No, this is NOT a rant about manga being expensive... it's a rant about all the threads that pop up in the Manga subforum about how it's too expensive. I know this is just preaching to the choir... but this really makes me angry to the point where I want to flame people. stressed ..::Actual Quotes From Actual Stupid People::..One_Winged_Angel 7 I don't have near enough money to afford all the best mangas, so i have to rely on friends and the public library. They are worth the money, but still i could only buy 4 a month and even then i would be broke. I don't have a job and i get $10 a week. I think a price drop is in order. Tan89 .. I don't buy manga... I download it. Unless I really really really like it, then I'll go and buy it... but usually, if I just want to read it, I'll download. confused angry fox why the hell are manga 10 bux? it is worth it,a nd i'm still gonna pay for it, but i think it's rediculously over-priced. stare stressed crying Maddtoaster Yea manga is getting pretty expensive. I dont bother buying it unless I REALLY want it. You can always do what me and my friend use to do. Oh geez... this is why I only rarely go into the A/M/C. Because I WILL flame these people.
God, they must be new to the hobby. Don't those bastards know that manga used to cost $16 on a good day? And there are plenty of plausible reasons for manga to be that expensive--licensing fees, the cost of using all that extra ink, paying translators, and then just the fact that it is a relatively small market. Yes, it's expensive, but if you love the style and the story, and you want to be a true fan, then you should be willing to pay for it. And if you don't have enough money, then you just need to prioritize what series you do buy.
I run into this same issue when I go into topics about anime. People just think it's okay to only download scanlations and fansubs; they completely miss the point of being a true member of the fandom.

Does anyone remember how much manga use to cost? Now it's a bargain compaired to that. The only thing that makes me mad is that in other countries it's so much cheaper. Oh well, we get what we pay for.

And it's really not too expensive. It's really only a couple dollars more than most American made novels. And then I have novels that are translated from another language that cost as much or more than manga. It's not just our fandom.

I don't find it that expensive. Maybe it's because I'm just used to it. As for the downloading thing... I think it's a good way for people to see if they like the series rather than waisting 10 bucks on something they don't like. That's what I do.

I HATE those kinds of people!
They bring shame to our fandom by trying to justify STEALING!
But I personally don't think 10-15$ is that much. I used to think it was a lot, but that was before I got a good job to pay for mine.
But even with 10$ every two weeks I STILL bought my manga!
In fact, I have never read a single scan in my whole life... (Okay maybe I read one chapter of Naruto a couple of years ago on the internet...but that was because my brother downloaded it and we wanted to see if it was good or not.)

Those people do tend to get on my nerves too, and I tend to think they don't realize just how much work goes into publishing each manga. Hell, I really don't care if people down load it, so long as they make an effort to get the book sometime in the future. Digital copies can disappear. A physical copy, the wost that could happen, well a lot of things could happen. But, there easy to take care of. Lazy a** people.
Oh, whats even worse are the people who complain that it take too long for manga to come out. A little patience can go a long way. I have to wait an ENTIRE YEAR before I can get any manga I want. So stop complaining how two to three month of waiting is killing you.

I don't think manga is to expensive. If it was any cheaper the companies would be selling at cost. I remember when I bought Negima vol.1 it cost me 18 dollars canadian. The other day I bought Deathnote vol.11 and it was only 10.50. It is less expensive now though which is great. I don't have a job right now but im getting one for the summer. So that means more money so I can get get the rest of my favorite series!

I used to think it was expensive too, but now after buying so much, it's not really a big deal for me anymore. I'm sort of used to it. Though I srsly wish I could read a little more Japanese. The cheapest manga in japan that you could find is about 270 yen. Which is worth 2.35 in US dollars. *Sigh* How I wish I were born Japanese. D:

Manga isn't expensive. O_O It's cheaper than any book.
But yeah, those people annoy me too. Especially when they give advice in threads on the best way to read manga without paying. scream Everytime I see someone reading a manga in a store I tell them off. It's dreadfully common. crying

My dad and the manager have been friends for years so he lets me use his discount.
