradise" (イチャイチャパラダイス, Icha Icha Paradaisu?, literally "Make out Paradise"), an adult and probably erotic novel authored by Jiraiya that is a runaway bestseller in the Naruto world. Kakashi most prominently reads it while training and speaking with Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, and later in the series can be seen reading the second volume, "Icha Icha Violence" (イチャイチャバイオレンス, Icha Icha Baiorensu?, literally Make Out Violence").
Kakashi has an ongoing, albeit slightly one-sided, rivalry with Might Guy; Guy constantly proclaims that Kakashi is his rival and challenges him on occasion, but Kakashi simply acts indifferent to the matter, annoying Guy to no end. Kakashi's current record stands at 49 wins and 50 losses, though the contests that make up this figure are so varied that it is not much of an achievement on Guy's part. Nevertheless, Guy is proud of his record. The contests have included 100-meter dashes, sumo-wrestling, ramen-eating contests, and even Rock, Paper, Scissors. Guy serves as a perfect antithesis for Kakashi in personality, appearance, and technique. Unlike Kakashi, Guy has had to work hard to achieve success as a ninja and mainly uses taijutsu. Kakashi, on the other hand, uses mainly ninjutsu and other techniques he copies with his Sharingan.
Kakashi's personal life appears to be as much of a mystery as the face behind the mask he has worn for most of his ninja career. He has no living family, or at least none he cares to acknowledge, and he's confirmed that everyone he loves is already dead. He is immediately recognizable as the son of (or mistaken for) the "White Fang of Konoha" (木ノ葉の白い牙, Konoha no Shiroi Kiba?), Sakumo Hatake. Though his face has never been seen, episode 101, an episode devoted to Team Kakashi trying to remove their sensei's mask, implies that he is in fact quite handsome.
Like his father, whose skills have been compared to that of the Legendary Sannin, Kakashi is considered a genius shinobi, graduating from the Ninja Academy at age 5 and achieving the rank of Chunin at 6. A few years after these accomplishments, Kakashi's father was disgraced by the village for abandoning a mission in favor of saving his comrades, which cost the Land of Fire dearly. Because of the shame he felt, Sakumo committed suicide, leaving Kakashi to bear witness to the event. After his father's suicide, Kakashi began to adhere strictly to the rules of the shinobi – in particular the rule dictating that the success of the mission must come before the well being of one's teammates, causing him to become arrogant, humorless, and by-the-book.
At the age of 13, Kakashi achieved Jonin status, mainly because of an ongoing war that required ninja more quickly than normal. As a reward for his accomplishment, he was assigned to lead his team on a sabotage mission to blow up a bridge in order to prevent Iwagakure forces from entering the Land of Grass, where the enemy could easily mount an attack on Konohagakure. During the mission, Kakashi's teammate Rin was captured by enemy shinobi. Obito wanted to save her, but Kakashi said they had to focus on the mission, opting not to make the same mistake his father had. Though Kakashi believed that they had to complete their objective, Obito eventually convinced him that his father had done the right thing, causing Kakashi to join in on the rescue effort.
During their attempt to save Rin, Kakashi loses his left eye as a result of an enemy ninja's attack. To protect Kakashi, Obito manages to awaken his Sharingan, and kills Kakashi's assailant. Soon after saving Rin, Obito again saves Kakashi, pushing him out of the way of another enemy's rock-dislodging attack, but becomes crushed in the process. Shortly before he died, Obito had Rin (a medical ninja) implant his Sharingan eye in Kakashi's damaged eye socket as a gift, thus creating Copy Ninja Kakashi. As his first act, Kakashi avenges Obito by killing the enemy ninja with his now-perfected One Thousand Birds technique.
Obito's death changes Kakashi, and Kakashi adopts many of Obito's traits. One such trait is Obito's concept of teamwork, which is most clearly seen in the way Kakashi tests newly-graduated students hoping to become a squad under him.
As stated by Sakura, Kakashi is the highest-ranking technique specialist in Konoha, and said to be the strongest Jonin in the village by the manga databooks. He tends to focus mainly on ninjutsu though, using his Sharingan to copy the techniques of others and then turn them on their source. However, he is skilled in all three forms of jutsu, having shown his abilities with genjutsu in the bell test with Team 7. Though having never shown prowess in taijutsu, Naruto commented that Kakashi was more skilled than Rock Lee, who himself is extremely good at it.
