"One-oh-eight-oh-nine Old Gambino Drive," Russell said to the items resting in his lap. He was sitting outside the Past Legacies Corp. building, in fact he had been for quite a while now, but he was no more enlightened at this point than he had been a couple of hours ago. With him were his children, or rather his inanimate objects that would someday become children.
It was all rather hard to believe and most of the time he chose not to, but in the past week the scratched record left in his care had begun... talking to him. Since he had no way of finding the underwater office building where the record had come from, he chose instead to sit outside the bank. After all, these places that handed out everyday items possessed by kids were all the same, right?
Russell smacked his lips. It was warm out and he was thirsty. He stood up, clutching his broom, axe and record to his chest, and looked around for somewhere to get a drink.

"Shhh, Merric, shhhhh" Flame heticly tried to calm the baby down. His insentint crying is what finally drove her out of the house and away from Victor. She knew the french man was getting sick of hearing Merric wail, truthfully so was Flame but not even his favorite toy, the gold coin she used to get him to emerge would calm him. So she just tried in vain to calm him down herself. He neded a distraction, something to make him forget what ever it was that was making him cry. She wished she could know, if she knew then she could try to fix it. But he wasn't hungry, he had a fresh diaper on, he just woke up from a nap...
"Merric, please calm down" she begged him, hugging the baby close as she walked down the street, her feet unconciously taking her to the PLC. She hadn't gone there since she recived Merric, she remembered being told that she would be called there after he was a baby but she never fo the message, and since her last visit had been less then pleasnt she was more then happy to avoid the place"

Off to his right, Russell heard a baby crying. He had already moved to intercept the woman and her pissed-off spawn before realizing that there was probably nothing he could do to help her.
"Hey, uh, sorry to bother you," he began. "Do you know anywhere around here where I could get something to drink?" They probably had water in the bank, but he really didn't want to go back in there, seeing as how they were so much help last time.
He followed his question with a quick application of his palm to his forehead. The record was singing again, and he got the distinct impression it was curious about the baby and his mother.

Flame looked up as suddenly someone decided now would be the perfect time to ask her questions. She felt frazzeled and her eyes landed on the man in front of her. Drink? Oh god now he wanted her to think!? Would his outragious demands never stop?
"No...not right now" she said hoestly, shifting Merric slightly, trying despertly to get a few moments of silence. Just a little peace and quiet so she didn't start crying too. God she felt like such a horrible mother right now. Couldn't even stop her own son's tears.
Merric's gums throbed, they hurt so bad and the paiwouldn't stop, not to mention he hadn't had a new toy in two whole days. It was disgusting. Only that old coin that Mama wouldn't let him chew, so he screamed louder as Ma stoped. How dare she stop moving!? Did he say stop?
Merric peaked open his one good eye, glaring up at his mother then looking over to see what caused them to stop. He still screamed but it was slightly quieter as he saw the man before him. It was a different man then from the man at the house. The man that Ma tried to ignore, the one that gave him the shinny orange thing
Then his eye fell upon the axe. The very...shinny axe. Suddenly the crying stopped and the pirate king reached forward, "Mine!" he demanded, trying to reach the dull but still very dangerous weapon.

Russell was about to apologize and let the woman continue on her way, when the baby stopped crying long enough to demand personal time with Russell's axe. Surely that wasn't a good idea. The tiny blade might not have been particularly sharp, but the three tines that made up the key portion had drawn his blood more than once.
"Um... actually," he began, "this is mine." He smiled at the baby. "But I guess you can see it if I hold this part." Russell held the key out toward Merric, keeping his fingers closed over the pokey end.

"No!" Merric screamed, "Mine!" he demanded, pudgy hands reaching out and grabin the axe before tuging on it hard, trying to bring the axe to him. No matter how much Flame displined him he still cried out for what was 'his' when ever he wanted. It always embaressed his Ma but Merric didn't care. He wanted the shinny axe.
"No Merric" Flame said with a sigh, but at least he wasn't crying. She reached down and removed Merric's fingers from the shinny if dull metal. "that isn't yours that belongs to the nice man" she explained, then glanced over to the 'nice man'. "If you give him an inch he'll take a mile" the fairy neko warned. "Hell, he takes a mile if you give him squat"
"Hell" Merric repeated. He had the unquic ablity to pick out the swear word anyone said repeat it to his pleasure. "Hell!" he called out again and giggled with an iniante sense that he wasn't suppose to say the word but still reveled in the fact that it rolled so easily down his tounge.
Flame sighed and rubbed her temple. "No Merric" she said werily. "You are n't suppose to say Hell" she lectured, well at least the bad word distracted him from the axe. Flame looked up, eyes pleading that he'd hide the axe now while he had the chance.

Russell, understanding that at this point it was probably best to quit while he was ahead, quickly slipped the small axe into his pocket. He didn't have a problem with letting the kid see it, but he was going to want it back at the end of the day, and he didn't think this particular baby ever gave up what was 'his.'
"He must be fun to have around the house." Russell smirked at the baby's immediate grasp of naughty words. "I'm Russell, and these are my kids, I guess," he said, indicating the scratched record and broom he still held. Of all the things he never thought he would say...

