The Council Room

In Fort Weyr, a beautifully appointed chamber, known as the Council Room, is the location of meetings between the Weyrleaders and Weyrwomen of the six Weyrs. It is dominated by a table in the shape of a half oval with seats for each of the twelve Weyrleaders and Weyrwomen.

The wall decorations, brought forward from the Old Time, are tapestries pertaining to each Weyr. They are very lavish and beautifully made, showing Masterwork of needlecraft.

The tabletop is a magnificent mosaic done in chips of semiprecious and precious stones, the work of a lifetime from the Minecraft lapidaries. Each of the chairs is ornately decorated with fancy chair arms and seatback. The padded seat pads are sumptuously embroidered.

Because of the frequent change of Weyrleaders, the seat pads are newly made for each man. The Senior Weyrwoman of each Weyr is usually the only one to attend these conferences, and her chair decoration is of a more permanent character.

Tolara was leaning up against the wall, eyes half closed. It wasn't tradition to use the council room for this sort of meeting but it was the best place she could think of. Most riders knew where it was, and there wouldn't be a very large group...Sitting on a table next to her were a few slates. She was sure that people would suddenly remember another flight and the order would have to be changed. The final protection would, of course, be left to the rider but it might help to know if Benden's Queen was due to rise soon just as you needed to leave you're own Weyr due to a flight.

Tolara groaned waiting for the trickle of people to start coming in. Flights just brought too many headaches, she reflected. Before and after.

After having made several wrong turns and intruding upon matters that not concern her in several other riders' rooms, Kirana was finally able to stumble upon the council room. She smiled shyly to the Weyrwoman, making a small bow.

"Tithenth told me that I was suppose to come here," She said softly, trying not to keep her eyes lowered too much, but also trying not to look as though she was nervous (which she was).

The sound of a hesitant voice broke into her thoughts. Opening her eyes, Tolara smiled tiredly at the girl. Stalling for time she nodded trying to remember who she was. The face suddenly snapped into place.

This was the person Morkth confused T'rin about leading to Glith snapping out of her stupor. The smile became a tad more real as Tolara nodded again. "Yes, Weyrling gold rider right? I'm sorry I haven't learned your name yet..." Tolara closed her eyes thinking. "When more people arrive stay in the left corner of the room and try to grab all the weyrlings you see allright?"

"Yes, Weyrwoman," Kirana said, nodding. "And my name is Kirana, by the way."

Kirana moved quickly, finding a place along the left wall to where she could watch the door. Careful to avoide any of the tapestries, Kirana reclined against the cool stone of the wall as Tithenth's voice echoed in her head.

What's going on?

Nothing, at the moment, love, but I'm sure it's going to be something important. It seems a lot more people are suppose to show up, other weyrlings included.

((*snort* poor R'dan, lol))

Faerra stood outside for a moment. Ah yes, the coucil room. She knew where this was, like she knew where most other places in the weyr were, possibly including some places that she shouldn't know about. Ah well, it was that sharding flit Tao, who had led her on so many wild goose chases of his, she found it hard to get lost now. Taking a breath, she entered, seeing only Tolara and Kirana there right now, the others had yet to arrive. "Hello," she called softly. We're meeting in here...?" She crossed the room to stand by Kirana. What could this meeting be about?

Mine, What is happening? I want to know too!

Nothing right now love, we're still waiting for more people to show up.

Oh, alright, but when something happens, I want to know.

A melodic bugle heralded the arrival of Faith and Ava. Landing on the ledge, the sunny gold dipped her shoulder to help her rider to dismount. Don't have too much fun without me, the dragon teased.

"Don't worry, I'll try not to." Ava smiled, and patted Faith's side. As she moved to enter the chamber, the queen took off in search of a warm perch.

As she walked in the room, she saw Tolara, Kirana, and Faerra. "Hey everyone," she greeted them with a smile and a wave.

Faerra smiled back as another woman entered the room. "Hello, you must be from Benden, I don't belive I've seen you before. I'm Faerra, bonded of green Mystith, nice to meet you." She hadn't seen this woman before, was she a gold or greenrider? She puzzled over this for a moment before Mystith sent her an image of a large, sun coloured dragon. Ah, so gold then. So far, she was the only greenrider here. She hoped more would come, so that she wouldn't feel so conspicuous. Not of course, that she didn't like gold riders, on the contrary, one of her best friends, Nae impressed a gold. But golds and greens were different, in a lot of aspects, and so would probably deal with slightly different things.

Nae hurried into the room, patting a bit of hair back into her high pony and trying not to look too 'kerfluffled'. She chuckled as the word popped into her head unbidded. Where HAD Cyhi learned that word? She shook her head - and realized she'd laughed out loud. Oh well... these people were riders too - she imagined they'd understand a private joke between dragon and rider. She smiled waving at the Weyrwoman. "Morning, Tolara! ah... er... Weyrwoman!" She doubled back on herself, realizing she should probably have used formal address in this situation. Strange, she seemed to be the only one - at least so far - that was at all familiar with Fort's Weyrwoman.

She looked around... and saw a new girl. She didn't recognize her, and Nae knew all the weyrlings now. Or she could at least place a name to a face... but she had nothing on this one. She nudged Faerra, gesturing towards the strange girl. "Hey... who's that?"