Kakashi has his own personal pack of Ninken ("ninja dogs"), which he calls into battle with the Summoning Technique. The dogs were apparently trained by Kakashi, and the smallest one, Pakkun, can even speak. He uses these dogs for tracking purposes, but they can also be used for attack, as seen during his battle with Zabuza Momochi, in which he uses Summoning: Earth Release: Tracking Fang Technique to hold Zabuza still by having the dogs follow Zabuza through the ground by tracking the scent of Kakashi's blood on his sword.
Though Kakashi has copied the majority of his jutsu, his most powerful jutsu is one of his own creations: the One Thousand Birds, a ball of lightning-based chakra held in the hand that can kill in a single hit. Kakashi's current version is known as Lightning Cut, because he is said to have cut through a lightning bolt with it.
After two and a half years, Naruto and Jiraiya return to the village earlier than expected because of the impatience of Akatsuki at capturing Naruto for his Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. Kakashi forms a team with Naruto and Sakura again. However, the relationship between the three is no longer teacher and students, but equal teammates.
Kakashi decides to test Naruto and Sakura's skills with another bell exercise, identical to the one they underwent with Sasuke when they first met Kakashi. The exercise reveals that Naruto and Sakura's skills and abilities had improved over the years, though he is still able to keep the bells from them. However, Naruto and Sakura manage to finally retrieve the two bells by preying upon Kakashi's addiction to the "Icha Icha" ("Make out") series of books written by Jiraiya. During the test, they try to spoil the ending of the latest volume, "Icha Icha Tactics" (イチャイチャタクティクス, Icha Icha Takutikusu?, literally "Make out Tactics"), which Naruto gave to Kakashi. Iruka relates to Naruto since he also grew up as an orphan and was around Naruto's current age when his parents were killed by the Demon fox; He was the first person to acknowledge Naruto as a person of value and show concern for him. Naruto cares deeply for him, and sees Iruka as a father figure.
Iruka's parents were killed by the demon sealed inside Naruto, but he doesn't blame Naruto for what happened since he knew Naruto was not the Demon fox. Iruka regrets not doing more for Naruto, so he tends to be a little overprotective, often worrying that Naruto is being pushed too hard. As a result Iruka tends to underestimate Naruto's ability and determination during the many trials he goes through to become a great ninja. He later became Konohamaru's teacher at the ninja academy after Naruto graduated.
During the Third Hokage's funeral, Naruto asked Iruka why people sacrifice themselves for others. He replied that all people were connected by a special line that could never be cut. He also says that line is the love between all people, and as the time passes that line gets longer and thicker. Naruto understood him, somewhat.
Iruka's favorite food is the same as Naruto's, Ramen (in particular, ramen from Ichiraku Ramen Bar); his least favorite food is Maze-gohan (rice with steamed vegetables). His hobby is going to the hot springs and his favorite phrase is "Faith".
Little is known about Iruka's abilities, but he is clearly competent in the basic ninjutsu and genjutsu, since he is an academy teacher. The anime filler episodes show Iruka using trap ninjutsu against Mizuki, as well as detecting Mizuki setting off a paper bomb, so it's possible he's skilled in this area, too.
In Part II, he basically looks the same, and he still has the same ranking. It is revealed that he is still a teacher at the academy. It is unknown if he will eventually advance to the level of Jonin

The name "Sai" was assigned only for the Grass Country mission. His birth name is currently unknown, as he is mostly cut off from the rest of the world. There is a good chance he can't remember his original name. His mission and its full objective was to kill Sasuke because of his supposed danger to Konoha, but after realizing the bond between him and Naruto, he decides against this, instead stating that he wishes to protect that bond by rescuing him from Orochimaru. When he successfully became a part of Team 7, his initial attitude toward Naruto and Sakura would not be evidence of this. His introduction to Naruto was an attack on him, Shikamaru and Choji, which was followed by an insult to Naruto's manhood by asking him if he even has a p***s (and makes several other comments about it in later chapters). Calling Sakura ugly later does not win him any points with her either.
Later, he tops it off by vehemently denouncing Sasuke using quite colorful language. With this, it earned him Naruto's rather emphatic flat-out refusal to accept him as a member of the team, insisting that Team 7's third member is still Sasuke, even when he's gone. Sai also earns a well-aimed power punch from Sakura for bad-mouthing Sasuke. As the story unfolds, Sai admits that he has a problem of showing his emotions (even when his big brother died) because he is somehow devoid of his own emotion or thoughts. He values the completion of his ANBU mission more than the safety of his teammates, as shown during training with Naruto, as well as when he ignored Yamato's order to catch an unconscious Sakura who fell from a bridge during the confrontation with Orochimaru.