Flame nodded, "Barels" she said, sounding very tired. She shifted Merric in her arms and pressed some fingers against her head before she realized the man in front of her was still talking. "Hmmm? Oh" she looked down and titled her head at the sight of the broom and then looked up at the building they were in front of.
"Did you...get that broom here?" she asked, her hand reaching down to finger the egg craddeled in her pocket. Dispite the fact that Merric largely ignored the egg he demanded that she take it everywhere. It was something that Flame saw no reason to fight, not when there was so many other things Flame was trying to deal with.
"Hell!" Merric called out again and then was hit lightly, with a sharp, "no!" after it. His face screwed up as he suddenly started to cry again, his mother only sighed though. he deserved the hit, though this whole thing was getting on his nerves. He was tired of crying. He wanted to do something.

Russell looked at the baby in Flame's arms with a sense of dread. That Prosper Reed character had told him all about his new little bundle of joy, but if this kid was what he had to look forward to... He wondered if anyone would notice if he set a few things on fire in the back of his apartment complex tonight.
"Yeah, I did," he said finally. "They told me it was going to be a baby someday. Did Merric come from here too?"

Flame noded as she rocked Merric back and forth, she'd let him cry for a bit longer and then bring out his coin. She just wanted him to forget why he was crying. Then the coin would normally calm him down, and she shined it last night so it was shinny again, and since Flame was starting to wonder if maybe Meric was teething she was keepoing it cool.
"Yes" Flame said, over the crying, "He's Blackbeard, or from Blackbeard's sword...I think" the hassled cat pressed back some hair. "It's a little confusing. I'm basing this off of a story my adoptive grandfather told me and he was a little cocuko but whatever" Flame shrugged, "I always trusted him before."
There! Flame brought out the coin, pressing the cold metal into the boy's hands and slowly the crying started to fade away.
Merric felt the cold in his hand, something hard and chilly. He alowed one eye to open in midtantrum and let out a squeal of glee! It was his treasure! He quickly stoped crying and brought the coin to his mouth, knawing on the thing Flame cleaned daily because he was always chewing it. The bitter cold felt intresting against his gums, soon numbing it and making that pain go away. Soon Merric was not only calm, he was asleep.

Russell watched as Merric chewed the coin, waiting until he was asleep before continuing the conversation. "What's in that thing?" he whispered, clearly not understanding the concept behind teething at all.
Suddenly, as so many things were these days, the voice in Russell's head started its singsong whisper again. He squeezed his eyes shut for a second before saying, "Blackbeard? Really?" There had been a mention of the Sorcerer's Apprentice right before he had chosen to ignore what those stupid bank people were saying to him, but he didn't know what this fantasy stuff could have to do with a flesh-and-blood baby. But then again, there was a record talking in his head, so who was he to judge?

"Oh nothing" Flame smiled down at her cute baby, rocking him slightly. "He was just tired, I think he's starting to teeth, so I just froze his favorite item, this gold coin so he can put it into his mouth and numb his gums. I'll need to get something for him, and then he'll be calmer" she asured him lovingly. She loved her son, and having a child again, even if he did wear her out at times.
"Mmmhmm, I think Blackbeard, at least it makes sense. Merric came from a rusted old cutlass. I'm surpised I got it. I mean I'm not even really blood related to the man who put it in but no one else in my adoptive family wants a child so I'm happy to take him. "Do you know what your broom is related too?" Flame asked intrested, not wanting to contrate the conversation around her.

"Oh." Teeth. He had forgotten. Russell supposed he had better stock up on some baby things before this thing manifested.
"The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I'm not really sure who left this for me, or why it didn't go to my sister, actually. She's older." He really should look into that.
"Am I keeping you from something?" he asked. His head was beginning to hurt and he didn't want to start talking to himself like a crazy person in front of this perfectly nice cat-woman-person. Russell pressed the record to his stomach, but since it couldn't really be smothered, it continued singing.

"Maybe this one wanted you" Flame told him softly. She rocked Merric and smiled at him. She was sure Merric wanted her. better then anyone in her adoptive family. She was so glad that she had this boy. Maybe her life was overly stressful, maybe sometimes she felt ready to burst, maybe sometiems she begged for a hint of relaxtion but it was worth it. She was a mom.
"Sorcers's apprentice? How intresting" Flame told him honestly, and gave him a smile, "Oh no, don't worry, but if you would like to go don't feel obliged to stay here. I was just taking a walk in hopes of calming down Merric, and look it worked"

Hmm. He nodded at that, thinking it over. The last time he had seen his sister had been a couple of years ago, and she was not the type to take care of a kid. Neither was he, but at least he wasn't a flake who couldn't hold a job. "You're probably right." It would mean he would have to try his best at raising this kid, but he had never really planned on doing anything else.
Russell smiled at the sleeping infant. "I'll have to remember to try taking a walk if mine cries a lot," he said.
He pressed his fingers to his forehead as the tinny voice got to the chorus again. "I'm sorry. I'm really glad I met you and Merric, but I've got to get home. Take some aspirin or a nap or something. Do you have a phone?" It was a slightly odd question, but Russell kind of wanted to be able to get in touch with Flame again once his own strange Legacy had arrived. "A phone number, actually."
