Why is it that drosselmeyer told tutu./ahiru that the only way to get the necklace off was to DROWN in the lake. And so she floats down to the bottom but when Fakir comes down to get her, he realizes that the water is breathable. How was she supposed to DROWN if the water was breathable?

He meant it like drowning in dispair... not literally drowning ^^;. That's what the whole "Lake of Dispair" pun is about.

And because Drosselmeyer is so intent on having a tragic story, he would tell any character anything to get a good twist going on.

Don't forget, Fakir stabbed his hand with the dagger before he continued writting what Drosselmeyer spoke. If Fakir had finished, something bad would've surely happend to Ahiru.

I think Drosselmeyer didn't intend to have Ahiru die, he just knew if he put her in danger, and she still had the last piece, that something intresing would happen, and it did...

He might have done it because he knew that this might be his last story, and that he didn't want his power over it to end, so he might have figured that if he killed Ahiru, then the story would get stuck, making it last longer.

Ryoko: thanks! That clears a lot up... sweatdrop
My reaction to Drosselmyer telling Ahiru that: When she actually went to the lake of despair, I was like "Don't you dare!" ...
Yeah...
