can anyone help me figure out how to make up a bass part that goes along wih the melody of a song my friend wrote?

I'm sure someone would help, you just need to post some form of way for us to hear the melody first. And if this is a part that your wanting to play, you may also need to give us a head's up on your general skill level (what you can and especially cannot do on the bass and stuff like that).

I'd be glad to help, but first i'd need to hear the tune. and it would help immesurably if you could find out what key it's in.

A recording of the melody would help, or the chords used in the tune would help as well. That way I can explain those chords, and harmony ideas. Most of the time a simple bass line works, but if your trying to harmonize someones melody, its totally different.