Sai uses a scroll, brush and ink to draw animals that will jump out of the scroll and attack to his will. He can also use this method to produce a fully flight-capable bird, which he can ride. He also wields a short sword like weapon that he keeps on his back at all times.

Yamato is not actually his real name, only a codename assigned to him by Tsunade for his mission with Team 7. His real name is Tenzo (テンゾウ, Tenzō?), which Kakashi reveals during a casual conversation with him. Yamato seems to prefer going by the codename. According to Tsunade, he had the best performance record in ANBU while serving under the Third Hokage.
Shortly after his birth, Yamato wound up as the subject of one of Orochimaru's secret experiments. In this case, he and 59 other children were injected with the First Hokage's DNA in an attempt to replicate his ability to use Wood Release jutsu, as well as an unquantified ability to control tailed beasts. Yamato was the only one to survive the experiment, though Orochimaru remained unaware of the fact until meeting him as an adult.
Like other ANBU members, Yamato projects a calm, stoic demeanor in stressful situations. Despite this, he can also be quite laid back when not on duty, and is also not above using his Wood Release jutsu to create creature comforts. In one instance, he creates an entire house for his team to "camp out" in while on a mission. For Naruto's training, he creates an entire waterfall.
While being consistently good natured so far, Yamato claims to be a different sort of leader than Kakashi, one who is not above "ruling by the use of terror" when his team misbehaves or makes him impatient. Aside from his obviously intimidating skills as a ninja, however, this "terror" has so far primarily consisted of casting a creepy, "ghoul-eyes" expression directed at his charges, which seems more humorous than terrifying. Naruto, however, is easily creeped out by it.

Hinata's strong affections for Naruto seem to be a rather glaring exception, as no other introduced girl of around Naruto's age has displayed anything of the sort for him.

When Naruto briefly breaks the fourth wall during the start of the Chunin Exam and introduces his classmates - the "Rookie 9" - to the audience, he describes Hinata as "a shy, dark, weird girl who always looks away when I look at her". He gradually learns of the kind of person she is by snippets of interaction during the exam; she offers to let him copy off of her paper during its first stage and gives him a case of medicine during the third stage, both acts of kindness rather out of place in the fiercely competitive environment that is the Chunin exam. Though Naruto is oblivious to her attraction to him, his opinion of her becomes more sympathetic and caring.
Like the rest of the "rookie nine", Hinata has become a Chunin during Naruto's absence. She makes her Naruto II debut in Chapter 282, blossoming into a young woman, sporting longer hair, and wearing slightly different-colored clothing. Hinata's feelings for Naruto seem to have been magnified by his long absence; she wasn't even able to bring herself to greet him, opting to hide instead and fainting when he rather loudly detects her.
It is as of yet unknown how her skill has changed during the two and a half years Naruto was gone as she has yet to show any new techniques; however, it is reasonable to assume that she has attained at least the skills she has shown in the anime.

He is portrayed as being somewhere between being merely stoic and matter-of-fact, rarely ever smiling or showing emotion at all. Behind his reserved demeanor, though, Shino places a lot of value on his friends and teamwork. He also has a tendency of holding grudges, such as seen when Naruto fails to recognize him in Part II, but easily recognizes Kiba and Hinata. To be fair, Shino's style of clothing makes recognizing him somewhat difficult. As a part of Aburame clan tradition, Shino was infused at birth with a special breed of insects that feed on chakra. Shino is extremely intelligent and consistently makes shrewd judgements and pinpoint reasoning which confirm his excellent analytical and observational skills. Like Shikamaru Nara, Shino prevails in battles by systematically staying steps ahead of the enemy.
Shino's favorite food is vegetable salad, and his least favorites are tofu balls and strong-smelling foods. His hobby is observing bugs, and his favorite phrase is "Trump card" (in the English version, it's "Ace in the hole").
As seen during the Bikochu filler arc, Shino sleeps fully-dressed in a perfectly supine position, not even removing his sunglasses.
Later, Shino was sent with Naruto on a mission to Motoyoshi Village where he was to be a stand-in for a man named Fuuta. The goal of the mission was to not laugh during a funeral, or otherwise Fuuta would lose his inheritance, and the ever serious Shino was sent as the perfect weapon for this task. However, due to sabotage (being drugged with a poison that causes one to faux-laugh), Shino had to sit out - leaving Naruto to attend the funeral in his place. At the end of the mission, Shino threatens Naruto to keep quiet about Naruto's discovery of Shino's sense of humor.
