Album Of The Month - September 2006 Roisin Murphy - Ruby Blue Released 2005 Roisin Murphy is what Pop music should be. All talent, with an amazing look as well as a an amazing personality. Back when she fronted the UK electro-pop Moloko, her amazing voice, together with some amazing melodies created such hits as Time Is Now, and Bring It Back. Now out on her own doing her solo thing, Roisin's sounds are more jazz, and trip-hop inspired, but still nonetheless spectacular. The album goes from melody to mayhem between tracks, the title track Ruby Blue, is full of distortion and heavy sounding drums and bass, while If We're In Love, has a sound similar to Micheal Jackson pop circa 1980's, and the closing track The Closing Of The Doors, is lounge music beauty. An excellent album allround. Stand out track: Ramalama (Bang Bang) Album Samples at Last FMSow Into You - Film ClipIf We're In Love - Film Clip

Pez Black But seeing as no one comes here, it's probably just gonna be for myself. sweatdrop I try to do my part. Pez Black Roisin Murphy - Ruby Blue Sounds interesting. Might I make a suggestion? Perhaps you could link us to a site where we could hear some samples? Some of us are too lazy to go googling around unless we really feel compelled.

I just looked her up at youtube, by the by (avoiding work). There's a live performance of Ramalama, but the reviews say it's faster than the album version. Also, there are videos on there that use Ramalama as their backdrop.

Yeah normally I wouldn't like it, but there's something about Roisin's voice that really appeals to me, (that and she's amazingly good looking)
I do prefer her stuff with Moloko though. It's what Pop music should really be.
I've been meaning to check out Thom's album. Everyone has been saying it's really good

Album of the Month - October 2006 Talking Heads - Remain In Light Released 1980 Where to start? How about, this album is bloody genius? Possibly Talking Heads' greatest acomplishment, Remain in Light, is truley amazing. From start to finish, the album is mesmerising. Taking from a number of genres of music, including Electronica, Punk, Funk and Traditional African Sounds, the album is experimentation at it's best. The album in it's entirety is almost a prophetic vision, with tracks like Listening Wind, and Once In A Lifetime, more relevevant now than before (Listening Wind, tells the story of Mojique, an Anti-American Terrorist, Buying Materials, Planting and watching Bombs blow up, while Once in a Lifetime, deals with material possessions. An amazing thing about the album, is that each track only uses a simple drum and guitar riff repeated throughout each song, further emphasising the use of African music throughout. Ooh, the classic dance moves in Once In a Lifetime. I always liked that video. Talking Heads are/were pretty awesome. So, point of discussion: after the breakup, who do you like better: David Byrne or the Tom Tom Club? I prefer the Tom Tom Club. Tina Weymouth is great.

Can't really say. The only Tom Tom Club song I've heard was Wordy Rappinghood, which I thought was great. It's something I'm going to have to look into.
And yeah I saw that video for the first time a few weeks ago, and thought, "Damn that was awesome"

As soon as it started, I thought, "I've heard this before!" then I realised it was taken by Mariah "Un-original" Carey. "JAMES BROWN! JAMES BROWN!" hehehe too cool A quick thing back on Remain In Light. I recently read that aparantley, if you play the album at a speed 20% slower, the songs become much more danceable, and Byrne's lyrics become much more easier to understand. I'm gonna have to try it out when I get some time.