Gail navigated the inner stairwells with little trouble considering her sense of direction. She was entering the upper levels that held the wing leaders and highranking bronzes.
Lavish decorations were hung around the walls depicting heroic draconic scenes. The texture of the air was thick with the musky scent of insence, it was a familiar smell from her foster home of Ista. Someone up here must have some forigien tastes she thought. She pulled back the rich red curtains to the council room and quietly slipped through, her soft leather shoes making a soft shuffling sound on the tiled floor. She stared at the mozaic on the table in amazed wonder, she had yet to see something quiet so beautiful. It was quite a area to behold. She looked to the Weyrwoman who sat at the head of the table in a dark wooden ornate chair. She was leaning on one arm; she looked tired but her eyes were sharp. Gail bowed to her as she entered.
"You summoned me, Weyrwoman?"

After appearing from between, Wrath lands near the stairway that leads to the Weyrwoman's quarters. Ducking to let the Weyrlings slide down more easily, Wrath makes idle commentary to Ray that has the young woman making faces to keep from busting out laughing. When they're all down, Ray points them at the stairs. "The council room's up there, just follow the sound of voices, I'm sure there are already riders present.

Then she secures all of the loose straps on Wrath's harness. "Go visit with the girls, okay?" Snorting, Wrath bobs her head and waits until the Weyrlings have cleared the area, then launches up to the heights to wait until the meeting was over.

Removing her helmet, Ray carries it under one arm as she follows her Weyrlings. From the look of the heights, one of her older Weyrlings has already arrived. She really had to graduate that class soon.

As she enters the councilroom, aside from her Weyrlings and Tolara, Ray has trouble recognizing the other riders. "Hello there, Weyrwoman Tolara," Ray says. "I think Beriadi had to take care of some things, but I believe she will be arriving shortly."

Tolara shook her head the words bouncing off the walls. 'Weyrwoman!', 'Weyrwoman?' 'Weyrwoman.' She bit back a groan at hearing the formality although thankfully Naeryn had slipped.

"Ah, Gail. Yes, we need to get mating issues cleared in the air. Why don't you wait over on the right where all the riders will go?"

She had barely finished speaking before a gaggle of weyrlings swamped the room. Well, that was a bit of an exagarration. There weren't that many weyrlings with Rayinte but they seemed to take up more space than they should. Tolara began to doubt the wisdom of this particular room. Would there be enough space, her mind fretted.

It will be fine..Glith soothed her rider. Everyone will fit.

The smile she offered Rayinte was slightly stressed but stable and real. "Allright, well... As soon as you think everyone from Benden is here we'll begin. In the meantime why don't you go talk to Gail, one of our green riders." And the only one from Fort, Tolara added silently.

Briefly she counted heads on the weyrling side. They were still missing a few...

Ray looks at the unfamiliar riders around her and spots one who might be Gail... she seems older than the others, at least.

"Hello. Gail? I'm Rayinte, Wrath's rider, from Benden. Tolara told me to speak with you?" She glances at her weyrlings, hoping they aren't tearing things apart. Of course, most of them are older than the toddlers she used to babysit... but still, old habits.

Eventually, a timid head pokes into another room. Like any other male, he refused to ask for directions and had stumbled around the Weyr for what seemed like Turns. He was surprised to see so many people already milling about in the room, but from the lavish decorations, he gathered that he was probably in the right place.

R'dan spotted Tolara and quietly slipped into the room that was almost filled. He found a spot along the wall near a few of the other weyrlings and stood, looking closer at the others in the room. From the various knots, he gathered that some were here from Benden. He spotted some that appeared to be weyrlings, though that one girl, with the weyrling goldrider knots, looked to be a bit old. He noticed the knots of another Benden goldrider. The others wore knots of weyrling greenriders. Then there was the greenrider from Fort across the room and the other greenrider weyrling and the two goldrider weyrlings from Fort.

Waitaminute. Females. All females. Why was he here? In a large pool of females? Oh why hadn't Amlaith at least warned him about this?

Embarassed, the boy wanted to leave, but he had been summoned, so he'd have to endure the meeting. Someone moved and he finally spotted another boy, with the knots of a Benden weyrling. Also a greenrider. Giving a sigh of relief, R'dan slowly made his way over to the only other male in the room, also the only other male greenrider on Pern.

Giving a slight smile, he extended a hand, introducing himself. "R'dan, of green Amlaith. Weyrling here at Fort."

Myythren

Myyth padded into the counsil room with the other weyrlings and was stunned by the beauty of the room. From the table to the chairs......Myyth smiled, wondering what those back at the hold would think of this. Taking a quck look around she noticed a few things, the first that all the other rider were female. Well almost all, she thougth noticeing two boys standing against the wall.

A second look around only intensifed her curiosity. Everyone in the room appread to be a green or gold rider. "I wonder what this is all about" she thought, while really hopeing there haden't been more her dragon should have told her, but that had slipped its mind. "What I am I going to do with you Spirith?" she thought.

Myyth moved over to stand along the wall, a bit down from the boys. Watching Ray speak to the other riders she continued to look around, wondering what this was all about. And, as much as an after thought as anything else, to try to not do anything stuipd. Her dagon was likely causing enough problems back home. The last thing she needed to was screw up at a muilti weyr event like this.