Shino has become a Chunin during the timeskip, which isn't surprising considering his previous performance. In his debut, Shino wears a grayish-green, hooded jacket over a black, high-collared, buttoned shirt similar to his old outfit. In addition, he also carries a black pouch behind his back. He seemed a little let down that Naruto had trouble recognizing him with his sunglasses and high collar, while Naruto had no trouble recognizing Kiba and Hinata.

According to official databook Kiba's favorite foods are beef jerky and gristle. His least favorite foods are anything that he can't chew. His hobby is walking with Akamaru, which rarely involves simple walking. His favorite phrase is "Akamaru".
During Naruto's two-and-a-half-year absence from Konohagakure, Kiba passes the exam and is promoted to Chunin level. He has largely remained true to his loud, joking personality. When Naruto commented on Akamaru's growth, Kiba said he hadn't noticed since he had been around him the entire time.

The two tend to be seen together often, so they clearly enjoy each other's company, and Kurenai blushed on one occasion when Kakashi Hatake more directly suggested a connection between the two.
Kurenai likes shochu, vodka, salted octopus, and taking a glass of wine at night or dinner. She dislikes cake. Her personality is unyielding, honest, and simple. She also says she is a "sexy big sister type."
Kurenai makes her Part II appearance in chapter 313 of the manga. Asuma visits Kakashi in the hospital, saying he has something he wants to talk about. Kurenai shows up just before they can start, looking for Asuma. When Kakashi asks her if she needs something, she says no. She simply came because she had heard Asuma was there. When Kakashi asks Asuma to continue, Asuma hesitates and says he'll talk to Kakashi later when they have more time. Both Kurenai and Asuma then leave together, leaving Kakashi even more curious about what Asuma wanted to talk about.
In chapter 319, as Asuma and his team leaves to hunt for Akatsuki, Kurenai looks on from her apartment, giving a curious yet uncertain gaze. She seems to notice something but when she looks to the window, the team has already left.

Shikamaru is the sort of unenthusiastic person who would rather take a nap than get excited over something and likes the thinking games that older men are usually into, such as Shogi and Go. A testament to that is the fact that Shikamaru even decided to sleep during the attack of Konoha by Suna and Oto, as he thought it would be too troublesome to get up and fight, and end up getting attacked, after he had dispelled a sleeping genjutsu cast by the enemies. This was found out after Sakura was about to cancel the genjutsu and found out he was in fact aware of his surroundings, much to her annoyance. Another example is before he was supposed to fight Temari. Shikamaru contemplates forefiting, but is pushed into the arena by Naruto. When thrust into action-laden situations, uncomfortable situations, or indeed, any situation at all that would require him to exert himself, he tends to remark "what a drag" (the Japanese dub uses a similar phrase, though the meaning isn't exactly the same) the whole thing is. He is fully aware of this side of his personality and even dubs himself "the number one at running away" or "the number one coward".
However, when duty calls, Shikamaru has a strong moral compass and sense of commitment to his comrades. Even though by his own testimony he lacks bravery, he will sacrifice himself and face almost certain death for the sake of his friends without a second thought, such as when he stayed in back to confront the Sound Ninja, giving Naruto enough time to catch up with Sasuke. Since he has been promoted to Chunin, his responsibility for the lives of his friends has weighed very heavily on him on occasion.
Shikamaru is a brilliant strategist, and though his sensei, Asuma Sarutobi, often plays Go and Shogi against Shikamaru, he has never actually managed to beat him. Asuma got suspicious upon realizing that Shikamaru was so good at board games despite his abysmal grades, which were almost as low as Naruto's. As a result, Asuma administered an IQ test disguised as a game to Shikamaru, which revealed that Shikamaru was a genius with an intelligence of over 200. Shikamaru had felt that even moving his pencil in class was a bother and always slept through tests, resulting in his low grades. Shikamaru has a habit of putting his fingers together to create a square and closing his eyes so he can concentrate and come up with a strategy. Once he does, which often takes only a few minutes, he is often already thinking ten moves ahead of his opponent with over a hundred strategies already planned out.
Shikamaru has a longstanding friendship with Choji Akimichi, in whom he has complete trust. Before they were promoted to Chunin rank, Shikamaru, Choji and Ino Yamanaka were on the same Genin team under Asuma. Their fathers were on the same team as well. Their teamwork is unparalleled.
