Has anyone been on an elimination diet before? I just started one yesterday and although I'm doing good so far, it's only been two days...

I am going on this diet because after a variety of foods, I get really bad stomach pains, kind of like period pains, but it can happen anytime and anywhere and they really hurt (nearly collapse sometimes).

Well this diet, I have started out by eliminating sugar, caffine, wheat and dairy as well as drastically minimising my fat intake (excluding the good fats such as in fish) and fast food (inc. take away and frozen foods).

So far it's not so bad, the dairy I am coping with because it is eliminated due to the lactose, so I just buy lactose free cows milk (can not stand soy). The caffine is harder because I love my soft drink and chocolate based products. Sugar is a bit of a struggle, but I'm making up for this with nuts and sweet fruits to stop my cravings. Fat on the other hand is only a problem when I'm at uni - I love deep fried food.

Ok, reading back through that last bit, I'm surprised I'm not huge! But I do love my food.

It's not so bad so far, but I think that it is because my mum is doing it too. She's done the elimination diet before and decided to help me out by going back on it, but not as restictive (she can still have chocolate and icecream - no fair).

But after 8-12 weeks (or less depending if the stomach pains have stopped), I slowly introduce back certain foods to see what is reacting with me and causing all these problems. Hopefully it will also help out with my constant tiredness.

I already know that it will cause me to loose weight, but hopefully not as much as mum did. She went from 70kg down to 58kg and looked very sick. But although she was already skinny (and has since put the weight back on) it made her look like skin and bones. I'm a lot more muscular then she is, so hoping it won't be too much of a problem. Plus she over did it, she was meant to reintroduce foods and she didn't do that at all until we made her.

Well this is just some info on my current diet at the moment and will keep yous up to date.

I don't mind if anyone doesn't read this or reply, it's mainly for my own benifit. I find telling people and posting updates keeps me motivated to continue it.

I'm on an unofficial elimination diet. In general, some foods just make me feel sick to my stomach after eating them. I have a really hard time eating fastfoods because I ususally feel really crummy afterwards. Same with soda. Like... half a soda will make me sick to my stomach- it's crazy. Generally, anything that's not good for me will make me feel like vomiting if I eat it too often. Granted, I still love my junk food. I have a really bad habit of eating too many cookies and too much popcorn but I'm definetly a lot healthier than most people I know, I think.

Well it's been over 4 weeks now, the pain has pretty much gone (still have it occassionally but no where near as much)

I've been putting in a bit of sugar now and then (only when I'm socialising) and back on normal milk. But still staying off the processed foods - did have a macoroni and cheese pasta out of a packet... BAD idea - yet I'm increasing the wheat.

So I've pretty much found out that it's the processed foods that are reacting to me sad

You did talk to a doctor before going on this diet, yes? The stomach pains could indicate something much worse than just a simple diet problem. Especially since you said that after 4 weeks of being on this diet, you still have stomach pains. Sure they're lessened, but they're still there. sad
