sword! any body can pick up a gun and pull the trigger but it takes true skill to weild a sword (or dumb luck)

Let me creat a literary divice called 'illustration'.
You are in an office. A man enters in from the elevator and your floor is full of cubicals. You work on the seventh floor, so you can't jump. He pulls out a gun and shoots wildly, hopeing to hit someone. Fear is futile, as he is most likely a horrible shot.
Same senario but he is a good shot. He kills about fourty people and runs out of ammo. He is now weapon less.
Same senario, but he has two one-handed swords. He can slice and dice, but over all he has no brute strength to smash walls.
Same senario, but he as an axe, or a two-handed claymore or flamberge, or a mace. He can smash, kill, and move on. If people stand in his way, they are going down. Police work? Hide so the cant see you. They cant shoot what they cant see, so you suprise and cleave a few before they others can shoot, and if they do, most suck anyway.
That is my opinion. take it as you will.

I'd prefer a sword over a gun. A gun is pretty useless if someone is too close or too far away (Or you're just a bad shot). - Unless it's a pistol or something.
A sword, even a foil is useful if someone is too close (That's what bell-guards are for)

We yes we do have superpowers. But if a guy has a handgun and it was a one on one against a sabre thats sharp then the handgun would win. No fencer could ever be fast enough to dodge bullets or block them. Now if it was a group of fencers (say the size of the Fencing Club I'm apart of and the people that come every Tues) then the swords would win. Most would be injured a few killed but with the fencers outnumbering the one gunner we win.

Cool movie. Japanese swords are really almost indestructalble! About which is better, I guess it just has to do with the skill level on both parts. The gun does have the advantage of a much longer range though.

This is true. But you have a target range of about 6x3 feet, and your weapon is like... 9mm....so yea...

Okay you are nuts if you think that your going to win a gun fight with a sword. There was this Indiana Jones movie where the guy swings this sword around really pro-like, he gets shot on the spot. A weapon made at the beginning of time can't compare with something made 2500 years later.  Heres a hint, get a clue! Who do you think is going to win? I would say that is pretty close, within lunging distance. In the end it doesn't matter if just anyone can shoot someone and it takes skill to use a sword, I'm walking away alive. With all due respect I am a sabre fencer and I know just about all there is to know in sabre. I just know where to draw the line.
The poll has it listed as singular, meaning 1 gun and 1 sword. Not a group of people or anything.