Shikamaru finds all women troublesome. He considers Temari to be the most troublesome one, followed closely by his mother. Even though Shikamaru finds women annoying, bossy, and troublesome (due to his mother's personality), he has expressed a notably mature interest in marriage and raising a family. (Shikamaru: "Marry someone who is not ugly, or beautiful. Have two children, first a girl, then a boy. Retire after his daughter is married, and his son has a job and spend the rest of his life playing Shogi. And to die before his wife.")

He has developed a new jutsu, "Shadow Sewing", which uses shadow tendrils that can move off the ground to impale multiple targets. Shikamaru first demonstrated this technique to destroy several of Sai's picture lions. Currently as a Chunin, he also takes on the responsibility as a chunin examination proctor in addition to his role as a teacher at the academy.
Unlike most of the Rookie Nine, Team Guy, and the Sand Siblings, Shikamaru was not promoted during the timeskip, as he was already promoted in the first Chunin Exam. Ino was Sakura Haruno's first friend and helped Sakura develop her own identity and self-worth. As a child, she gave Sakura a ribbon so she didn't have to hide her forehead, the source of much teasing and subsequent anguish. From that point on, Sakura and Ino were best friends. As Sakura became more outgoing, she developed a crush on Sasuke Uchiha, the most popular boy in the Academy and Ino's secret crush. When Sakura found out, she ended their friendship and she and Ino developed into bitter, yet still unsuccessful, rivals over Sasuke's attention.
Ino makes her Naruto II debut in Chapter 284 showing up just after Choji and Shikamaru fought Sai, yelling because Choji was late for a mission they were both leaving on with Asuma. She is seen wearing a button-up top and skirt. She has apparently done away with the full-body bandages she wore and has also grown her hair once again. Like the other rookies during the 2.5-year time jump, she has also become a Chunin. She doesn't wear her ninja headband around her waist anymore as she previously did. In fact, it doesn't seem visible at all. It is either concealed or she has decided to stop wearing it.
Ino first meets Sai when her team, including Asuma Sarutobi, pays a visit to Kakashi in the hospital. Immediately, Ino recognizes the resemblance between Sai and Sasuke and develops an infatuation for the new face. Her sudden feelings are only strengthened further after Sai gives her the nickname "gorgeous" or "pretty lady," which is seemingly a compliment on her appearance, when in fact, Sai was simply complimenting her out of fear of a similar violent reprieve to his calling Sakura "ugly".

Butterflies are insects known to eat sweets. Ironically enough, slim Ino has a name meaning "boar" and plump Choji is a "butterfly". Choji also manifests butterfly wings made of chakra after eating the third red pill during his fight against Jirobo. Given that his normal hairstyle creates two caterpillar-like protrusions to match his grub-like body, this is likely all part of a metaphor about metamorphosis.
Choji Akimichi is a member of the Akimichi clan, one of the four noble clans in Konohagakure. As one of the 'Rookie Nine', Choji became a Genin in the same year as Naruto Uzumaki. Together with Shikamaru Nara and Ino Yamanaka, he was assigned to Asuma Sarutobi's Team 10. Choji, Shikamaru and Ino call themselves the "Ino-Shika-Cho Trio", just like their fathers before them.
As an Akimichi, Choji has learned the clan's secret jutsu, "Multi-Size Technique and many related jutsu. He is easily motivated by the prospect of food and becomes highly agitated when somebody calls him fat (he refers to himself as "pleasantly plump"); however, he does not hide his love for food, enjoying Korean barbeque and wearing on his shirt the kanji for "eat." His nigh-constant hunger is also a constant annoyance for his teammates, as sating himself often comes before other necessities such as stealth and teamwork.
The members of the Akimichi clans look upon themselves as caterpillars that do nothing but eat and eat and eat, possibly why Choji means butterfly and not pig, like Ino. Choji did become what was the dream of many in the Akimichi; he became the caterpillar who evolved into a butterfly as shown in his battle against Jirobo.
Choji's favorite foods are Korean barbeque, snacks and sweets. His least favorite foods are anything inedible. His hobby is buying snacks and his favorite phrase is "Meat".
Choji makes his Naruto II debut in Chapter 283; he now wears a red top with armor on his torso, arms, and upper legs similar to his father. On the front of his chest armor is the obligatory kanji for "eat". His appearance has also changed; he now looks less obese and more muscular, and what he himself always claimed: big-boned. Like most of the rookie nine, he has reached the Chunin rank.
It also seems that he now has improved skills, including the ability to enlarge various body parts without much concentration. This is as compared to the past where he needs more concentration to bring about a change in his body size. He was also able to react immediately to an attack from Sai, and was able to keep Naruto and Shikamaru safe from the attack.
After they returned from the Grass Country, Team 7 (Naruto, Sai, and Sakura) went out to eat to introduce Sai to Team Asuma. Thinking about giving more nicknames out, Sai nearly calls Choji "fatass". Luckily, Naruto managed to stop him.

Not much is known about Asuma, only that he seems very laid back and is always smoking a cigarette whenever he is seen. Asuma smokes about two packs of cigarettes a day, though, as Shikamaru Nara pointed out, he stops the habit when there is "something going on" or something that bothers him. However, despite his laid-back attitude, he often worries about his team, which (as he puts it) consists of a "glutton" (Choji), a "loud mouth" (Ino), and a "slacker" (Shikamaru). Asuma is very close to his team, even though he admits that they are very hard to work with. Most of them are underachievers who would rather pursue other pastimes than train or take on missions. The team is often shown snacking at the AmaguriAma dango and tea shop or eating at the Yakiniku Q yakiniku restaurant.
Because his team is lazy, he has learned several techniques to get them to do what he wants, often through bribery and sometimes through outright trickery. He promises Choji barbecue dinners if he will complete that day's mission, or whatever else Asuma may want him to do. He often tricks Shikamaru into doing something by making it a look like a game (Shikamaru is a huge fan of strategy and puzzle games). This method is how he discovered that Shikamaru had an I.Q. of over 200. Knowing that Shikamaru would never take a written test under any circumstances because it would be "too troublesome" (he wouldn't bother to lift his pencil at the academy, hence his low grades), Asuma disguised the I.Q. test as a series of puzzles and asked Shikamaru to solve them (knowing that Shikamaru couldn't resist solving a new puzzle). How exactly he designed these puzzles to test something as numerical as I.Q. is unknown, but it is a testament to his cleverness and resourcefulness.
Note the sash around Asuma's waist, symbolizing his membership in the 12 Guard Ninjas of Fire.The sash under Asuma's vest indicates that he was a member or previous resident of the "Temple of Fire" Ninja Temple within the Land of Fire. Asuma was one of the 12 Guard Ninjas of Fire who protected the Lord of the Land of Fire at one point in his life, before returning to active military duty as a Jonin (akin to Kakashi's stint as an ANBU operative before returning to the rank of Jonin in the ninja military). These ninja seem to be particularly skilled, and Asuma is no exception. Asuma uses trench knives (brass knuckles with a blade on one end) to fight. He can extend the blades of his brass knuckles with his chakra to injure the enemy even though the physical portion of the blade doesn't touch them. Coupled with his taijutsu skills, this makes him a formidable combatant.
There is a possibility he is romantically involved with Kurenai Yuhi. At one point, Kakashi mentions this and Asuma attempts to change the subject. The two are seen together almost constantly when not on duty, and are usually paired together when they are on duty.
Asuma makes his appearance in Part II with his team after the Grass Country arc. They visit Kakashi in the hospital and Asuma sends the kids off to dinner saying he will pay. Apparently, Asuma wanted to talk to Kakashi about something of importance, but he was quickly interrupted by appearance of Kurenai, who was looking for Asuma. Once Kurenai appears, Asuma changes his mind and says they'll talk later. As he left with her, Kakashi commented that he was even more curious about what Asuma had to say.
In chapter 314, it is confirmed that Asuma is the son of the Third Hokage. While standing at the Third's grave, he comments on how he's finally beginning to understand what the Third taught him. Asuma confesses that he's always been detached from Konoha, but after seeing how his father sacrificed himself for the village, he is now proud to be a member of the Sarutobi family. This means that Konohamaru is either his son or his nephew. Due to the fact that the age difference between them is only about 19 years, the former scenario is unlikely, though not impossible.

Lee's bond with Guy is by far the strongest student-teacher relationship described in the series; Lee owes a large part of his character to Guy's guidance, including his dedication to hard work, taijutsu prowess, outfit, and haircut (Lee already had the large eyebrows). Guy himself believes that Lee has "beautiful eyes," and also calls him his "cute student."
Rock Lee is a very spirited taijutsu (hand-to-hand combat) specialist and is the paragon of hard work. Incapable of using genjutsu or ninjutsu, he fights using taijutsu alone. At the start of the story, he is able to open five of the eight "chakra gates" inside a ninja's body, and already has physical speed and strength far beyond that of most ninja. However, Lee often matches up against opponents with perfect defenses against taijutsu, such as Gaara's sand shield and Kimimaro's bone manipulation, testing his taijutsu skills.
No matter who the opponent, Lee always shows respect and never attempts to demean them. As an academy student, he was teased for his inability, leading him to spend all his time and concentration on taijutsu under the guidance of his sensei, Might Guy. Through practice, he has become so overcompensatingly strong in the taijutsu discipline that he was allowed to graduate the ninja academy with his teammate and rival Neji Hyuga. Neji originally claimed that Lee was not really a ninja since he can't use genjutsu or ninjutsu, saying that just because Lee is the first student who graduated from the academy with only taijutsu doesn't mean that he is amazing, just unusual.
Lee always keeps a pair of extremely heavy weights on his legs (dropping them from even waist-height causes them to bury themselves into the ground) and has trained himself to be amazingly fast despite this hindrance. The possibility of taking off the weights is a huge trump card for him, as his speed increases drastically beyond its already impressive normal level when free of them (to the point that he moves faster than the blink of an eye). Guy has restricted him to only taking them off in a situation when protecting people who are important to him, but made an exception during Lee's battle with Gaara. Kakashi ridicules this type of training, calling it 'sentimental' and 'old-fashioned', and also points out that Guy went a little overboard with the amount of weight. Lee is also seen training with stone sandals in a filler episode of the anime. Lee has actually trained to the point that he fights while sleeping on occasion, which occurs through muscle memory.
Rock Lee's weighted clothing is a training method that allows him to move faster once it is removed, a common concept in martial arts shōnen manga. Such methods are also practiced among some martial artists, although the practice is dangerous and controversial.
The greatest of Lee's "trump cards" are five of the eight chakra gates. He is the only known person below Jonin-level capable of opening any of these gates. Using this technique is forbidden and Lee was taught to open these by Might Guy, which Kakashi disapproved of. By opening these gates one can release the mind's limits on chakra use at the expense of the body. Lee can open the first five gates, and has done so when performing Reverse Lotus, the final and most powerful of Lee's attacks. Guy and Kakashi (shown in a brief flashback of his training) are the only other people who have demonstrated usage of the chakra gates. Guy can open at least six of the gates, as shown during his fight against a clone of Kisame Hoshigaki. Although Lee has supposedly just worked hard to get to where he is, Kakashi notes that it takes more than hard work to open the chakra gates.
A drunken Lee demolishes a restaurant in a flashback.Lee has also manifested a natural predisposition towards Drunken Fist; when he drinks as little as one drop of alcohol, he becomes an unpredictable and unstoppable force of destruction and chaos. His actions while drunk are usually a combination of misguided attempts to impress Guy, regardless of whether or not Guy's around, and drunken attacks on anyone who might happen to be near him. When drunk, his moves have an extra edge of unpredictability to them, much like the actual Drunken Fist fighting style. As Guy explains to Tsunade during the Sasuke Retrieval arc, after Lee accidentally drank a small amount of Guy's sake during a congratulatory dinner, he proceeded to lay waste to the pub they were in. It took the combined effort of Guy and Neji to hold him down. Guy could have done it on his own, but didn't want to hurt Lee.
Lee has also shown signs of above average intelligence. He has a near textbook knowledge of the Hyuga clan (as shown before the fight between Hinata and Neji), and is able to understand the strategies of his comrades through mere observation.
Rock Lee's favorite food is medium-spicy curry rice and curry udon, revealing his taste for curry in the Raiga arc. Like his sensei, when asked about his least favorite food, he replies "There is no such thing!" His hobby is hard work and has even been called a genius at hard work.
Kishimoto Masashi says: "Lee's theme is hard work. People think that hard work is lame these days but that's not the case. I wanted to express that hard work pays off."
Two-and-a-half years later, Team Guy is sent as backup for Team Kakashi on a mission to rescue Gaara from the hands of Akatsuki. Lee has yet to display any major new techniques, but it stands to reason that he has learned more, if not all, of Guy's more advanced taijutsu techniques. In terms of his appearance, he now sports a Konoha ninja vest, further increasing his comical resemblance to Guy. If it weren't for the fact that Guy is almost twice as old as Lee, they'd look identical. He also seems to be more suited to teamwork now, no longer letting his thirst to prove himself lead him head first into a fight. Much of his personality remains the same; he still looks up to Guy and tries to follow in his footsteps. When Guy is forced to carry Kakashi back to Konoha piggy-back style, Lee mistakes it for training (Guy does actually treat it as such) and attempts to do the same with Neji. Neji is disturbed by the earlier scene with Guy, as is everyone else, and flatly refuses.

He is also considered to be the strongest and most talented of all the Konoha Genin who attended the Chunin exam during the first part of the series, and is the first of them to become a Jonin. Neji has been praised as a natural genius of the Hyuga clan, but can never lead it because he's a branch house member. He is perhaps the most skilled Gentle Fist user in the series, despite this fact. Though the most powerful techniques of this style are normally kept within the main house, Neji learned them through simple observation.
Neji is in the same Genin team as Rock Lee, Tenten, and their Jonin-sensei Might Guy. Neji and Lee have a long-ongoing rivalry, which, not unlike the rivalry between Guy and Kakashi, mostly comes from Lee's side. Lee, who has been fighting against his fate as a worthless shinobi all his life, tries desperately to prove himself to the world in general and Neji in particular. Neji mocked Lee's dream of becoming a fine shinobi in the past, saying one cannot go against fate, but after Neji's defeat by Naruto, he seems to have warmed up to Lee. Tenten is often seen sparring with Neji, which usually consists of Tenten honing her skill with throwing weapons and Neji deflecting the weapons. The two of them are often equally annoyed with Lee and Guy's overreacting and 'youthful' behavior, but are similarly equally dedicated to fighting for their teammates. Despite his rank, Neji still goes out on missions with his team.
One of the implications of Guy's team is that they are the archetype of the "Chinese rivals," a common staple in Japanese anime and manga. Several of Neji's techniques have Chinese aesthetics to them, in addition to his clothes. Lee also bears a strong resemblance to Bruce Lee. Tenten is the most overtly Chinese with her outfit, hairstyle, name, hobbies, favorite foods, and high-pitched voice (a stereotype of young Chinese girls).
Because he is a member of the branch house, Neji can never be the leader of his clan, despite his mastery of Gentle Fist and the Byakugan; his father, Hizashi Hyuga, despite being Hiashi Hyuga's twin, was born second, making him a branch house member. In his childhood, Neji had nothing against the main family as he was too young to fully understand the implications of being a branch family member, but as he grew up seeing his father feel nothing but hatred for his own brother and the main family, he gradually came to resent it himself. His resentment only deepened as he witnessed his father enraged first hand while watching Hinata Hyuga, Hiashi's elder daughter and Hyuga main family heir, train with her father; Hizashi knew that his own son, Neji, would never be the heir of his clan. Detecting Hizashi's vibes of animosity, Hiashi activated the cursed seal on Hizashi, putting his brother in immense pain as his nerves were being attacked. It was Neji's first encounter with the Hyuga cursed seal.
It was not until the incident with Kumogakure's and Konohagakure's peace treaty, however, that Neji truly became who he was when he showed up for the Chunin exams. The two villages, which were at war with one another, decided to sign a treaty, and for this representatives from Kumogakure arrived. On the same day, the very same cursed seal that tortured his father was put upon Neji himself; and that night, the ambassador from the Lightning country attempted to kidnap Hinata, revealing that the intention of the "treaty" was all along to get into the Fire country and acquire the secret of the Byakugan. Hiashi detected the intruder and killed him at once, for which Kumogakure requested payback in the form of Hiashi's dead body. That day, Neji's father was sent to his death instead of Hiashi, and Neji grew up believing that his father was sent against his will to protect the Hyuga clan's secret bloodline. This chain of events drove him to the point of believing that a person's future is decided from birth and that there was no way to escape or change destiny, making him a character with a grudge against the main house.
In the original Japanese manga, Neji's seal is in the shape of a Buddhist Manji (卍). However, in the anime and English manga, it was altered to an "X" because of its resemblance to the Nazi "Hooked Cross" swastika
Neji's personality has changed a great deal after the timeskip (mostly due to Naruto's influence). He has changed his jacket in favor of traditional Hyuga robes and has grown his hair even longer than it already was. Neji is still a very serious person, but he seems to be somewhat more cheerful and kinder. He no longer has a pessimistic attitude that his fate cannot be changed, and he seems to encourage his teammates to a certain extent. Neji seems to care more about his teammates than he did before, and he seems to have developed a stronger bond with them. Neji also seems to be more willing to use teamwork in battle, rather than always fight alone.
Two and a half years later, Team Guy - including Neji - is sent as backup for Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi on a mission to rescue Gaara from the hands of the criminal organization Akatsuki. Neji has become a Jonin, and has learned at least one new technique: Eight Trigrams Empty Palm. His Byakugan also seems even more powerful, allowing him to almost instantly locate four small tokens scattered across a mile radius in a woodland area.
